Congress as a whole is not very leftist but the far left candidates are obviously more left than is practical. Neither the Democrats or the Republicans have a consistent platform (freedom or government control b/w self/finances/economy/etc?). When ever one candidate is considered ultra-liberal or ultra-conservative that should make anyone cringe.
The reason listening to Wright is bad is because he is a racist and divisive. This shows a lack of judgment at best, and possible a lack of character.

Hagee is not good, neither is Liddy. However, I am looking for the best person for the job. Point being, Barack Obama has consistently surrounded himself with racist or criminal people. They have been in his inner circle and have advised him on how to live his life and influenced his policy.
The best Obama's camp can come up with on McCain is someone who gave an endorsement. Ok, do you see the humor in that?

I agree that Obama has failed in distancing himself from people who have given their support from him who could easily be deemed questionable characters. To call them advisers, with the exception of the now infamous reverend, who he has rather belatedly distanced himself from, I believe is incorrect. He has only loose associations with many other people you named.

Obama opposed the war when he was a STATE SENATOR (never voted against it) because his constituency was overwhelmingly BLACK and it made sense to play to them as such. This is how he is a politician. While Obama had to choose between drinking, smoking dope, or going to class, McCain was getting yelled at, studying, or being inspected at formation.
