is it a good thing to buy this now or is it worth waiting for the dual core atom and the nvidia ion platform?? and also does it come with an ssd??? optional or not... cheers and thanks
thankyou and also will it help increase performance if i add the 2 gig of ram and an ocz solid core 60 gb ssd??
is this actually worth it or should i good to wait for the ion and dual core atom ....also is the white one a matte white finish or is it glossy as i am confused wheather to get the white or the black ..ill get the white if it does not get dirty very quickly and the black otherwise as all the rest look crappy and cheezily cheap.......help appreciated ....cheers
Most Netbooks can only use 2 or 2.5gb of ram maximum. Netbooks have 512mb of fixed speed ram built into the motherboard, and have a single SO-DIMM slot available for upgrade; purchasing a 2gb SO-DIMM will increase performance considerably, however the speed of the ram is equally important: This netbook and most others use DDR2 Memory modules with supported speeds of up to 800mhz, i suggest purchasing a single 2gb 800mhz SO-DIMM. Color question: normally black is favored (white turns to yellow!).
Also remember Windows XP home is a 32-bit operating system, and 32-bit OSes can only utilize 2.5gb of physical memory, no matter what platform or hardware specification. People often mediate this by increasing virtual memory paging files, which you can do by going to start -> control panel -> system -> advanced: then under performance: Settings, then advanced: then it will show your virtual memory paging file, increase this number to no higher than 4000mb, any higher degrades performance.
Yes the lenovo s10 is better than the acer aspire one: Because of the layout of the motherboard: the acer aspire one, has its ram SO-DIMM slot facing the keypad, so to add ram, you have to remove the back panel, the motherboard, and then the keypad, which makes it more susceptible to permanent malfunction. Other than this design flaw, all netbooks are generally the same and incompass consumer market standards (i.e. wifi card, bluetooth support, included software budles, memory card readers).
The palm rest has some give. The speakers are VERY weak & gets blocked easily. The keyboard right shift key position is bad but the buttons feel better than even my full sized laptop. The touchpad is AWSOME, I prefer it over even bigger ones because it doesn't stop at the edge, the cursor keeps moving & even scrolls when you're out of the screen, sort of like a scroll wheel. I'm glad I bought this after all the shopping around, I love it...but the vid still seems biased.
I was looking to buy this, and I was wondering if the video card and GHz are good enough for some games. I don't want to do hardcore games at maximum settings, but would Counterstrike Source, Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 work on this? If I turned the settings all the way down?
He makes a lot of advertising for Lenovo ;)... But he bade a huge mistake... He took the HD out while it was "running" you could break it although it was in stand-by mode... anyway the 6 cell ist standard in europe although the 3-cell is a cheaper version but it seems hard to get...
And I agree with everyone: why the Heck don't they just put the 6 cell in and leave the 3 cell completely out of the way? and instead giving the option of a 9 cell maybe ;)
what a worthless video. this info is all under the ideapad description on lenovo's website. why didn't you show us what you can actually do with it? we don't need to see how the bottom panels open.
We've got the 160GB with 1GB at a brick-and-mortar store (Circuit City), but not with the 6-cell battery - do you guys have the 6-cell battery across the pond?
Yes, we'll get the 6-cell (it's been confirmed), but the release date keeps getting pushed back *bites nails*. I suppose we'll get the S10e, because there's a Linux and a Winxp version to pre-order. Actually, two Linux versions, one with SSD and one with regular HDD (the SSD version seems to be the only one without Bluetooth).
7 hours with radio signal switched off, basically doing my study or typing in words. With wireless it drops 30 min. The screen brightness all affect a bit. But mostly, you need to enable the power saving option, that will lock the CPU speed lower. And using eeectl will allows you to force the speed to even lower. Doing all that gives me max 7h30, amazing for such a small device. so light too
same weight and size ? lol 1000h sucks, it has nothing good, its size is bigger than lenovo it weights much more, sucky build quality. The only thing better its 6 cell battery wich stick out, maybe lenovo later will include 6cell batteries too
does this run cscz, minecraft and spotify???

Correction 32bit OS's can Address up to 4GB, FYI and maybe if the BIOS supports Address extension it can make the last bit of the 4GB usable.

A] Linux is legally free
B] Linux is just as good or better for people who know how to use it.
C] I doubt OS X would work well with only 512MB of RAM, while Linux would do fine with it.
D] Most of the interesting things OS X is capable of wouldn't be great to use a netbook for.
