Create your own thumbnail in photoshop and drag it over to After Effects (or final cut) afterwards.

@Xanek Render uncompressed (so you don't loose any quality) to get one long clip, then drag the uncompressed clip in a new timeline. Now you can add one timecode fx in the entire clip.

@burakcekili Well, the time between 8:54 and 10:00 is about 10% - which again has a pretty small chance of success.

To be safe, make the thumbnail between is between 7:30 and 10:00 - 25%.

If you want to have it between 8:54 and 10:00 - just re-render the video with a different bitrate/quality each time. It should take you about 3-4 uploads before you get it right.

@runemakerm2 Just crop the video. Or in other words, in Sony Vegas, just drag your video in the timeline (above your main video), minimize it, and it should work just fine.

alright so tell me what im not understanding:

I have a 8.37 minute video.

So i divided the length of the video by the percentage of 75. As a result, 6.28 (rounded). That just so happened to be one of the thumbnails allowed in the video. But when i divided the length by the other percentages I recieved other times that were not selected thumbnails. Explain.

@GameTastiks If you multiply your total time with 0.75 you get a pretty long thumbnail of 25% of your video. This will work 80% of the time, but at a cost. Remember, the thumbnails are completely random, controlled by time and size. You want to keep your thumbnail as short as possible at the end.

If you multiply your video by 0.83 you get a shorter thumbnail, but the chance you hit the spot is now about 50-60%.

If you didn't hit, re-render the video with a different bitrate and try again ;)

I did it with my latest video and it's worked into the video as well. It's a comedy song, if you watch it you'll see how it's done. The thumbnail generator is not that advanced, it takes some patience to insert your interested frame (30 frames a second is good). But micro changes in the file create micro changes (no changes at times) in the thumbnail generator.

I did an experiment. x= duration of video in seconds

x * 0.266 = First picture

x * 0.55 = Second picture

x * 0.883 = Third picture

Lets say x=60. Go 15.96 seconds into your video and put your image ONE frame before 15.96 (or two, but keep it small). Ta dah ;)

Your experiment did only work once - in your particular video. Upload the same video again, and at least one of those locations have changed.
