"Regular users of the East Coast Main Line train service are set to be hit in the pocket, despite the company moving into State hands" - You talk about it as if they raised the fares as soon as 'East Coast' / 'Directly Operated Railways' ("DOR") got their hands on the franchise. As far as I understand the situation, it was 'National Express East Coast' / 'National Express Group' that set the fare increases at start of November and I presume 'East Coast' / DOR cannot scrap these fare increases.
