omg i cant belive u did wat u did in the end lol should have put that up for sale on ur website people would have brought that 4 sure lol still ur very inspiring
dude as an artist i shun ur work. its nice til u destroy it. then i totally hate u. not u as a person but u as an artist. portfolio pieces down the drain. im not gunna lie the pieces are TRULY original and very creative, but WTF are u doing destroying ur art? tisk tisk
dude...I love your style. this is one of the best art series I have ever seen. But how do you do this kind of art? do you first stick some kind of a white duck tape or something and take it off after you paint? or do you do something after you paint?
I'm fine when you make goodbye art out of pinecones, snow, cheeze whiz, leaves, oreos, pee and wine, but can't stand it when you do something like this to an actual painting! it actually makes me sad to see something like this go. Oh, and also, PLEASE label which videos are goodbye art so i don't have to worry about which pieces are going to be destroyed. i want to be prepared to see the destruction of something beforehand. Great video, though.
i think he does it to show that something doesn't need to exist to be art, as long as it was made, it will always exist in our minds. Or he could just be bored and wants to destroy something...
McGwire looked like Paul Bunyan when he was playing, and now he's shrunk down to Woody Allen size. I guess the real test of whether Barry is really clean or not will be to look at him in another six or seven years.
ke pelele destruyes todo lo ke haces pero lo grabas en video para ke lo veamos... eso para mi kieredecir ke n te importa el arte solo tu ego y ke te rekonozka la peña en el ''sturbax''... o komo sea
I don't understand why you would completely destroy some of your artworks.. I understand the concept, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who would love to own these particular pieces..
i agree to a certain extent. But you have to understand that his art is the footage. Completely different to anything, if he kept the art it would be just like an artist who video tapes how he does it, anyone can do that you know?
I actually saw some deeper meaning to this. Mcguire used steroids to achieve his records so all those records are referred to as black balls. I thought it was pretty cool how you did that in the video. Thanks Phil!
Thanks, i once again didn't get the background (i am German though, just not KNOWING most of the backgrounds of Phil's all-American art) and your comment somehow saved this piece of art for me.
Yet i get slightly bored of Phil's art, as it is always just the same old story: Either he puts together a picture using many small things or he uses some slow and meaningful, yet not tooo creative, way to paint a huge background in a color to then cut out or paint over his real picture.
its not the doing, its the concept... although i'm not saying that there isn't much to do either.. difference between an art intro class and an advanced class... students say.. "I could have done that"... but did you think of doing it?
The art was awesome, as is the skill needed to do it however the music was piss poor. Thank you for your work, but please choose music next time instead of noise. The music made it hard to watch the video.
I really like phil in the circle, but he just does the same thing everytime just with different materials. Your an artistic person phil, explore your OTHER artistic abilities.
Correction: How many other artists do you know that use materials for their art. And everyone has to use something for art silly. Whether its paint, cameras, baseballs, whatever. So to answer your question: Every artist that ever existed and will ever be.
Guys, it's called "Goodbye Art" for a reason. He's not going to keep his pieces after he makes them. Refer to his other videos where his works get burnt up, blown away, given away, etc.
i still don't understand why you destroy it. it kind of sad really. the stuff that melts or washes away or like the hendrix match thing i understand it's almost like performance art, but the stuff that can be permenant, I just can't see destroying it. But keep up the good work, I do love looking at your stuff. while it lasts that is haha
The art isn't just the picture...though that would be cool enough. The artist didn't burn the painting because he hated his talent or anything...the film is the sum total of his art project. The Artist burned the picture to show the man's career going up in smoke...All that hard work for not...or is it. The Player's still has the memories like we have this film.
yeah at first when i saw u were just throwing the balls to turn the sheet white it kinda seemed pointless until u notice the way the edges look because they're so unrefined which looks totally awesome that is cool....
... putting it in a barbeque... not so cool :( cant wait until goodbye art is over i want ur pieces to live! they're jsut so awesome :(
you don't have to explain yourself to him dude! All of your goodbye art is far beyond any expectations I've ever had of art someone slaps together to throw away. You are indeed a genius and get 1 zillion points from me! Although, I don't think it's like showbiz pizza where you can turn in those points for a prize.
I love your videos man, I've been watching since the Che one was posted. It's a phenomenal concept and I hope you keep updating us with whatever you come up with
I do too.. I think that's kinda selfish not wanting to share it with others that appreciate it. He is sooooo talented! I'm sure there are tons of buyers out there if he would just stop destroying them. Or at least rent out a building and keep them there as a gallery where we could all go see them.
I wonder if he created goodbye art because he had a bad art stealing incident and he just lets it live on eternally in video fashion where no one can steal what he can rightfully call his? Good work. Phil is the man.
Part of the beauty of destroying it is the fragile nature of everything. It was created to be destroyed, made to be enjoyed intensely for a short period of time and then erased like it was never there. go to the beach, spend a couple of hours making a sand sculpture at the high tide line and then watch it get washed away, it really is something to think about.
You're always so inventive not only in your execution but also destruction, I'm sad this only has 2 more months to run. Hope you'll continue to delight us with regular posts after that. Cheers, Lesley
I love the baseball concept. It must have taken you forever to throw enough baseballs at it to have enough paint cover. By the way... You should come to the midwest gathering on June 7th (6-7-8) at the mall of america since you are right there next to it.
