"Switching the gender"... y'know, it wasn't metal or anything, but I swear growing up that I understood this song to be sung by a man. He was addressing a woman and calling her "Angel" and asking her to call him "Angel of the Morning" or what.

Now, hearing these various versions, it appears there's no way to confuse any of the female versions with a male vocalist, so I'm stumped as to how I got that impression from this song on the Oldies station.
