I was at that race! That crash changed the rules allowing racers to race with a car they did not qualify in, and yes he did qualify for sundays eliminations. Also that night, a sportsman category racer was killed in a crash that was so bad, the concrete guard rails were to messed up to finish the pro qualifying session.
They should have kept that bridge crossing over the racetrack near the finish line; then, had Eddie ejected from this freak accident, he would have some cool place to land on so he could watch the rest of his "nuclear banana" come apart!!!
I think Sears Point Raceway is located on an old Indian burial ground or something; a few freak accidents have taken place there from the earlier days...That's why the name is changed to Infineon Raceway (which I think sounds kind of gayish)!!!
id say this crash was caused by a hair line crack in the frame from where his engine came out in another race, i found a hair line crack in one of the super charged woreors cars and when thay got home all the cars on the tour was checked and every one had cracks in the frame's, im not sure how thay do that im told there exrayed the frames, i found the crack after the accident there was rust on the cracked frame,
Sure does qualify as a win, as long as your car or any part of your car did not cross over the centreline into the competitor's lane. First or worst rule.

He did survive that crash, and has long since retired from drag racing and doing well in retirement. He has had alot worse crashes than that when he used to drag race boats and is lucky to be alive.
Eddie is fine no serious injuries. What happened was the rear tire blew which took out the wing. With the chassis now on the ground, no downforce from the wing, the tire gone and twisting the chassis, it folded up. Unfortunately this occurance has happened several times

Yes the tires are rubber, not sure what your point is on that one. A huge chuck of rubber doing 300 mph can do a lot of damage to the wing
