  • I hope his cymbals are tight enough...

  • The Amen Break was sampled heavily for drum n bass music. This could be sampled similarly I imagine. Good snare and tom fills. Funk influenced.

  • Sorry, not impressed.

  • He´s sucks

  • @Hampe3000 YOU SUCK AT EVERYTHING YOU OLD MAN! GINGER BAKER IS BEAST!

  • Equipment has gotten better and talent much thinner... They dont produce Ginger Bakers and that sort of commitment to an instrument anymore. Its all about a drum machine and a mr microphone now. Although my 16 year old does play his guitar daily so maybe theres hope.

  • @guitarplayer4real You're so right. I think Prince said it best. "The music business is missing something these days... MUSICIANS!"

  • Ginger's got the best sense fashion for a bohemian:) Class all the way through!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Schooled in jazz, mastered rock, won the respect of Fela Kuti. Best drummer ever. End of.

  • that bass drum is dead to a pulp.

  • LOL, If somebody did this today, they'd be laughed at. I'm so happy that drumming has progressed this much.

  • name of the song please .... great solo

  • @bryan0147 Do what you like by blind faith

  • 15 persons are brown hair.

  • Joint in his mouth, well played.

    love it XD

  • please i saw ginger many times no one came close to him i saw him vs billy cobham he sounded like 5 billy cobhams belive me glenn i loved the africa 70 as well bobby gass great spunds on guitar !!!!! check out bill bruford and neal smith as well !!!!

  • i used to play drums on pots and pans. it kinda sounded like that

  • yeah its do what u like solo, not Cream

  • Surprised!!! Cozy powell, dance with the devil not mentioned...to my eye "one of the finest"

  • Surprised!!! Cozy powell, dance of the devil not mentioned...to my eye "one of the finest"

  • i met this guy in a parking lot while i was playing street music with my friend, NO JOKE, i had no idea who he was until now lol

  • wow ginger baker thinks hes better than mitch mitchell according to a cream documentary, sooo not true

  • @Puregeniuscomedy mitchell could not maintain a beat very long and roedding had to carry him on most of the songs he was wilder than baker but baker was better

  • Where are the artists today who could rival those from the '60's?

  • happy birthday Ginger

  • @flyingdrifter Billy Cobham is good, but not really my style. Buddy Miles kinda rubbed me up the wrong way with Hendrix. And Ringo... No, just no. He was perfect for the Beatles - Some of the best music ever and all, but the other drummers we have mentioned push him futher down the list

  • Attention Drummers/musicians!!! Get the book "realistic rock" by Carmine Appice!! If you like 60's-70's rock drumming it's the Bible. It turned my hopeless brother into a real rock guy. He would work on it every day and half way through the book and after learning the first Zeppelin record beat for beat he would go back to the jams and sound exactly like Simon Kirk of Free and Bad Company...with bonham fills to boot. It could save rock drumming im serious. Amazon.com

  • Let me break it down for everyone...

    1) John Bonham

    2) Lots of Jazz drummers you have never even heard of

    3) Keith Moon

    4) Ginger Baker

    5) Possibly Mitch Mitchell. But then, who else is there?

  • @Rafterman123

I would put Aynsley Dunbar in there too.

My top five have always been: Peart, Baker, Bonham, Dunbar and Moon.

  • @FloraBama Yea I did forget Peart, damn!

  • best 2:12 of my life

  • I get pretty sick of people saying that Moon is an amazing drummer. He's not. Nothing he does is impressive and very little of what he does is musical

  • Jhon bonham THE KING

  • micheal shrieve is the best actually

  • This guy has NOTHING on Mitch Mitchell.

  • @TheRobnificent Dude Mitch Mitchell is over rated just like everyone in the experience. The best drummers are John Bonham and Buddy Rich.

  • @avaram10 Lol. John Bonham? Kids who play for 10 years can get chops like Bonham. Rich is a legend but Mitchell did things Fusion has never seen before. Listen to Manic Depression. Good luck trying to say That Jimi is Overated considering the world sees him as a god now.

  • @TheRobnificent I'm not tryin to put down the experience. they have good songs. and they are good musicians i just dont think they are the best. I consider chuck berry, hendrix, and van halen to be the guitar gods cause they rock forever. but musicians took waht hendrix did and made it better. like jimmy page. i think he is probably the greatest song writer in all of history. and one of the greatest lead guitarists. but the experince is good. its just my opinion that they arent the best.

  • @avaram10 What exactly makes Jimmy Page greatest songwriter? Guitarist, fine... but songwriter, I dunno, I mean, the majority of Zep's songs weren't even his.

  • @The4thGuy Dude listen to 10 Years Gone and the Rain Song. they are probably 2 of theo most beautiful songs on Earth.

  • @avaram10 I have, and I can say "The Rain Song" is my favorite Zep song.

  • @avaram10 what do you mean by musicians took what hendrix did and made it better? The field of sound engineering at that time was dominated by hunky noisy bassless recording and mixing hardware that sounds nothing like the mixes of 2011. Hendrix used his guitar without limitation, today, there's a lot of guitarists but they aren't capable of the forsight, skill, or personality of him.

  • @ramzevans Art is subjective, this is always a losing debate for both parties. I'm one of the biggest Hendrix fans on this planet and have picked over his playing for 3 decades now, and I agree with you largely but with some pretty valid exceptions. Joe Satriani for instance, in my own subjective opinion, is a better composer and better player technically, and was from the start. I wouldnt pick Vai even though I like him.

  • @ramzevans I am not talking about music now days cause most of it sucks. but bands like van halen and lots of hair bands took what hendrix did and refined it. quite frankly a lot of it sucks but almost all hard rock guitar originated from hendrix and page.

  • @TheRobnificent

Hes far better than mitch mitchell - however the drum solo here was edited it seems plus he was expectedly on Heroin here. listen to him in cream or even the cream reunion. Baker is an amazing drummer

  • @jbawn I agree. It's just that mitch is better.

  • @TheRobnificent

Naghh. Baker is one of the top 5 drummers in the world. Mitch Mitchell was not even the top 5 of the 60s. Hes a good drummer but nowhere near as technical as someone like Baker, or Bonham or Moon or even Steve Gadd

  • @jbawn I'm a huge Moon fan, but I've gotta tell you he is FAR from technical! He hit whatever drum he wanted, when he wanted, and it worked! THAT is why he's regarded as such an amazing drummer

  • Lol you obviously prefer speed over technicality and creativity. Keith Moon?

  • @jbawn Im sorry but i simply must disagree with you. Not only was Mitch Mitchell a technically superior drummer, being experienced in the ways of jazz and applying these techniques to rock and roll, but he was also an insanely creative force behind jimi hendrix. His drumming was melodic and followed jimi's guitar well instead of just carrying on routinely. Yes bonham and Moon were good and technical, but the drummers lacked a sense of expression. This is what sets Mitch Mitchell apart

  • Baker is better than this.

  • DO WHAT YOU LIKE!

  • drum hardwares back then sucked big time!

  • @Remorules23 YOU ARE STUPID, HIS DRUMS ARE THE BEST

  • That solo sucked. where the fuck were the rudiments, he was just banging he didn't;even know what he was doing. sounded like fuck'en Keith moon just bangers not good drummers.

  • @hdc9468 Where is your drum solo? And why aren't you listed as one of the most inspirational drummers of all time? :)

  • @hdc9468 lets see your badass video then smartass!

  • @hdc9468 Probably one of the most solid drummers of all time. The timing that this man has is out of this world.

  • @hdc9468

Rudiments! You mean those boring rules for soldiers in gray uniforms, stuff that you have to learn and then forget in order to be able to find your sound and play freely. Are you shure he didn't even know what he was doing? Do you know what he wanted to do? What he didn't want to do? What he should have done? Wow! You must be old, wise, educated and bored. Is your nane God? He(or She) is old, they say.

  • this is Blind Faith, not Cream..

  • @ERPPP

    It's a good one isn't it !!

In fairness, I only put that joke out there cos it's funny, I'm actually a Ginger fan!

  • If you want to hear a good double kick drummer check out Carl kennedy! I think he blows Ginger Baker away!

  • Comment removed

  • What song is this?

  • Ginger Baker is like black coffee. Shit without Cream.

  • so many people are watching but that drummer still has not enugh money for a new bassdrumhead 1:37

  • this is awful :|

  • what is the song they start playin after the solo

  • @ShOrtieMAC919

Do what you like by blind faith

the solo depends to the song

  • they aren't cream they are blind faith

  • joey jordison cleans shoes to ginger barker

  • This is DO WHAT YOU LIKE the drum solo in the studio version is the best i,ve ever heard. Click on my channel and see some brilliant Baker drumming

  • I saw this live and it was free!

  • There are a lot of stupid comments in this thread.

Some young drummers must spend all day on youtube watching vids of technique monsters noodling in drum clinics or breaking speed records & think that's what drumming is all about...

Ginger baker has only modest technique compared with some modern drummers - but has fantastic musical feel and great creativity.

Many Cream songs are recognisable even if you only hear the drum riffs.

Most modern metal drummers sound the same -fast & boring.

  • those are stiff as fuck cymbals!

  • i think every drummer like John Bonham, kieth Moon, and Ginger Baker, neil pert and Mitch Mitchell and many other drummers are very good and that they all have there own unique style and way of playing. that's my opinion I like theme all.

If anybody wants to add to my comment then feel free to do so.

  • @justjames14 i want to simply add BUDDY RICH :)

  • @justjames14 Ginger Baker changed how we all play drums more then anyone realizes but you 100% right , you named most of the old natural drummers even though Ginger wrote and played his solos as a song he's still a natural ~have seen them all ,saying one is better is not right , they are as good as you get and each contributed to today's drummers . I started with Underground Surf , '68 hanging in NYC saw from the Filmore stage door 10Ft away Ginger playing blew me away.

  • fuck yea!

  • i think ur all stupid. just shut up all you. some kind gentleman posted a link for the best russian women and its getting drowned out by your bickering. be nice.

  • what the first guy said is more than accurate I took drum lessons for 8 years...I loved ginger baker because I like rock...I had my drum teacher listen to it and he did with his drum sticks with ease what ginger did with base drum pedal and twice as clean...I still like GB but he cant hold a candle to buddy rich or especially joe morello...facts is facts

  • I just rewatched this vid. Sloppy Crap! Complete nonsense. Mind f-n Boggling anyone would call this great....

  • @dubberdo maybe you don't find this good, but you can't say it's crap cause obviously a lot of people enjoy it... and maybe you forgot already, but believe me you couldn't pull this off after one year of playing... and I'm pretty damn sure about that one

  • @c0d3x001 Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers, and you have no clue who I am and don't know what I could do the first year I played but if you watch tv in America you have heard my playing.

  • @dubberdo your a mean one, mr grinch.

  • @LouTheMetalhead If that is truly your conclusion your ignorance will continue to be.

  • @dubberdo Your a bad banana with a greasy black peeeeeel!

  • @LouTheMetalhead your judgments clearly are lacking both in myself and this video

  • @dubberdo Sometimes my judgment for how much toilet paper i need to wipe my ass lacks too... it sucks.

  • @dubberdo but honestly... you are entitled to your opinion and your allowed to not like Ginger.. but to say he is shit is incorrect. Your just another dummy on youtube who thinks hes better than everyone else because he can talk shit with a keyboard in front of him.

  • I can see why Alex Van Halen looked up to this guy.. He's awesome

  • Crap by todays standards.....

  • @dubberdo There would be no standars today fag if it werent for this...CRAP performance!!!!!This is where modern drumming got started....so please, dont go away mad, just go away.

  • Comment removed

  • @c4t2f0 Actually now that I think about it this is complete crap. History already had amazing drummers like Buddy Rich, Gene krupa, Louis Bellson. Baker has made a name but his playing is just plain crap. America - where CRAP is king!

  • @dubberdo aw u didnt go away and your mad :}Yeah AMERICA is crap...thats why EVERYONE is FLOCKING here ha.Grow up kid, this is about music and talented drummers.im not gonna argue with a computer screen.Good day to you.

  • @dubberdo I was thinking it was about music and talent when I clicked on the link. I was wrong.

  • @dubberdo Mate, if you think that this is crap, you need to learn to appreciate music more. Maybe it is because I am a drummer that I can tell actually how good it is. Maybe you are just being a troll.

  • @sampappers05 Ive been playing for over 30 years and could pull this of after the first year of playing. Im tired of crap being considered as quality. I will continue to troll.....

  • @dubberdo Well said, sir.

  • @dubberdo if you hate this why r u even looking at the vid? it doesnt make sense with u ppl if u hate dont frikin even watch the vid fag u dont have to make ppl feel bad by saying a stupid comment about u u probrally dont have a life get off this vid

  • ..and of course that's Ginger's brother operating the camera there, Zoomy Baker.

  • Just got my first drum kit so thought I'd check out a few drum solos to watch.... haha!! I was at this concert...........took rather a long time to get my kit!!

  • Well, lets put it in a positive light, Ginger influenced thousands of young aspiring musicians who never heard of or cared about Buddy Rich ET AL. His drumming was unique in his time ,no one came close to his stylistic approach, and his weaves of African rhythms into the rock genre was a first.

Never mind this pc was done in a 5/4 time signature which no rock drummer before or since ever heard of. I doubt Buddy Rich ever in all his two handed speed played in 5/4.

Yea he was high, so was I...

  • hello everyone its me!

  • @GINGERBAKEROFFICIAL ummm... If your the real Ginger Baker.... well... hello :D and seen that your living in SA ill stick you for a round of drinks and want to listen to music

  • I just can't understand why people think this guy is great...

  • @chicabobica i dont understand why people think neil peart, john bonham, or buddy rich is great...

  • @ultramagnus58 I guess I can get on board with that, even though I definitely think they're greater than this guy.

  • @chicabobica i wouldnt say that....

  • @chicabobica Theres 2 very important aspects that your missing about Ginger Baker.... 1) If you have lived in that era you would know about what music was around and understand hoe much GB has given to music... And 2) You'll see proof to another reason within 2 secs of this video.... PASSION

  • he'd play this alot better without drugs.

  • Comment removed

  • One if the best

  • What do ginger baker and black coffee have in common?

    They both suck without cream

  • @manrayer88 I disagree. I think Blind Faith was just as good as Cream.

  • ginger baker rocks

  • solo with joint in mouth.. 0:53 hahahaha wow

  • This solo on the album is one of my favorites. It's nice to see a video of Ginger, although this was not nearly as good of a rendition.

  • rohirim guy

  • he´s an underrated drummer!!!!

  • awesome baked or not. and considering how high ginger probably was wen he did this he deserves extra merrit

  • I love hippies man they are so loving and cool!

  • @DjKelavey Listen, Cream aren't fucking hippies.

  • @DeeperDiamond Listen, this isn't fucking Cream, it's Blind Faith.

  • @Gitars5 how true that is. In the day, a double bass drum set with that kind of independence wasn't seen much, today, it is basic. His creativity and the use at the time is what set him apart from other drummers and gave him so much fame.

  • @DeeperDiamond This isnt Cream brainiac

  • this isn't cream

    this is blind faith

  • @DeeperDiamond bullshit! they all fucked plenty of hippies! lol

  • @TheMightyZooblin That doesn't exactly make THEM hippies though...

  • @The4thGuy I was twisting your comment around, like if you were using "fucking" as a verb rather than an adjective.

  • @TheMightyZooblin HAHA I just realized that, even though it wasn't my comment, but whatever...

  • @The4thGuy oh yeah. lol

  • was that steve winwood???? He played with baker?

  • He would be the 2nd Best Drummer after Keith Moon!

  • Keep the fucking camera still! Moron. And the whole thing is not that great.

  • @grhsvo Calm down, you fucking scumbag.

  • One of THE most overrated drummers in rock history!

  • @justentime77 you do not know anything about rock and roll

  • @thailanddog I know lots about not only rock and roll, but drums, drummers and drumming as well.

  • @justentime77 OK, I thought the drum solo on the studio version of the Blind Faith album was really good, and the video of Ginger playing Toady with the Airforce was really good. Evidently you know of better, so you'll have to help me out here.

  • @JimGawthrop It's all subjective Ace.

  • @justentime77 I agree...he's high on all sorts, and it really shows...that solo would sound so much more inventive if he sobered up.

  • @smithhedgehog True

  • too bad these times are gone, this era of rock n roll was groundbreaking, so was baker, his double bass was so awesome, still is amazing when i think that tommy aldridge was doing his same solo in 73 with black oak arkansas, what a generation, was a special moment in rock history

  • SO ONE OF THE BEST FROM THE LATE 60'S IS STILL A LIVE WHICH WOULD BE OF COURSE THE ONE AND ONLY DON BREWER.

  • Noel Redding at 1:17?

  • @beanboyo on bass Mr Ric Grech RIP

  • Hyde Parks still the shit

  • the 60's and 70's were the best years to be a drummer. There's no more freedom of expression like these guys had. Nobody has the patience anymore. Ginger is the man and I think a huge part of the decline in overall talent we see in musicians today is the lack of patience the audience has for what they're listening to.

Trust me, I've tried to do drum solos on stage and most people don't care.

  • @Schpinki I think the problem also has alot to do with the industry and the record companies not having patience or letting musicians be musicians... Like, imagine if you were a band today and tried putting a song like Moby Dick on your album. No record company would even let you do that because it would be "radio friendly" or whatever

  • @HookInMouth999 I couldn't agree more, but lets call it like it is, the recording industry is a leech on musicians and they want to produce ANYTHING that will make money, or will garner mass appeal. If stuff like Moby Dick was appreciated by the masses and not just an enlightened few I'm sure there'd be much more similar work.

  • warcraft 2.... The Dark Saga for Sega Saturn.... Was introduced.

  • & double bass was introduced in music?

  • & of course ian paice

  • Yes; Moon was as good as any of them I've ever seen.

Such a pity about life's departure

  • This is how double bass should be played. Of course there are great double bassers today, but honestly...i'm really getting tired of R,L, RF,LF.

  • Anyone? The song at the end of the solo?

  • @Z1cky its do what you like, the recording is 15 mins long with pass around solos. great stuff

  • Comment removed

  • What is the song starting at the end of the solo sounds great.

  • Check out Crossroads by Paul Reid

  • @TOMY1234321

The song is "Do What You Like" by Blind Faith

  • Comment removed

  • Just imagine what it would have been like to be there

  • Double bass in 1969!?!?

    LORDY LORD

  • @metalmusicmike Louie Bellson use double bass in the '50, search the video

  • @pachopavan Exactly

    What a man

  • what's the song?
