Ive seen this before. My uncle owned a snake, and had placed a mouse into the cage. I guess the snake wasnt hungry, and ended up forming a bond with the mouse with time. The mouse would also slip in the round of the coil (when the snake coils to sleep) and the snake didnt mind it at all. Some time went by, and the snake refused to eat him, my uncle had to put a different mouse in there to feed the snake.

the snake is used to eating frozen meat. So when they tried feeding it live prey, it probably prefers the meat chilled. So now they have to feed the hamster too. I think this is really endearing, snakes can get lonely too.

If I've read the article correctly, then the hamster was supposed to be food for teh snake at a zoo. But, the snake became friends with the hamster and have been living together ever since.
