That 800 is definately hotrodded. Lot more gain than my stock 800. I wonder what was actually done. I play blues and hard rock (think ZZ Top and ACDC) and the stock does just fine. But there are times when I could use some more headroom and gain. I hate modding a vintage amp that will be worth some $ someday . Does anyone got a recommendation? A JCM800 sound with more gain is what I seek.

@smacman68 Well, if he bought a used 800 that was built in the Eighties then it's very likely that the amp was hot-rodded for more gain, etc. For what you want, maybe try looking at a Bogner ecstasy, a Boogie Mark V, or even an Orange Thunderverb.

@smacman68 just boost that sucker with a ts808 or ts7, ts9, any overdrive will basically do. Just set the drive to 0, tone at middle (or whatever you like) and use the Volume of the overdrive to adjust the overal gain. The jcm800 can do thrash and other heavy stuff this way.

@drofnoise555 I'm annoyed by some douche bag who thinks that musical equipment can only be used in one way and who doesn't know his history well enough to know that the JCM 800 was never designed specifically as a HEAVY METAL amp, but was simply adopted by many metal players because it suited their needs.
