They went through with the ceremony, but Paul proved that the marriage was invalid because Meg was still legally married to him.

No. Just friends. Dusty wanted custody of Johnny and Meg agreed to marry him to show that he could provide a stable home. Paul proved the marriage invalid and custody of Johnny went to Craig.
