Good point. I guess I didn't realize that a place had to be a paradise in order for it to be considered an independent nation. I was unaware that "paradise" was a prerequisite for basic fundamental liberties and freedoms. Thanks for enlightening us all.

Most countries have a less-than-perfect governmental history. Most countries have required aid from other countries. Most countries would not consider that grounds for their independence to be taken away and for them to be persecuted and oppressed. And I'd be willing to bet a lot of people other than "wanky left liberals" agree with basic human rights.
I do think that overall, the majority of the Tibetan population has benefitted from Chinese rule. I'm wary of the 'Free Tibet' movement because it centres around the Dalai Lama and the previous theocracy.

There are many reasons why people, not just tibetans, dont want the olympics to happen in China, and it's not because people hate the chinese citizens. The Chinese are holding these olympics in an attempt to cover up their malevolent history of genocide and murder in various countries, not only Tibet.
