  • hANDS UP WHo is trIPPING noww

  • i dont like the early dead.. in my opinion the best grateful dead era was the '79-'80 year.. '85 and '89-'90

  • i think were all a little gay for garcia

  • Hey.... hey.... it looks like people are trying to start stuff and fight on a Grateful Dead video.... and that's not cool.... because the Dead should bring us together, not break us apart.

  • What video is this from? Is there more?

  • damn the girl is giggin super tough, deadhead born in 89 and will bump em til the day i die. still visit olimpali, kickback smoke some jays and listen to a concert, or 4. time cant test music like this, its what god probly has on his playlist to chill him out on days folks get extra stupid and do somethin like start a war...

  • These guys are so stoned it's amazing they can even hit their cues.

  • Dylanesque with some Jeff Airplane tossed in

  • whats wrong with people these days? 20 dislikes? they are straight up flowin right here how can you disagree?

  • A-mazing!

  • @sfy2004 Come on man that's called noodling, I'm 16 and I know that. Not everything having to do with the Dead is related to drugs.

    May the Dead rock on!

  • interesting dance shes doing. what do you think, LSD, Peyote, or Mushrooms?

though to be honest, it could be all 3.

  • CASEY JONES! :D

  • This is fucking GRATE.

  • I love you JERRY! But I want to gently wrap that dancing lady in a silk scarf and put her in a guitar case until its over. Its a chicken impersonation.

  • @glitteringsky

Ha ha, yes she's doing a chicken dance!

  • @Darrylizer1 Oh thank you so much I am not alone...I love the Dead so much but she scares me. :P

  • the dancer is just mind blowing!!

  • if i were at this show and the dead played this, i would freak out.

  • my favorite bands. Beatles Pink Floyd Grateful Dead Stones Led Zeppelin Gorillaz Electric Light Orchestra Steve Miller Band Is that diverse?
  • @AfroGangsta10 Very

  • @AfroGangsta10 Wow dude if you would just add Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult and radiohead that would be the exact same as my list of favorite bands

  • @Kevin8942 haha nice! I like Deep Purple and Jethro Tull, but not enough to be put on my list. Never heard of BOC..?

  • @AfroGangsta10 All great except the Beatles. Zero diversity.

  • @penningtonant What?! Are you kidding me? Rock, pop, psychedelic, folk, rock and roll, hard rock, balads, indian. That's sounds pretty diverse to me, considering some bands that I mentioned like Grateful Dead stuck to 1 type of music.

With Beatles, I have never heard one song that sounded the same as the one before. That's not the same feeling when I hear the Gorillaz.

  • @AfroGangsta10 So you are left with rock, psychedelic and folk because they, by no means, played hard rock. Their music is so boring and uninteresting. They stick to their basic major/minor keys and follow them note for note, practically making their next note or bar completely anticipated. And they play it the same way, show after show. And sure, the Dead weren't the most diverse outfit of all time, though they sort of were variety inclined. Jazz, Blues, Country, Folk, the broad 'Rock' genre,

  • @penningtonant UH when a band uses a sitar, they are playing Indian type music. It is what it is. That goes for ballads. Hear, let me put this into what your saying. The Dead doesn't play Jazz or Blues, why? Because they only have a sax in a few songs.. No they do, they did play that. That goes for the Beatles.

When you say the Beatles are "boring". It's personal preference. Because it's a known fact, that they played to satisfy EVERY person. They did play Ballads, and they did play Jazz

  • @AfroGangsta10 They are playing an Indian typed SONG. Yes, a song is music, but when categorizing the so-called 'many Beatles music genres', it would not be correct to list Indian, because two or three songs with sitar doesn't mean they played Native Indian music. And saxophone, clarinet, etc. are not mandatory for jazz, like sitar is not for Indian; the scales and modes and notes and playing style make the genre. I could be in a jazz-only outfit with a mandolin if I pleased

  • @AfroGangsta10 as long as I played in some Mixolydian or whole-tone modes and scales. And the Dead did play Jazz and are easily capable of being categorized as so, seeing as to their jazzy improvisations, scales, modes, chords, etc. Their 1973 "Wake of the Flood"; all Jazz with some classical. Their 1974 "Mars Hotel" featured some jazz, their '75 "Blues For Allah" was entirely jazz centered, and their '77 "Terrapin Station" was also centered in Jazz as well.

  • @AfroGangsta10 Yes, any band plays ballads, but ballads are not a genre you simpleton. It is a type of song. Ballads are found in funk, rock, blues, jazz, metal, folk, bluegrass, country, etc.

  • @penningtonant I see that you waste the majority of your time badgering and criticizing bands that you just don't like. It' called personal preference. You just can't grasp the fact that Beatles will forever be in the top 5 bands in history that you continue to just jump down anyone's throat that tries to defend them.

I'm pretty sure most of the world agree with me, Beatles will always be the most successful(for a reason faggot if your going to go there) and influential band. Goodbye

  • @AfroGangsta10 I will proceed down people's throats if they have false, incorrect, or ignorant 'data' to back up their defense.

Success is a hard term to define. It depends on what you call success. In music, is having the most money, the most fans, the most sales success? I don't think so. If a band that love playing music has ONE fan that loves their music, they are successful. So maybe, statistically and monetarily the Beatles are. So what? The Grateful Dead earned their

  • @penningtonant I realized that your a Grateful Dead fanatic. I don't respect you because you subjective it's mind bottling. There's no point with arguing with people like you. Your too stubborn to even give in a little bit to some common sense.

  • @AfroGangsta10 bread too. They grossed some $300 million on tour in the 90s alone. But again, money isn't necessarily success. Most influential? They may be very influential indeed but that cannot even be tested. There are so many variables that factor into influence; music, philosophy, life style, etc. There is no way to test it so there goes another 'reason' of yours. Also...always? Do you have a crystal ball that opens the future to your deciphering?

  • Respond to this video... and also Bluegrass, and 'Psychedelic'. Also...wait a minute....they quite possibly WERE and still are the most diverse group of all time. They jammed continuously and practically endlessly. Each show was different, playing different songs each night, in a different order, way, sound, style, key, time signature, who knows. Dark Star for example was played hundreds of times. Though its studio version was about three minutes, live, it spanned anywhere from 6-40

  • @penningtonant Pop= popular. That is one genre you listed counted out since it solely categorizes popularity and not genre. Rock and roll and rock are one genre so there goes another one. Ballads (w/ two 'L's) are a type of song and can be found in any genre. And just because they occasionally used a sitar does not mean they played Indian Native or World music by any means. For example, a jazz outfit might feature a sax player but that does not they are Big Band or Swing.

  • LOVE Greatful Dead!!

  • 20 people are missing the yes or no question its the music you are to vote on not the video but the music.................

  • i always love this song, groovy and stuffy as all them songs

  • My favorite Dead tune.

Any subsequent time-wasting noodling is excused by this tune.

    Much love,

    Brian

  • Thanks but NO Thanks.....I don't touch it unless it takes water and sunshine to grow:)

  • @DolansDen The Coca plant takes water and sunshine to grow.

  • Just gives me chills listening!!! Great song!

  • @DolansDen thats probabbly the cocaine

  • Swear to god the same dude in the movie is trippin in the front row. If you're out there, chime in? unless you've become one of THEM. Smiles, people. There is a greater horizon out there, and it exists within. Huzzah!

  • @santafewilly love it.

  • i hate hippies and everything they stand for but these guys are just too good of a band.

  • @elo333333333 Well I used too have long hair like a hippie but that was in year 2009 but only reason why I got rid of it because too much work, brushing it and conditionar it an big water bill too. Today even though I look like one of those dorks, like everyone else I still dont care what anybody thinks of me, or if they like me or hate me either. ha ha

  • damn, born in 1966...still too late ... lol

  • They mention a lot about coke in their songs. Was it the era of coke or something?

  • Im not a Dead Head, Im a Merry Prankster, Acid Tested, graduated, with honors, to the music of the Greatful dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, & Big Brother & the Holding Co. ...... Im one of the few left!!! I am still here, & I still live on music like this!

  • @MrLaramie13 Well Mr. Prankster.... i'm not a dead head either. I'm just a dead hippie grrrl born in the WRONG time. And wrong place. This Song is Definatly one of my anthems.

  • "Deadhead" by The Teen Idles

  • Man, great video!

  • the audio isn't high quality

  • @Scottayc it was the sixty's- digital had not yet been invented.

  • my eyes are always low and blood shot...i have a stupid laugh....i say things like dude, man, and bro...i listen to the dead,,,smoke weed.....life is good man

  • The music of The Dead is pure genius and has the power to make anyone's soul sing

  • If this doesn't make you happy or put you in a good mood, nothing will

  • damn this song just hits your mind and grooves through your bones

  • @mattdamonlarge I like that. You're right.

  • white people cannot dance

  • haha that woman is blazed. gotta love the dead

  • @METZYMAN1212 I think shes alittle more than blazedd, its a dead concertt

  • @METZYMAN1212 She is probably more than blazed bro.

  • @tmotley78 most people these days have shitty taste in music anyway. This band an others like rolling stones, frank zappa, beatles, etc. are way better than all of todays Rap, Hip Hop and RnB music...lame

  • @MrPsa19 It's all about youth and image now in today's facebook world. The music part of the equation is virtually meaningless. It just has to be something that can be played in dance clubs for the vapid, tan, Jersey Shore crowd. The "performer" just better be young and beautiful. Or of course we have our very artistic "Lady Gaga" doing nothing that Elton John or David Bowie didn't already do in the 70s in terms of flamboyancy. We've become a narcissistic society where fame is a God given right

  • @Gossage54 your are right, it is all about image, lol

Anyway I stay away from most main stream bands today, I mostly listen too this band GD and rolling stones, Frank Zappa, the mothers of invention, and Pink Floyd, and also some psychedelic space rock bands like such as...GONG, STEVE HILLAGE, HAWKWIND, OZRIC TENTACLES

  • better watch your speed!

  • too cool

  • Senior year in High school, my friend put this song on. Fell in love with the Dead right then and there. Now, I can't stop listening. God, I fuckin love the Grateful Dead

  • I feel like getting away from all that BLS, Pantera, and AC/DC. It's good to listen to some Dead every now and again. Headbanger and Hippie.

  • @LueyLuvaexthe13th I perfer hippie, not head bangering myself.

  • Cocaine is a hella of drug. Rick James

  • nice little lead from bob../

  • Saw The Dead @ Woodstock!! When I was in Jr High in the late fifties I had a weird group of friends who used to get a publication from Harvard written by Doctors Leary, Metzner and Alpert called The Psychedelic Review. This was years before I smoked my first joint. We never thought that we would be able to get some LSD for ourselves. It's been a long time since my last trip, but I took 20 or so. They opened doors of perception and creativity that have changed my life.

  • COCAINE Leagalize It Motherfuckers

  • @PlowThrough8 reading this comment i have to say that what i think the dead were trying to say was how bad that stuff can be brother. if you listen to the words and listen to the deep meaning...... it all becomes clear the are warning you.

  • holy shit! thought that was CHong for a sec when he walked out onto stage! XD

  • @wolftigerrosebud no dude I'm referring to the legal fake L analalogs kid has been dropping on paper and flowing the scene with over the last decade hey you have real L more power to ya...but I doubt it... prolly you have some of those research chem goodies of unproven neurotoxicity like most of the molly and paper kids flow.

  • @wolftigerrosebud haha alright, i hope so man, I'll give it a whirl some day

  • @wolftigerrosebud 45-60 bucks for peace love and understanding? sounds a bit too good to me. I'd take a good time for that dough though

  • @wolftigerrosebud She only uses drugs occasionally

  • Its hard when most people use drugs, but other than the internet im antisocial pretty much so i dont hafta worry, i have an aloe plant but our conversations are pretty onesided- she has a way with words-wins every argument.

  • I really hate it when people record videos from their TV. UGH!

  • @wolftigerrosebud Loving the Kesey reference man ^.^

  • Awesome. Any month day or location for this bad boy?

  • And I consider my friends..... dead!

  • haha i got in trouble for singing this song at my house

  • @vmpbat97 lol your parents hate the dead lol

  • @taylorweasley Thank you for that comment, dude. I'm black and grew up with Motown and Top 40 pop songs. I love the Dead and Phish. I've seen shows since 1978. At the same time though, I love my Rap and Punk rock music. Some rap sucks but when I think of the lyrical genius that was Biggie Smalls, I'm just glad I can still hear his music. As for Punk, Patti Smith, nuff said. People need to stop being judgmental and expand their musical boundaries.

  • @Barbikat GOOD SHIT MANE!! I LOVE MUSIC FROM EVERY ASPECT MYSELF! MUCH RESPECT!! never rocked phish tho!! HA

  • @Barbikat ok, everyone can hate on me for saying this.......but your dumb man, this music is a golden piece of art, and rap, punk, etc. is all shit, you are totally wrong man.

  • @chainsawbeaver hey another close minded hippie whos talking about shit he knows nothing about...how surprising

  • @Barbikat YESSIR! That set everybody straight rite there!!

  • @Barbikat Absolutely agreed. you're a beautiful cat.

  • @Barbikat rap and hip hop has some good songs but I will be honest, I'm not a huge rap, hip hop and RnB fan but I like rock like this one on video grateful dead, frank zappa, Michael Jackson, etc. An I'm also into Jazz music too like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and so on.. An I like all Grateful Dead songs, an have every album of theirs and same with Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson.

  • @Barbikat Loved your last sentence, People need to stop being judgmental and expand their musical boundaries. You understand, most people don't.

  • @Barbikat I saw the comment because I am black and I am old enough to have seen the Dead live in Chicago from '93-'95, i even saw the last EVER concert 7-8-95, Touch of Grey opened the show, played Cumberland for the first time in 5 years (roughly), a very long intermission. I have seen Rush 9 times too. My point is: take any musical "genre" and 90% of it sucks. There is good music everywhere, just open your mind.

  • @Barbikat Peace man!!

  • 16 people have never snorted cocaine...

  • @TheJuunit21 Never did, never will...but still I love this.

  • Jerry Garcia R.I.P as well as the three keyboardists they had =(

  • riding that train HIGH on COCAIN, CASEY JONES watch ur fucking SPEED...hellyeahh, the 70's,80's&90's,were Great, just like GRATEFUL DEAD!!!!!

  • the greatful deed

  • this sucks

  • @meemin1 if it sux then dont listen too it.

  • Jerry Garcia reminds me of Randy Newman. I just now thought of that. I'm going to have to give that some more thought... they're both musical mavericks, and darn good at it... it was the voice that first made me think of it, though.

  • What we do is as American as lynch mobs. America has always been a complex place.

  • @countrymackandchevy Its not the country. Its the people.

  • this is amazing while high.

  • @thenobs123 or straight

  • @53dz or not

  • @Mrjakemw2 there is no better music than this

  • @Mrjakemw2 then why are you watching this video?

    get outa here man

  • @Mrjakemw2 so you listen to good music? id love to see what you listen to... probably eminem or some shit like thst

  • to you guys calling that girl psycho.... obviously none of you have ever been to Schwagstock!!!

and if you don't know what it is, google it!!!

too bad the Feds just busted it this past October, 2010

    RIP Camp Zoe!!!

    Camp Zoe Forever!!!

    peace and love people

  • Jerry was so happy :)

  • i could never see what was so good about the Dead i guess im to straight to understand it all

  • amazing

  • That gal is crazy trippin.

  • Psssssst... that psycho chick scares me too. Must be from the Manson family.

  • "Drivin' that train, high on cocaine"

  • @cckaibeto673 drugs suck an if you need to do drugs too enjoy music then youi have no taste.

  • @MrPsa19 drugs dont suck. but i agree with the taste part

  • @SplatteredBrainStain ya ya anyway besides grateful dead, what other bands you like too listen too?

for me I like The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Ozric Tentacles, Frank Zappa/mothers of invention, Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, Steve Hillage, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, etc.

I just got into grateful dead an they seem too be a pretty neat band, at 1st I thought it was lame cuze country but I saw alot of their songs on youtube an its good shit.

  • an I just purpose some GD cd's too an I also have one of their albums so far called from mars hotel.

  • Comment removed

  • this was the song i listened to when i got high for the first time :D

  • Lol my teacher is a dead head, that means he did lsd? we ask him and he doesn't say anything. He went with them on tour for 23 shows, what do you think? lmao

  • @Kraviis then ya he probalby did some kind of psychedelics. probably lsd since it was the most common one back then.

  • @Thirdgen83 you apparently have a terrible taste music and should really keep your bs comments to yourself. If you dont like this music, then wtf are you doing watching this video? Go find some Jonas Brothers song to rag on. The Dead played music for the people, not for the fame or money that artists play for nowadays. They started and continued a culture that was thought to have been extinct. Stick with your bs you call "music" and let the rest of us enjoy the one, the only, The Grateful Dead.

  • @Thirdgen83 Quit Being A Dick Just because You Don't Like The Dead Doesn't Mean You Need To Insult Them or The People Who Listen to Them You Inconsiderate Douche!

  • Jerry was on coke for this one.. look at his eyes!!

  • i think i just saw jesus after listening to this

  • Casey Jones wasn't high on cocaine..

  • Wasnt lucky enough to see the dead live.. but i did see the other ones and the Dead without jerry garcia.. Phil Lesh and Bob Weir are to epic to be real! Ive seen the Schwag which is a Dead cover band play a few times too.. Never been to a Jam session as good as a session with some music from the Dead... RIP jerry!

  • I met the Greatful Dead at 16! in Durham Cameron . I was hired as a doobie roller after being backstage all evening for the event of my entire life. Why I did not get on the bus still astounds me! I knew not, but I do now! I was front row n '93 lifechanging experience. My friends know and believe I love the fact I am here right now , always be in my heart the chic who had a Jackson Browne Saturate Before Using T-shirt on when I got to meet the greatest! I'll always be on the bus Smilin!

  • good song except 4 the drug reference...its revived my music sense again. havent heard this song in a long while. sorry about jerry and the dead wont b the same w/o him....peace out

  • lol @ myhotstuff . . . fing hipsters

  • no band has withstood the test of time like the Grateful Dead.. 1965-1995 and now Phil Lesh n friends carrying it on.. DeadHead for life for sure

  • love the grateful dead...imma dead head:)

  • poor quality audio but, there never was and never will be anything quite like the.. grateful dead.. if you are out of this 'loop of understanding' it is because you are a looser and will be a virgin until 65 when you die of cancer..if you knew even the simplest things about music you would have to know that 'the dead' are one of the greatest.

  • that girl is doing the Elaine dance.

  • @overlook77

    YESS!!!! lol

  • @overlook77 ha ha

  • this song is so good only cause of the extreme talent of the lead singer if i did not know better i would think that the voice is computer but the fact that someone can hit all those notes with such precision is completely mind blowing just kidding grateful dead sucks

  • @Mrjakemw2

grateful dead sucks!!!!! finally a voice of reason!!!!!

  • @fredrockz28 why are you listening to to them then?

  • @fredrockz28

You obviously have no taste in music whatsoever. It's not the sound of the music that counts as much as the meaning behind the song itself. You might have known that if you took your apathetic and anti-social self to the outside world for once. For Christ's sake, if you're going to try and talk shit about something/someone, you had better have a few facts to back you up. Not your opinion. No one gives a dead moose's last shit about you and your lame ass opinion.
