All you gotta do is backup to the package and be the furthest that you can and still use it. Right when you capture it, just run, even if it's a real one cuz you won't have time to run if you listen for it.

The way I tell if it's a booby trap is by what it's labeled as. If it's to good to be true then it's a trap.

Uh, pay attention to who called it in, check scoreboard to see if it is possible to be a real package (before it is dropped, obviously)

If it is IMS or Sentry, it is almost guaranteed to be safe

Guard it from a hidden spot. If the enemy comes to get it, it is real. If your teammate gets it first, he dies - not you - if it is fake.

this advice is utterly useless during an actual game...

1) sit rep is faster

2) watch for the enemies behavior around package

3) by the time you respawn and get back, if it was real, enemy probably has already picked it up.

You can also start to grab it and turn around while still holding X then right when it gets done sprint and jump last second and you will live. You need a SMG or Sniper with speed (non barrett or AS50) Thumbs up so people can see.

This is a good way but if your on a killstreak and you dont die I think phycologically. A person wouldnt throw a care package where there is action happening so if you see a care package in combat chances are its a fake. If you see a care package where the enemy spawns and no one has collected it then its definatly a trap

Or you can start to capture the care package, then right as it finishes, dive into the ground and it will either blow up, or you get the killstreak reward, and if it does blowup, you won't die :D
