I don't recall saying that it would go 10mph. Because we had a limited selection of outboards on the day that we shot this video, we showed the boat with an 8HP short shaft Mercury four stroke, which is really too much engine for the boat. I actually did plane the boat as an experiment, but I cannot recommend it due to the flat, soft bottom and the limitations which are on the capacity plate. Much happier with 2.5 to 4HP. I've had one of these for 10 years. I use it 3 times a year on bareboat charters in So Cal USA.
I run a 2hp Honda. I washed it after each use for the first 8 years, but I've gotten lazy. The thing looks like new. I'm now stepping up to a 310cm boat that will hold 4 adults and run on longer excursions with a 9.9hp. But for getting to the dock in protected anchorages with 4 or less people, this is a good portable boat.
