That reminds me, You taught me that I can use a butter knife as a throwing knife, I've been getting good so maybe I can get it in some one's eye if they decided to take it hostage. But I'll have more then a butter knife then though.
it looks like the throwing stance is similar to a zenkutsudachi (front stance) with the about 70/ 30 most being on the front leg, is that about right or is it more even?
@Xolette Im srry, i gave you the wrong time, lol. I meant to ask where I can get the knives with the ring in the handel. The ones hes holding in the photo at the beginning.
@thornghost5 Those knives were custom made for Jack awhile ago, so I'm pretty sure you can't buy them. However, he did design a bowie throwing knife that they used on the show "Top Shot". You can buy these knives if you go to the "Store" link on his Jack Dagger page. You can find these page by searching "Jack Dagger".
at :35 secs watch the lady in the back grounds hands, she seems to be spinning a blade and well I might add.
Nice video very informative and insightful, it is such a joy to train with people with the same passion for the martial arts. You all seem like your having a good time.
@chefken1976 Haha, Jack's one of my heroes! I'm just a random girl on YouTube. :) But thanks. It was a lot of fun and I learned A LOT! Glad you liked the vid!
@Xolette - You might think you are just a random girl on YouTube, but I think you aren't. I like your knife throwing vids and learned a lot of them. I am new to knife throwing and I find it hard to find some good knife throwing tutorials... so I am very thankful for yours :D. Have a nice Sunday!
@chefken1976 Haha, same here! It was hard for me to find a good knife throwing tutorial, so I'm glad I can help. I have been looking for a tutorial on how to build a free-standing knife target, and of course the only video that comes up is my other video. Anyway, my next vid, I'm going to build a free standing "log round" using stacked up 4 X 4's. I'm hoping it works! Anyway, thanks for the comment! Happy Sunday!
@Xolette - You are more then welcome. Maybe there are some good instructional dvds you can suggest... succes with your build... looking forward to the video. bye bye
@chefken1976 Good instructional vids that I suggest: Knife Throwing 101: The Jack Dagger Method (link in the description), Combat Knife Throwing by Ralph Thorn (instruction on No-Spin-- found on amazon(dot)com) and lots of good information on throwzini(dot)com. Hope that helps!
@Xolette - hahahaha... all the ones I ordered already.... still on their way. Thanks for the suggestions though. The fact I ordered those already means that I am on the right track. Where I live, Belgium, you can't find anything on this subject cause throwing knives are forbidden weapons :(
@chefken1976 Forbidden?! The shame! :) Well, glad you got some good vids on the way. You'll definitely be well-rounded with spin and no-spin with those 2 DVD's!
@airborne101st45 - well unfortunately that happens sometimes....especially when I order throwing knives outside Europe. But I am a cook so I don't worry about finding knive to stick ;) ...
I wish I could comment on how I like to throw certain knives over others, and where I have accuracy problems, but alas, I've gone to the dark side of AXE THROWING! :-D That doesn't mean that I won't eventually get around to knives, but axes are proving to be fun right now.
I agree with sirg31... I always get nervous for you during your indoor videos! I know you're well practiced at it, but I'm always a wreck when it comes to ricochets haha.
excellent post, xolette!!...glad to see you throwing outdoors instead of your kitchen : ) ....JD makes it look easy...he's the man...i'll bet he can throw knives in his sleep.
@sirg31 Haha, I bet! He was throwing knives from the chair he was sitting at too. After throwing at his target, my target at home is so disappointing. Wish I could throw outdoors regularly, but it's impossible without a backyard!
@MrM00Mz That's why I converted to the spin technique, because it becomes easier for me to hit the target at long range, and I think easier to aim. Yes, they are heavy-- a bit too much. So far, I like the Bailey Boker Ziel's in terms of their weight and size for spin throwing. However, I'm hoping to get a custom set one of these days. Jack sent me a link awhile ago that has a link to the guy who makes his throwing knives. I might get a set with him when I have more money in the bank. :)
@MrM00Mz Well, you're awesome at no-spin from far away! Is your accuracy pretty good too? That'd be amazing to see at a competition! As for the Sure Balance, I don't like them for no spin. The handle's too short, in my opinion, plus they're way too heavy. Jack also thought they were too heavy for throwing knives. His sets were lighter and I could throw them with more consistency than my Sure Balance throwers.
@MrM00Mz I think it'd be great to see no-spin at a competition. I would ask the coordinators of the competition if it's possible, but I haven't heard of such a thing. I'm sure it'd be fine. Jack told me that everyone did there own thing at the Cold Steel Challenge. But behind the 2m line, I throw half a spin. Behind the 3m line, full spin. Behind the 4m line, 1.5 spins, etc. It worked after my crash course with Jack. :)
@MrM00Mz Oh hey! Sorry I haven't gotten back to your email. My inbox is like a blackhole! But, yes, there are suggested distances. You must likely have my problem, which is learning no-spin first results in no wrist snap at the end, which leads to a constant underspin, so it gets hard to get your distances down. I was having trouble past 6' with the spin, but after figuring out how to get the next half spin with my knives, my throwing actually follows what's recommended by IKHOTF.
@hashashin821 Yes, he lives on my side of the nation. :) He's very down to earth and generous. I think it must be natural for knife thrower enthusiasts to be extremely kind and gracious!
Though I do respect and appreciate the techniques and lessons of others, I think that everyone should really develop their own throwing styles. Just my thoughts but all due respect to both you and Jack Dagger (what an appropriate name). And once I find some time, I'll record and post some throwing vids of my own. Keep it up Colette!
@hourof10 I agree, and Jack would say the same. He actually just wanted to make adjustments to my throw, not change it completely. But everyone one needs a starting off point and some general guidance. Thank you for the comment. Look forward to your video!
@Loumetalsinger May I suggest Jack Dagger's Knife Throwing DVD in the description to this video? The DVD covers all the basics from grip, stance, and where to get your targets.
@RDPproject Thanks for the comment! I haven't had Jack Dagger look it over yet so I was surprised to see a comment so soon-- I saved it as unlisted... which I guess isn't working. :) Anyway, haha, that throw is good for a sneak attack! I also bought kydex. I'm hoping my knife sheath plan will go into effect this weekend!
Hello, who makes Jack's knives?
