this is a great thing.. for someone who likes apt and the gnu toolchain. don't get me wrong, i have a lot of respect for the debian project and the fsf, but this is freebsd - without what i like about it, i.e. consistent kernel and userland, insane stability, ports, etc.
what i'd like to see is a debian bsd/klinux. the linux kernel is unbeatable in hardware support, and would make an excellent base for using the bsd userland and package management.
This is a very good demo video. I do want to point out, though, that the proprietary nVidia FreeBSD driver is not designed to be installed on a GNU system. I tried it once, but I encountered problems. For one, the installer wanted the kernel source to be located where FreeBSD would normally put it. Also, the installer was expecting the normal FreeBSD system utilities in the normal FreeBSD places, such as BSD make to be installed as "make."
Having Debian packages with this new variant is pretty damn cool, however my only gripe is they don't appear to use the BSD style configurations (i.e simple and fewer text files like rc.conf, etc) which I prefer :(
@ElderSnake90 Yeah its more intended for linux in particulary debian switchers who can find their configuration files on the "right" places. So its kind of a completely new approach in the BSD world to create a GNU/kfreebsd Distribution (which seems to be just a linux distro with a bsd kernel)
Excellent review. I might try Debian GNU/KfreeBSD on my server box.

I use debian because it is linux ... linux FTW

@cobraTheJoker But, you don't have ZFS and BTRFS is still a work in progress. The only reason I'm looking at BSD is because of ZFS.

@llelectronics Yeah I think you're quite right. Nevertheless, I'll be keeping a watch on this project, I think it has a lot of potential still
