Love his laugh at the end. Despite his reserved and somewhat aloof persona there just seems to be something about him that captures the very best of human artistry. One of those enigmatic people you wish you'd known. R.I.P.
The voice may be a bit croaky, but this is extra special.have heard a few versions of this over the years and this enters the charts as Number One.Love the way he keeps big Phil in check.Beautiful...Thanking you for the post Alan and keep up the good work
One of Gerry's wonderful songs. We are lucky that he wrote lots of them! I am pleased to have all his recordings which I enjoyed many times and will continue to do. Thanks Gerry and may you rest in peace. Jan from NL.
@AlanRafferty Alan, I think it's a great version... Gerry had an incredible voice and an incredible talent for writing great songs... I started listening to him in high school in the '70's and loved him in Stealers Wheel... Thanks for sharing the music...
In an interview this week in Paisley Daily Express , Ken Manners who is a singler songwriter from Paisley gives an interview about his early friendship with Gerry. He says he has home recordings of 7 songs Gerry recorded in a tape at his home in the late 60s including this one ! Let`s hope they get a wider audience than just Ken himself !
Thank you Alan, wonderful! The little story certainly adds to this enchanting song. Wonder if Mr. Ventilla changed his mind about about becoming nothing? He was not quite right. And please accept my condolences.

Thanks Alan, the voice is a wee bit shaky and the strumming a wee bit pedestrian but really this is a great version.
Crikey (re comment below) I remember Ken Manners playing around the pubs in Glasgow

@bigrab Yeah, but it worked perfectly to make the song what it was, and as special as it was in the end Rab. A master at work...............

Proud to be a Gerry Rafferty fan. His songs will live on. One of the best songwriters on the planet. Baker St, Right Down The Line, Night Owl etc....
Should be inducted into the hall of fame without doubt.
