@SlingBlade79 i've thought the same thing but upon reflection i realised that 1st of all with 99% of the human population dead there wouldn't be enough people left to bury or burn the dead--so maybe major epidemics would break out. Also unmaintained nuclear reactors everywhere would melt down and dump tonnes of radioactive waste into the atmosphere where it would eventually return as rain and snow. And that's just the start.

But short-term, there are civil defense procedures covering power plants during evacuations or epidemics. Probably those would prevent a lot of melt-downs.
