  • Gosh darn! THis is a damn good video.

    Huey rocks the casbah!

  • Real fucking music

  • LOVE the bass line in this.

  • Well Done!

  • Saw Huey and the gang sing the national anthem in San Francisco today at the 49ers game.

  • che brrraviii!!!!!

  • I think Mr Lewis was a force in The 80's that deserved respect. The problem was he had to contend with the likes of Madonna, Prince, and Michael Jackson in that decade. That stated, I like the tune, Mr. Lewis.

  • Sensacional. Muito bom.Que aconteceu com a América que não produz mais bandas desse nível?Será que o politicamente correto acabou com que é bom na América?Volte anos 80.

  • Ezen a napon születtem... :D Akkor ez volt a slágerlisták csúcsán... :D :D :D

  • I was born too late.

  • I first started getting inteested in music when I turned 13, in 1989. Unfortunately, that was when all the crappy rap and boy/teen artists wers coming out. So, I decided to go in the other direction. Most of the muisc I listen to is: clasic rock, progressive rock, new wave and metal from (1965-1987) the time when the bands really ROCKED!!

  • I've always wondered what this song is supposed to be about. Can anyone tell me?

  • I love that song! Huey Lewis & the News are my second favorite band. Night Ranger is my first.

  • @matthewfein You have great taste in music, my friend!!!!!

  • ONE OF THE BEST

  • They would play this song regularly at the stop and shop I worked at. They also played about 14 bruce hornsby songs. You can't say bruce aint getting his dues.

  • It's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

    Hey Paul!

  • I heard this for the 1st time while in the AF in Korea. Kind of gave me focus. Thanks for the post. Keep the faith

  • one of my favourite acts in the 80's. so many smash hits . and definetely not underrated. They had 3 #1's , power of love, stuck with you and this one (for a single week only but yet it reaches the top) . bruce hornsby btw had also a # 1 (the way it is) The 80's pushed music so high that the music industry had to low down people's expectations. and since they are selling puke like bieber and others so well i don't see any changes. i'm 45 and i consider myself lucky having my teens in the 80's

  • GOINg tO SEE HUEY TONIGHT!

  • According to a pro-groupie "Huey" got quite a "ladder" himself .-)

  • Tis band is always tight !!! the best!

  • great tune! one of his best.

  • This was great in 87 and it is great now

  • AWESOME! By the way, 15 people aren't climbing Jacob's ladder.

  • I was there in the Oakland Coliseum when they filmed this, New Years Eve, 1985!

  • Interesting. I'll have to show this to my friend Paul Allen.

  • everything about this song is perfect! bruce hornsby wrote it, huey's voice was made for it, it has an epic guitar solo, and a good message. i will NEVER get tired of hearing it!

  • Oh I still have this concert on VHS. One of the best shows; I just wish I was there to have experienced it. One of the greatest bands ever....period.

  • Huey and the News hit #1 in Billboard, 3-14-87. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!

  • One of those rare occasions where the cover version is better than the original - Huey's voice suits it more than Bruce Hornsby. Not that there's anything wrong with BH&TR, of course!

  • We all have a Jacob's Ladder to climb. KEEP CLIMBING!!

  • "Coming over the airwaves... the man says I'm overdue.

Sing along... send some money... join the chosen few.

Hey mister I'm not in a hurry... and I don't wanna be like youuuuuuuuuuuuu!"

Brilliant. Huey's best song right here. And damn did they sound great live or what? Chris Hayes is such an awesome guitarist. Glad I got to see them back then. Thanks for posting the vid! It brought me back... waaaaaay the hell back.

  • I remember when this my sister bought this tape. I had gotten a Sound Design stereo system with the dual cassettes from Kmart for my birthday. The cool thing was you could dub tapes. So, I get a blank tape and I go to copy it and it turned out to be one of the first tape to have a copy guard on it. So, my little scheme didn't work out. Why am I telling my story here...I have no clue, but this song brings back many good memories like this one.

  • Huey Lewis and the News had three #1 US hits. I'm sure anyone who knows 80s music would get Power of Love and after a few guesses they'd probably get Stuck on You. However I wouldn't be a surprised if a number of them forgot about Jacob's Ladder. Definitely a much different song from their earlier work but a great song nevertheless.

  • This group defined an era of great music and lots of love. God bless Huey and The News!

  • The 80's: When music reached its nadir! lol

  • Back then I worshipped this band. I drove my wife and friends crazy. Its just good clean american rock and roll. Easy to listen too and tap your feet and sing along. Thumbs up for HL & TN

  • @vettedreams I agree, Huey was a nice guy, played fun rock and roll. it was clean and you could just dance and have fun. I loved this band then too I saw them perform like 10 tiimes over the years. I never get tired of hearing their music.

  • We saw Huey Lewis & the News in Chattanooga 6/10/11. Awesome! Only disappointment? They did not do this song :(

  • @hawkeye3073 I never saw him back in the 80s and went for the first time last year. Liked it so much I went again a couple weeks ago! No Jacobs either year, not in the play list, dunno why. Huey use to frequent the small clubs here in Detroit back before he went large in the 80's.

  • WOW ... I remember this from years back in high school. Glad I came across it !!!

  • This Band is the Real deal!! COME ON!! Anyone that knows anything about music knows this! Seen them to many times to count!!

  • (((DANCE ALL NITE))) The Hot New Single by St. Louis MO, own (Fort Knox) is now out for everone to enjoy. Tell a friend. And Rate, comment, and subscribe!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol im 39 and grew up on this stuff. i sill think it rocks ! even by todays standard. love the old school rock !!!!!!

  • ok...i'm 33 now...this stuff was big when i was just starting to understand music and stuff...and it's like i go back now, when music sucks so badly (all created artificially, all lip sync, all crap), and i hear this and i get it. when i hear this i still tap my feet, nod my head, and play the air guitar. this was GOOD music. like the other poster said, if this was released today, it would still be good music. it would still get airtime...

  • Now that's. How you do it. LIVE.

Bar band does good... yes, I know the "Back to the Future" connection made you sick of "The Power of Love"... but these guys were no "one-hit wonders" -- they were *good*!

  • To me, HLN are the ultimate rock band. They are great musicians, have enjoyed worldwide success, but remain real and accessible. They have never allowed hype to get in the way of the music. A wonderful back-catalog that brings endless pleasure to millions around the world, yet they are still, I believe, under-valued.

  • we have seen Huey three times in the 90's and twice since 2000 and he is just as good if not better than he was then.Huey rocked then and he still rocks now!!!

  • we have seen Huey three times in the 90's and twice since 2000 and he is just as good if not better than he was then.Huey rocked then and he still rocks now!!!

  • Evil period. Demons unleashed by satan himself..step by step one bye one for claiming your souls. lyrics speak for themselves (satan that evil one which decieveth the whole world) and in oh so many ways.

  • Dr. Ed Young of Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas said on the morning of 05/15/2011 that he could tell what kind of person you are by the people that you spend most of your time with. Based on that if you are an attorney, you are probably personally involved in drugs, alcohol, fraud, and/or divorced. He said that you should not spend time much with people that are not Christian. What does that say about garbage men and police? Preachers living in multi-million dollar neighborhoods?

  • See YouTube "Second Baptist 5 Locations" for list of church executives and contact info. If you have questions or would like to voice opinion, those are the men managing the church and making the decisions. If you think that your vote during Wednesday Outreach to buy a church on FM1960E counted or mattered, you are wrong. Only symbolic. Only about 200 people (including non-members) voted out of the 51,0000+ members. The decision to buy the church and financial details had been in the works.

  • youtube.com /watch?v=tQEF_pAH6Xk Second Baptist Church YouTube search: "SBCHouston Blessed Blessing."

  • Other bands had a PARTy...Huey WAS THE PARTY!

  • Pretty awesome entrance...cruise on out in front of thousands of fans and kicks ass!

  • Nice, I almost forgot about this song.. not my favorite but a good one. I love this band!!! Saw them live at Stern Grove Festival... FREE! Such a wold class act!!! Huey's harp playing that day, in line with his brass section, was just un-fuck'n-beleivable. He was on top of his game and that was in 2007.

  • above all this, huey lewis and the news are a landmark in y generation...

and i thank them for this...

  • This was written by Bruce Hornsby, a fine Southern jazz musician in his own right, who is still composing and performing today. Listen to Hornsby's version of his song someday, he doesn't play it as a rocker like The News does, but it sounds great in a softer, style too.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen....THIS WAS A REAL BAND!!!

  • I've heard this when I was four. Ten years on, still love it.

  • @WaffleSandwichMan lol spelling fail. I heard*

  • 14 people thought it said "Dis I Like"

  • This man rocks

  • Definitely one of his most underrated tunes.

Please, children of today, listen to as much of this stuff as often as possible because the crap the money sucking studios are putting out today is not music. It's piles of edited, rehashed, resampled garbage.

Why do you think today's "artists" use this old stuff anyway?

To make their crappy song sound a little bit better! But remember, you can't polish a turd....

Just YouTube some 70's, 80's videos. SAVE YOURSELVES BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE !!!!

  • @13MindsEye I must agree with you 100%. I'm being put down because these kids say that people with a really powerful voice screaming so loud you can't understand it, is much better than something written.

  • @13MindsEye What about Drake.

  • @13MindsEye. I'm 13 years old and I like this music very very much!!!!!

  • @13MindsEye In your rant you forgot to mention auto-tune.

  • Bruce Hornsby wrote it... both are legends.

  • @Benny8084 What you said is so true. And same for Hornsby : Lewis produces 3 songs on his album "The way it is". Legend.

  • @13MindsEye... Well put!

  • Comment removed

  • simply the best band ive ever heard. so damn tight! such accomplished and noble musicians. they new just where to put the licks and never over played. god they are great.

  • ça c'est de la Vraie Musique ! comme hélas il n'y en as presque plus !!

  • Nice tune, Huey! Did he ever get asked about Duey and Leuy? Probably lots of times.

  • Good cover of one of Bruce Hornsby's best tunes.

  • Another of the very few bands that sound better live, than they do in their studio cuts. I've seen them live, with Loverboy, and both bands were awesome. Very memorable concert.

  • this is just a great band and Huey Lewis is so great. Love this song, one of the best

  • ahhh the 80's...when things sucked less.

  • @cybrdata2 even when some things did suck in the 80's we still loved it, today's music is all crap.

  • Is this concert, full show on dvd????Please tell

  • the lead guitarist sounds like he was influenced by Ace Frehley! this was hueys best song!

  • This is superb.

  • 634 people are retarted

  • Huey may not have all the special effects , tricky lights, or pyrotechnics, but as far as a live show...He's as good as any. And his voice is as good live as it was in the studio!

  • 14 people aren't going to heaven

  • Being a man in his late 20's opens up alot of things. A struggling artist myself, I gain hope from the passion that Huey puts into the music. I don't mean to single him out however. The entire band, if you have seen them live, has a charisma among the best. I have seen them twice in my lone 28, but both times it was amazing. And if you say it backwards museum. Seriously say it backwards musuem amazing...amazing museum....Ha Ha I got the copyright...Huey Rocks!!!

  • What a voice. Great to remember.

  • Plain and simple, Huey Lewis and the News RULE!!

  • I saw them Live in August of 1987 at the Hartford Civic Center....SAME ENTRANCE to the concert I went to.

  • The 14 people who 'dislike' this video must have fallen off Jacob's ladder.

  • Studio version hit #1 pop, #10 rock, #17 AC, in Billboard. Or maybe it's just all lip-synched. Anyway, it was Billboard's #41 song of '87. God bless, and, Happy new year!

  • the fucking guitarist gets sooo emotional in this video! he was feeling the music!

  • EPIC! My fav song of 5th grade.

  • my brothers name is hughie same as huey ang my cousins name is quey and they are both named after thier dads and thier dads arnt even related

  • how did the 80s give us all the best music? maybe reagan ordered it! lol !

  • Wow, Chris Hayes, what a guitarist.

  • The GREATEST of the 80s!!!!

  • i guess the 14 guys who dislike this kind of music are not human....

  • 14 people are from the deep south...

  • @jerryfudala

    ...where real music died

  • Comment removed

  • @CFMD28 I can tell, your so dumb you cant tell I was referring to people that put a thumbs down that didnt like it.

  • @jerryfudala 1. Don't get your panties in a twist ! 2. Learn punctuation and spelling before you refer to someone as dumb!

  • Look at that.

13 people that don't know what real music is.

Well, if they don't like Mr. Lewis and the News, then they probably never will know what real music is anyway.

  • Chris Hayes on guitar, brilliant ! Great song !

  • any band that can sound this good "live", performing a well-written song deserves the respect of all true music lovers.

  • Come to think of it, Huey is just a little older than I am, and here I am sixty years old and he's still jammin' out! I tell ya folks, it just ain't fair! Rock on, Brother...

  • A couple of decades ago, Huey and his boys had the Charleston (WV) civic center rocking about 40 degrees on a side with this and other hits of his: it was GREAT!

(and after the concert, I was deaf for two days)

  • Great seeing Huey singing the National Anthem at the SF Giants game 2010! YES, awesome performance...

  • great 80's pop tune when huey and the boys were on top of the world!!!

  • good

  • Saw them live this last summer. They've done some cool stuff with the arrangement of this tune. Extended it a bit. Really interesting. Really cool.

Yeah when Chris Hayes is really on, it is very nice!

  • Saw them live this last summer. They've done some cool stuff with the arrangement of this tune. Extended it a bit. Really interesting. Really cool.

  • Uber-great!

  • Saw these guys in concert two years ago. Paul Thorn opened for them. Was a good night.

  • From a musician's perspective, Huey Lewis and the News preempt a lot of other bands and singers from the single standpoint that they grew out of a "lounge act" that put in its time, did the bar circuit (still do, I heard) and paid their dues, unlike many of the so-called "top artists" who faked their way to dominance by using technology, voice-overs, double and triple recorded vocal tracks, etc. If you are a musician, you appreciate the legitimate talents of this band.

  • @MotownRockinroller Yes, much like the J. Geils Band before them, this band cut their teetha dfn honed their chops in the clubs before they ever got a record deal. Whether there was 50 fans or 50,000 they appreciated the chance to play.

  • @MotownRockinroller I'm not sure, but maybe by your nic on here, that you may be a fellow Michigander. I could not agree more with the technology thing. It's as if the singers aren't even singing anymore, all one hears today is mostly autotune in songs. Just trying to figure out why it was that Cher had to use it - not that she even needs it, but that really got the ball rolling, didn't it ?...lol.. I can't even listen to today's music anymore. So sad.

  • @MotownRockinroller I'll listen to the Big Band Era music such as Glen Miller - 40s, along with do-wop 50s, 60s, some 70s, 80s and 90s, but I call it quits after that Cher song, after that, I kept hearing more and more of it, they just overdid it on that autotune. Now, there's jokers out there that use that, that can't even sing and making bundles of money from it. Is this what music has come to ? What would happen if they were to take that autotune away from them ?

  • @MotownRockinroller They was so unique, their "own sound, own style" per say!!! I am an 80's BIG FAN having grown up (young adult) then!! HUEY WAS AN ICON in their own right!! LOVE EM!!!

  • @MotownRockinroller You're right. There is skill behind their notes. Their music could be released today and still sound fresh.

  • @MotownRockinroller Huey rocked in the 80's and he still rocks today

  • love Huey, love the 80's, but......sorry to the poster below there offering that Huey was "king of the 80s". Lol! not by a long shot. yes, great band that certainly was part of the fabricwork, but.........aren't we forgetting something here? and their names were U2, Madonna, and THE POLICE. aside from "wacko jacko", probably the biggest 3 entertainment names "EVER" in the 80s. Huey? great bay area band that went national, with some good tunes. let it stay right there...

  • @drumdude46 huey > u2

  • Always has been A very tight band,I live near Atlantic City and every year we go to see them

  • que gran tema

  • i always loved huey. he has a great voice and i was jealous of his hair.

  • Huey wasn't King of the '80s... he WAS the '80s. As to the poster who said he wasn't bigger than Jacko or Madonna: That's true, but he was right on par with them. They would be the "Big Three" of the era. And now Jacko's dead, Madonna did all kinds of slutty and controversial stuff, and meanwhile Huey has never had any scandal of any kind, totally loved by everyone, and is still even touring some. Huey wins.

  • @ednaboopadoop huey may not have had any 'scandal', but let's be honest he hasn't exactly been in the limelight since about 1987! don't get me wrong, i would put these guys in the top 3 underated artists of the 80's, but bigger than journey, meatloaf, tina turner, dire straits, queen? come on!

  • @thehoff1982 -- Not sure I get your point, I never said he was "bigger" than anyone, and yes he hasn't been in the limelight since about 1987 -- that's why I said he WAS "the '80s." And at that time, when he was on top of his game, he may well have outsold at least some of the acts you mention, album-wise and/or concert sales. And playing with the legendary Tower of Power Horns counts for something. In any case, I don't think he takes a back seat to Meat Loaf (LOL) for example.

  • @ednaboopadoop you said the big 3 of the era was huey, madge and jacko - meaning those 3 were bigger than anyone else. i apreciate your enthusiasm for huey, just trying to give you some perspective. also, whilst i suggested meatloaf, you might want to google meatloafs album, singles successes and yeah, even concert sales, trust me, lots of acts were bigger than huey. as i stated, he was very underated, hence i am listening to him right now!

  • @thehoff1982 You're probably right in some ways, it just really seems to me that Huey really was on the radio a LOT back then -- so much so that when I saw him in concert recently, I could sing right along to almost every thing they played, never having owned one of his albums. There's a lot to be said about Meat Loaf, almost a whole different genre really, it was almost hard to know how to take him, a long haired fat guy, over-the-top melodramatic performance, and named himself "Meat Loaf."

  • @ednaboopadoop lol i know what you mean. i guess i'm just sick of all the manufactured, lip sync'd, auto tuned, over sampled cover versions and hip hop today! i used to like r'n'b and hip hop but it's become so bland. i miss the 80's so much!!!

  • @ednaboopadoop

Please don't refer to Michael Jackson as "Jacko". This was a term coined by the British press.

The man gave over $500 MILLION dollars to charity. And yes, he is dead. Killed by an incompetent "Doctor".

    Please show some respect.

    MadMark

  • @Madmark4488

He also paid off a kid who allegedly was sexually abused by him rather than clear his name in the courts like the rest of us would have. Perhaps the $500 million goes some way to ease his guilt

  • @DonkeyJoe why was michael jackson accused of the same thing ??

whenever there is money, there is interest somehow...

Portugal same thing with Herman Jose great comediant... somehow they wanted him involved with minor abuse..

nevertheless i think even underaged they still have mind to think about what they are doing...

  • @DonkeyJoe

I am glad you used the word "Allegedly".

Sony's insurance company settled out of court, not Michael.

I would be happy to discuss this in PM's if you wish.

    MadMark

  • @ednaboopadoop you are forgetting 1 thing: noone knows huey lewis.... ask some people under 20, everyone knows madonna and jacko, noone knows huey... but i still like him (and the band)

  • Saw this mentioned on Comedy Central. Nice jazz hands homie.

  • Huey Lewis & The News recorded JACOB'S LADDER by Bruce and his brother John Hornsby as a reciprocation for Lewis singing background on DOWN THE ROAD TONIGHT from Bruce's band The Range's album THE WAY IT IS which was released around the same time as HL&TN's album FORE!.

  • Great song love it................

  • Saw Huey on Tuesday and it was the greatest. He still puts on a great show. What a nice guy and whata businessman. His marketing is A1. The new cd comes out in November.

  • wouldn't say he was the King of the 80's - bigger than madonna or jacko? - i don't think so! they were very underated though, hueys vocals were amazing! thumbs up if you think they should get back together and rescue us all from all the r'n'b/hip hop/bieber crap thats in the charts today!!!

  • Who would "dislike" this (13 thumbs down as of 8/13/10)? Douchebags, that's who!

  • Ditto redtailedkite

  • Maxxxshop@ You are absolutely right!!

  • One of the best live bands in music!

  • God these guys were good, they would be SuperStars today, very talented Musicians, I believe this was filmed in Portland Oregon at the old Glass Palace Awesome venue....Go Blazers!

  • loved Huey so much..so awesome live..try that Britney!

  • I was 12 when this song came out. I liked the beat to it but when you're 12 you're not really paying attention to the lyrics...now that I'm older I really appreciate the lyrics. And always had a crush on Huey!

  • Bruce Hornsby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • göttlich !!

  • Chris Hayes' outtros are brilliant. Most HLN songs have one if you notice.

  • Great performance from Huey and the News but let's also give credits to Bruce Hornsby for writing this song for Huey.

  • This song does not fit with the movie AT ALL!!!

  • hueys rockin the black canadian tuxeto!! good old tune!!

  • I'd kill to take a DeLorean "back in time" to see these guys play live while they were still in their prime. I mean they're pretty good now but back in the day, they were downright Amazing.

  • well, theres proof that 12 people are retarded. i dont understand how you can click on the video, and then click "dont like"

Can someone explain this to me ????

  • el mejor representante de los 80s ellos eran musicos realmente tocaban los instrumentos, cantaban no como ahora, musicos e interpretes de a deveras como:las aguilas, chicago, etc los de ahora tienen ke aprenderles mucho..........

  • TOP CLASS!!!!

  • QUE MAGINIFICA CANCION DEL ALBUM EN ESA LONG PALY FORE!

  • Fuck that Guitar solo on the end is bang on perfect shit hot gimme more

  • @pissandwind - Chris Hayes is top-shelf.

  • huey lewis and the news are the fucking best!! I listen to the Fore! album a lot. Jacob's Ladder is one of my favorite songs.

  • Hit #1 pop, #10 rock, #17 AC in Billboard. God bless!

  • Huey Lewis and the News.............awesome group, cranked out hit after hit!! Like this one? Try our Nationl Anthem on You Tube. They ruled on that one. No one comes close!

  • de que año es esto pleaseeee

  • @BedededeII Diciembre de 1986 en el Oakland Coliseum
