I think Kubrick was a brilliant craftsman who only needed an idea to start with. like the single small idea of human conciousness, and then he goes off on his own kubrickian tangent and makes a film that frankly doesn't even match the book (2001, Shining). I read the book "A Clockwork Orange" when I was in high school. I was impressed then that Kubrick made his film fairly true to the book. But I agree with you in that Kubrick made the film "his own," with his unique interpretation of the book.

I didn't read "The Shining." I hated the movie. The film was unintentionally funny in places. For me, Kubrick's last good film was "Barry Lyndon," which was unfairly panned by the critics.

I agree, Barry Lyndon is perhaps kubricks finest film, i mean the visuals of barry lyndon are mouth watering, the zooms are spectacular, the costumes impeccable. i dont think the critics pan it any more. its considered somewhat of a masterpeice now. i think it was panned in its day cause everyone expected a more controversial film out of a guy like kubrick.

This film is a very basic story, but is overdrowned in metaphors and satire for lots of really philosophical and political subjects. those who don't understand that see this as a bizarre and even ridiculous film, while its really that what makes the film what it is, and allows it to experiment so delightfully. theres more than meets the eye here, literally

I don't know why, but every time i see this scene, an evil, but innocent smirk comes to my face. Stanley Kubrick, a true genius. The pure violence, and the beautiful music in the background is so strangely beautiful. My friends laugh at me, and they watch stupid movies, like Michael Bay flicks.
