Your question about the lack of adults is very common. It's important to understand that the movie isn't mean to be taken literally but rather is symbolic, likening the killing of those three bullies and the subsequent chaos to a political revolution in which the oppressed become as bad as their former oppressors. It was a very innovative concept; a political allegory in the context of a 70s exploitation movie. I think the movie's uniqueness is the reason for its zealous cult following.

This town has the worst police department, let alone school faculty.....those 3 scumbags would have faced expulsion just for the switchblade in the gym.....then the sexual assault which would have put those assholes behind bars....they mysteriously die ....among others.
The police don't show up until the very end and you don't even see them get out of the car.....gee, a little late, boys.

Imagine if they remade this or showed this to kids in school I don't think there would be a lot of bullying going on if kids did this kind of stuff to the bullys. After the whole colombine incident I would think kids would be scared to bully other kids. Just sayin is all.
They should show this at school's and say "If anymore bullying happen's, were might just let the bulled do this to you bullier's" That will scare them stairght.
OK I'm all for Bullies getting their assess kicked and victims taking a stand but this movie was a little unrealistic even by 70's standards. Where were the teachers or the cops or adults and when I say adults I mean the people who were supposed to be the parents and not the adults playing students!

thanks for this. this movie is really hard to find now. they used to play it on cable tv in the 80s when i was in high school. one of my favorites.
