I know a guy who was in the Bosnian military. He said he used a 10w40 motor oil to lubricate his AK rifle. He also said the commercial oil you buy in the store is junk compared to using that. Myself, I've found that you can take 3/4 Lucas oil stabilizer and 1/4 hoppes and it makes a gun oil that works wonders.
ive shot it an I must say it is a blast to shoot! its alot of fun an is an outstanding firearm. my only problem with it is the handgaurd got kinda warm i think it was from not having any breathing holes but i didnt shoot it enough for it to get to hot so be careful.
I shot this one yesterday, and it did get very very hot after going through around 60rnds in a row. I actually have a new oem handguard I am going to be machining so it can breathe. I will put up a video of it once I have it all done on the drill press.
Did you try out the original magazine before shipping it back? I restored my saiga to accept standard ak mags, also installed the tapco g2 trigger group, bullet guide, etc and I'm still able to shoot the factory magazines without any issues.
I did try it, it swung in, but did not catch on and stay. From what I have researched, you can get the factory ones/extended 30 round factory style in my case to work, however you need to shave off a bit on the lip to where it snugs up against the mag release.
Here is the thing though, the 30 round "Saiga only" mags cost around 30 dollars each. The Tapco 30 round AK-47 ones cost 9.99 each. By returning the 1 Saiga only one, I was sent 3 Tapco ones in return.

That is a very cool technique. I can't even imagine what has been used to lubricate this gun overseas during wars etc.
