@thedroogfulable This was released probably somewhere around 1969. I bought the album new that had this song on it, and I sang it a lot as a pre-graduate in high school. To everyone else here, Charlie sadly passed away earlier this year. His music will live on though for many years to come, as long as we have formats like youtube to preserve his music.
ABOUT TWO HOURS SOUTHWEST OF ST. LOUIS IS A BEAUTIFUL STREAM CALL "CURRENT RIVER." IT IS A SPRING FED STREAM THAT FLOWS ABOUT 7 MILES PER HOUR. AT A CAMP GROUND CALLED PULLTITE I CAMPED MANY TIMES. IT IS 30 MILES FROM THE NEAREST TOWN. AT NITE AROUND THE CAMPSITE WE WOULD LISTEN TO THE LOUISIANA HAY-BACK RIDE RADIO AND OTHER FAR OFF COUNTRY STATION. THIS SONG WAS ONE WE LISTEN TO AND I LOVE THE RIVER AND THE LATE NITE COUNTRY MUSIC THAT PLAYED FROM FAR OFF DISTANT STATIONS.
Does anyone know what show this is taped from? We're working on a Charlie Louvin documentary and trying to source a lot of material at the moment. Much thanks in advance. Website for the film: louvinfilm (dot) com
Does any one rember the song that the Louvin Brothers had out called She's As Close As I Can Get To Loving You, George Jones sang it also but I rember the Louvin Brothers singing it. Thank you.
Rest in Peace, Charlie. You are one of the greats of country music and we'll not likely ever see your kind again. Yours was the era of originality and excellence.

So sorry to hear this morning that we lost him. I saw him play a show in Memphis just this past year. He did play this, as well as several Louvin Brothers' songs. His show didn't even start until after midnight. Tough old codger in his last year.

I'm an African American Male. I grew up on this recordings. My Dad was Bob Freeman "The Lonesome Stranger" He played a left handed guitar and knew Mr. Louvin. My Dad was one hell of singer. He passed away in '09. He never got a break in the business, but he sure loved his country music. He's passed that love on to me.
I kind of forgot about this video for a year. I thought I'd be stepping on some toes with that comment I made. Guess not. How about this- It's said to think Charlie Lovin wouldnt make it in todays country. He just doesnt have "the look". Picture him in a pearl button shit with the sleeves ripped off, cowboy hat hangin down over his eyes, rattle snake boots and tight jeans. Everyone now has to come in a marketable package. Singing talent is secondary. Singers just had more class back then.
I seen Charlie, in St.Louis, in 2007, he is a natural ! He's in his 80's, and still has it today ! He got emotional, on his song"Ira",& had to take a break. I had a ciggerette with him, and he's just, down to earth ! If you ever get the chance, go see him, while he's still among us ! Whether its at the Opry, or your homwetown. He's a Legend !
you want to see a great singer & country legend, then look up the schedule of charlie louvin, and go see him ! He's almost 84, and still has it, and he's just a natural, of course he's been at it a long time !
interesting little trivia here but that is Charlie's son "Sonny" standing right behind him, probably 17 at the time. Sonny is an entertainer following dad's footsteps in Nashville today and an excellent one at that
I love the Real country.I aint gonna mention any names but i think its a shame for Country music when a lot of singers these days call them selv Country singers when theyr nothing but Pop singers wearing Cowboy hats. Its a shame.
After listening to this I want to call the local FM country station and them they stink and haven't played a real country tune in 20+ years. Thank you much for posting. Awesome live performance
At last! I always loved this song by Charlie. I gave up on a video of HIM doing it being on You tube but just saw it today. It's as beautiful as it was years ago. Thanks for posting it.
Love this song. Interestingly, even tho I have always loved Charlie..and and Ira, too, when he was still with us, I did not stumble across this song until recently; downloaded in into my iPod. Now, I grab my Gibson and take a whack at it about every morning; even try the same guitar licks.
RIP Charlie you had an awesome career
