  • I've only used distilled water, but would be interested in knowing your results with linseed oil.

  • I just have become intersted in this and read something about using linseed oil in the water. Do you use only the distilled water?

    Carols

  • Hi All,

The paints that I used were Jacquard airbrush paints from Dharma Trading Co. Thank you for the comments!

  • can you tell us what kind of paints you're using?

  • what a fantastic job! amazing! are the paints used acrylics or oil based?

  • @moeesa i was wondering the same thing..i hope they answer..

  • @pheonixphire I very much doubt we'l find that our my friend :(

But with a little bit of research some other people have used oil paints to get this effect. and you apply alum on the fabric to make it absorb the colours. Hope that helps :)

  • @moeesa From some of the research I've done recently I've found that the oil based products work best. Regular water based acrylics will blend with the water rather than float on top. Hope this helps.

  • @ladyinnominate not so - the 'size' or liquid base is actually thickened with methyl cellulose or carageen powder and acrylic paints to about the consistency of milk float on the surface. Thinning the paint with distilled water or adding a dispersant helps control the amount of spread.

  • @1980chuck Thanks, that's good to know because I've been wanting to try this at home and so much of the information I've found is conflicting.

  • @ladyinnominate Dharma Trading (as Carolyn noted above) has all the supplies needed for marbling. I believe they have some tutorials and instructions, as well. Good luck! I fell in love with marbling on silk the first time I saw a video.

  • Good job.

  • Yes, plain distilled water.

  • Is that plain water?
