@The656 Liar. There is no tipping in Japan! You don't tip in a restaurant, a hotel, a cab - you just don't tip.
I caught you out, admit it. You made out tipping in Japan is normal practice when it isn't. There is more tipping in Europe than in Japan.
You're probably just another stupid fucking foreigner being extorted by people who don't give a shit about you. I can assure you that Japanese people don't tip Japanese people.
I'm a server at the Olive Garden. I only make $2.13 an hour - and every month my paycheck says $0. You wouldn't believe the jerks I deal with on a daily basis. But then there are those who tp extremely well. Whenever I go out to eat, no matter how good the service is, I never tip LESS than 20%. Seriously, if you can go out to eat and afford an $80 dinner, why can't you afford to tip? People are disguistingly cheap and do anything to save ONE DOLLAR (Now that's who I really feel bad for).
@famouschrissy why? the guy is right. you're already getting paid for your job. the reason you're not getting paid a lot is because it's an easy job. it's like me going to the butcher to get some beef and than tip him 20% for his service?
@franky1l It's ignorant people like you that will never understand. Fortunately, I am a very attentive, educated, and personable server - so I make very good money regardless of scumbags like you ;)
@famouschrissy still the idea of tiping is stupid. if they are unhappy with their earning they should get another job. there are lots of people having trouble paying their bills and all that stuff and they don't expect their costumers to give them extra money
@franky1l Like I said in my previous response, you are filled with ignorance. If you are having trouble paying your bills, why would you be dining out KNOWING you're receiving a service? I understand not tipping at a pizza joint, but at a restaurant - or even a fine dining restaurant? Come on now, it's simply called being cheap. When I dine out, I go all out - who actually enjoys water with a filet mignon? If I can afford a $30 + entree, than I can sure as hell afford to tip.
@famouschrissy no and i'm not from the US. but my point is why should we only give waitresses money. they're not the only ones that don't make a lot of money. why do they deserve it and others don't? if you go to a clothing store and one of the workers there has financial problems people don't just give her money
@franky1l Ah you're not even from the US - okay it all makes sense now! On the East Coast - it is known that if you're dining out at a restaurant, tipping is expected (15-20% for good service). Guests know we only get $2.13 an hour because we rely on tips. That's just how it works. And there are also other services that we tip for as well - such as hair dressers. Tipping is just a norm on the East Coast.
@famouschrissy "regardless of scumbags like you" and that is one of the problems with tipping. Don't get me wrong. I do tip if I get service about the server doing their job. However the mentality of some servers that a tip is mandatory regardless of service is BS. If you wage is low then take it up with the restaurant. I've had extremely bad service like taking 45mins to get a beer, half an hour to take my order, no refilling of water. Then I get a bad look because I didn't tip.
Unless it's some roadside cafe - all places have corporate standarts for waiter behavior. 40secs to bring back drinks, must smile, must check back and ask wether the meal/drinks were good, etc.

@The656 You fucking liar. Tipping is considering an insult in Japan! Japanese people consider it rude TO tip. If you tip them they consider it pretty fucking offensive.
If you lived in Japan you should know this, fuck knuckle. So not only do you live in a 3rd world shit hole, you're also a proven liar.
@z0mgrugbyreturns its considered rude to tip people and people dont do it. in big cities like tokyo and kyoto its more popular to see it where western culture and foreigners are seen often and it is rude. Im not going to argue with a man with dumb fallacies
@z0mgrugbyreturns People can tip anywhere. Does it make it OK everywhere? No. It's rude to do it in Japan and you can be seen as a snob because there is a humble factor here. In Japan you are suppose to tip under a few certain situations so yes tipping does happen. You know nothing about Japan culture and you probably never lived here so don't make assumptions and go with it like "japanese people tipping in a lie"
...delivery. When I rang the bell & I could hear it clearly even outside, it was loud. But no one answered so I knocked sorta hard hoping they'd hear & then this black lady comes from the room right next to the front door & starts in with this attitude like why you gunna break my door down why didnt u ring the bell. Then she calls me a liar when I said I did ring it, b/c she would of heard it. She heard it. She just wanted a pretend reason not to tip me. I mean how lame.
@mikedd56 In the UK nobody tips for pizza delivery, I've never even thought of it. Nor in a Pub, Bar, or in a Cafe. The only time people really tip is a restaurant. Taxi's are optional and most don't.
@ojideagu Cant say I disagree, but when its the social norm you cant get out of it w/o looking like a cheap skate b/c thats just the way it is here. That said I agree the UK way makes much more sense. I mean even I have to agree its ridiculous to tip a pizza man, its like tipping a mail man. Same with taxis. The only people I can think of that really deserve tips are waiters, b/c the quality of their work shows by their amount of effort
@mikedd56 Sure, that's our exact mentality here. Waiters and waitresses in restaurants are the norm for tipping. Cafe is a grey area, but far from expected.
Some minicabs (not black cabs) here try tricks to change the pre-agreed fee if they claim the distance is longer than expected. So I don't think anyone even bothers tipping them. Black London cabs if tips are ever given it's more a case of "keep the change" rather than any considered tip.
@ojideagu Yea funny you mention that about taxis, b/c I rarely use them but once I went to New Orleans with some friends & by the last night we were all convinced we'd been cheated a bunch. B/c every time we got in a cab they'd jack their meter up. It was like a 10-15min drive for something like $45 and its like fuck we're supposed to tip these assholes too. Still even at the most honest level taxis are a rip-off.
Tipping sorta annoys me sometimes but still I cant stand people who dont tip. I feel like it says a lot about someone who is too cheap to tip.
I remember hearing once that black people dont tip & I didnt think much of it but after working as a pizza delivery & as a waiter, holy shit I cant believe how fucking true that is. I mean like 90% of the time. I evened worked with 2 black waitresses & I would hear them complaining about it.
I remember this one time that stuck out. It was a pizza...
@mikedd56 Tipping seems so expected in the US, but here in the UK it's much more of choice. Generally you only tip when you want. A lot of people actually tip on Mr. Pink's grounds, although most people are at least a bit kinder than this. Do waiters/waitresses earn less than minimum wage in the US?
...if you are going to tip then you need to tip everyone not just people that you deem worthy...why do people feel obligated to tip a certain profession but not others?...dont you think that someone that makes 10,000 a year would appreciated your tips more than someone that makes 100,000 a year?...doesn't makes sense to me for people to be a selective tipper...just my two cents...
It's funny because he says "For The Birds", and he voices Randall in Monsters Inc, which includes a short called "For The Birds" on the VHS. I see what Pixar did there.
For the Birds is a general expression, as well as most of the Pixar shorts were made long before the films they featured in were made. So it may just be sheer coincidence. If not however, you may have just discovered the most well hidden little nod ever put onto film. Not bad.
Spot on auto tipping is bullshit, i still havent seen this movie im guessing you guys will tell me to watch it quick you all sound like you love it...
The restaurant most certainly does NOT make up for anything. If you have a shitty day, that's all folks, you have a shitty day. I don't know where you heard that nonsense. The hourly wage for servers is $2.35 per hour. The reasoning is that with tips you should make it at least up to minimum wage. I have worked 12 hour shifts and left with $60. Does that sound like minimum wage to you?
Most restaurants pay their staff UNDER minimum wage because they are expected to make it up with tips. If they don't, the restaurant has to make up the amount. It's a fucked up system, that's America for you. Don't act like some hardcore, ideological rebel by not tipping.
What AN AMAZING video looking nice & attractive.I LOVE YOUR STYLE OF DEVELOPING VIDEO.It is very informative for users and it's network program was superb.
@ghostbuster323 Customers shouldn't have to bridge that gap because the restaurant doesn't want to fork over a livable wage to their employees. It's a busted system.
Why would waitresses get tip just as they're doing a job no harder or more demanding in terms of formation than, say, a taxi driver or the guy who packs the groceries? They do a minimum salary job, they get their fucking minimum salary!
@Xello998 You're a moron. Waiters and waitresses LIVE off their tips. Most don't make much more than $2/hour and almost all of that disappears after taxes.
@FalseBuddha So I'm the bad guy because these establishments are too cheap to pay their employees after putting a 500% markup on my food? I'm the bad guy because the servant is stuck in a shit job? I'm not running a fucking charity. How does most of $2/h disappear after taxes when the tax bracket for low income is 10%? Do you know the definition of "most"?
@Xello998 You're not the bad guy, but you're definitely not a good guy, asshole. I'm not saying it's right I'm just saying that until it changes you are a colossal cock sucker if you don't tip.
@Xello998 You're not the bad guy, but you're definitely not a good guy, asshole. I'm not saying it's right I'm just saying that until it changes you are a colossal douche if you don't tip.
I live in the Netherlands and we've got a great way of giving tips: you get paid a bit more than minimum wage (depending, of course, if you are a waitress in a big fancy restaurant or in a small cafe) and people give tips if they want to. It is a bit rude not to leave a tip, but they don't make a fuss about it.
@ghostbuster323 That's halfway true. If service people make less than minimum wage with their salaries and tips combined, the employer has to make up for the differences.
also the idea that i should tip for quality service is crazy, quality service should come with the meal price, why else would i come to the restaraunt? for crap service? also, dont get mad at me when i order and dont tip based on "free delivery" lies. why lie? why not say tip is mandatory? it isnt and i have a choice, so become frustrated when i choose to save my money?
@iPray2God2 It sounds to me like you have never worked a job as a server (or even know people who have). You want to know why you're expected to leave a tip? Because these people don't even make minimum wage otherwise. They LIVE off their tips.
And you know what? They know who the good tippers are and they get treated like royalty. I often get free drinks and food at the restaurants and bars I frequent. I save more money being a good person than you do being a dick.
@FalseBuddha That's not my problem. Take it up with Congress or the Government. I'm not supporting the U.S government screwing over it's citizens by offsetting the price onto consumers. I don't support Tipping in any way or fashion unless someone goes way out of there way for me. Tipping is not an obligation, minimum wage is, they should fight for their rights to a minimum wage. U.S are people who feel entitled, why should I pay extra for good service? The business is supposed to provide that.
the logic behind tipping is ridicolous. why should i have to take extra out of my pocket because your boss under pays you? i dont tip my doctor so why should i tip you? because the doctor gets paid a lot? again thats between him and the hospital, not me. waiters should be fighting against restaraunts not me.
@iPray2God2 So go to your fucking congressman and complain there. Get the laws passed that say servers don't get shafted when it comes to wages. Meanwhile leave a goddamn tip.
Ps. Now of course, a waiter/waitress SHOULD get a tip if he/she goes above and beyond (and in that case, the tip should be given as cash, NOT included on the credit card (so that they can't be taxed on it)!
If a person is healthy enough to stand on their feet for hours and memorize oders, etc., then WHY CAN'T he or she find a better paying job (referring to our PAST economy, of course)? ALOT of people who go out to eat, are THEMSELVES, TOO sick (physically &/or mentally) to prepare their own meals, so WHY should it be the burden on the customers to tip, instead of having the employers pay them more, or instead of them feeling fine about their pay if they ACCEPTED the job in the first place?
I can say I would like to agree with pink but if she takes me out to the back and sucked on my phallus Id giver 20 bux for a tip it doesnt matter if I didnt get my cup of coffe filled 6 times or not id rather feel good about getting my dick sucked on XD
waitresses get paid approximately 2 - 3 dollars an hour, while mcdonald's employee's gets paid minimum wage which is approximately $7 ? I'm not exactly sure what that number is.
@xIegionx lol Mr.Pink had a good point mcdonalds serves your food too i guess the tip at mcdonalds is keep the change lol hes actully right it is bullshit dont tip these guys but tip these guys thats a good scene
@Tyem310 waitressing work is different than mcdonald's work...waitresses have to take orders...give refills...regularly ask how the meal is...sometimes serve multiple courses, salad, appetizers, drinks, entree, dessert...while mcdonalds workers just take the order and throw it in a bag...i do agree that automatically tipping someone just b/c they are a server, even if they do a shitty job, is a silly custom on many levels...but pink's comparison to a mcdonald's worker was a little bit off
Because at McDonalds you get paid minimum wage at a restaurant you get paid like 5$ an hour because u get tip from customers. i know because i worked both places.
I love this scene, this scene show just how great of an actor Steve Buscemi is, he is absolutely wonderful, after watching him in this scene he convinces you of what his saying even if it's something you've never question. Happy birthday Steve Buscemi, you are amazing
There job requires tipping though. Waitresses don't make minimum wage, because of tips employers are allowed to pay much less. $2.50 an hour here. You have to tip them, especially if you intend to eat there more than once and want good service and no spit in your food.
The majority do not work for the minority. I say down with the 'tipping' it is the biggest BS in American society. Professions that receives / expects / demands tips in return is a small fragment of the American workforce, why should we tip them for bringing food to our table? It is part of their JOB! Taxi drivers? Rip-off!!!!
Do not try to justify the importance of earning tips for people in this profession; they are a small percentage of the pie and do not deserve special treatment.
i know the waitresses and waiters need to tipped and I tip them very well even i f i don't like the service cause of this silly guilt that sitting behind my head LOL ....but this dude has a point society tell not to tip servers at Mc or any other fast food place but at restaurants ...good point
I usually tip very well. I used to be a waitress, and some people are freaking horrible.... I mean it is an ass busting job, and more often then not even when you think you're doing an awesome job, some people are never happy with the service they receive. However that being said... if the waitress is terrible i will not give her one red cent. If i'm eating dinner at a restaurant, and i have an empty glass for more than 10 minutes, she doesn't get a tip... thats inexcusable
@xXShrinkWrapXx very true. I've served and bartended for a number of years and I'd have to say that good service deserves good tips, but bad service does not necessarily deserve any tip. I have no problem not tipping at all if the service was bad but I usually tip lots (20-25%) if the service was good. If they're obviously slammed and very busy and the food or w/e takes longer thats somewhat forgivable, but if the waitress is dogfucking around or chatting then theres no excuse
@xXShrinkWrapXx You think waitressing is hard? heh, maybe don't get pregnant and drop out of school.
Furthermore, I know guys who do hard labor that makes waitressing look like a walk in the park, I don't tip unless the waiter/waitress is exceptional, Tarantino is right.
This scene foreshadows the rest of the movie. Mr. Pink is the skeptic, and Mr. White tells him he's full of shit. All while Mr. Orange sits next to Mr. White and doesn't say anything until the end and Nice Guy Eddie doesn't like what Orange says.
If you agree with this dudes stance than you're an idiot. Anytime I hand someone the bill and it's over $20, I expect at least $5.. if not, expect me to ignore you next time. How bout instead of me finding another job, you find another restaurant to dine at.
@jayporks If you expect a $5 tip on a $20 check then you better give me fucking amazing service... my glass should never be empty, and my food better be perfect. If you EXPECT a tip you better be the best server. people do NOT have to give a tip it is voluntary... do you even know what the word 'tip' stands for? it is an acronym for "To Insure Prompt" meaning, to make sure you give me fast service. If you expect a tip just because you're a server you're in the wrong business.
@memphetic Well then the server already has the money so wouldn't they then not have to bust their ass? the money is already in their pocket..... The tip is incentive to make sure they do their job. Sure it isnt right if the server did a stellar job and gets shafted... thats not cool. However if they did bare minimum work, then they are not really entitled in my opinion. But people have different opinions on this matter, as we see in this clip.
@xXShrinkWrapXx I don't work in a dumpy diner these clowns are at. I work at a classy Italian place. Conservative Republicans with thick pockets frequent the place. I notice this and say something to the effect of "Damn that Obama".. and BAM.. there's you're 20% tip..
Well sometimes I can make up to 150 a night so its better than minimum wage lol but on slow days you get bumbed out knowing you only make 2 dollars an hour
He's wrong because waiters don't make minimum wage they only make like 2 an hour. If they paid them minimum wage that would be awesome . I'm a waiter so I'm kinda biased pub well we can tell who doesn't tip and they get what they deserve.
... I can see that Mr. Pink is real and he really thinks like that, but all this people are just trying to get attention acting like him... Or they are just greedy losers that wont even guve away a dollar bcz they think "u dont deserv it", should be embarased acting like a bump in front of all the other people eating there
Hahaha this is lame, everybody arguing about the tipping and its coplexity hahaha i never tought that a tip would give a lot to talk anou but well... I can see that Mr. Pink has a good point, a good reason to tip and he explain that so well that can convince anyone... But I still tip bcz, well thats what u do on a dinner, and also that wouldnt hurt me cuz thanks to my work I dont need a couple of bucks that bad...
The moral complexities of tipping, then five minutes later knocking over banks, they're torturing cops in warehouses and shooting people in the head.... this scene probably should have been written out of the script.
@degree7 One of Tarantino's trademarks is the juxtaposition of the mundane and the bizarre. This scene is perfect, even if Mr. Pink's argument is wrong.
Well I guess it makes sense if you think of them as "educated crooks". They adhere to minor social norms, but wouldn't bat an eyelid about shooting you over a cache of stolen diamonds. I guess that's why they call it "organized crime".
Although why is Mr. Pink so wrong? You got like, what, 6-7 guys tipping this waitress, why are they busting his balls about not tipping if he doesn't want to, she's already got a pretty big bonus. I think Mr. Pink's got a point.
@degree7 I was´nt being ironic. I really DO like that scene because it is so typical for Tarrantino point out these little ironies in morality and to put normality into the extremes. I think this scene is hillarious for that reason and a stroke of pure genious.
Im no lawyer but i do know that after 9/11 tampering with somebodys mail or food is quite the federal crime i believe its called "assault with a biological agent" (lol) aka "food tampering"
Fine, then ill just hop resturants forever and never tip,i pay the bill, thats what matters,so im obviously not THAT cheap,i dont mind not coming back, nobodys service is THAT good :)
After reading some of these comments i cant stop myself from laughing...yeah its a brilliant idea to not tip someone that is working hard and depends on tips.
..well here is a little tip for all the assholes out there- Dont fuck with the people that are handling your food. sure youll get away with it the first time..but you sure as hell better not go back to that restaurant.
Just like the saying goes-fool me once shame on you, fool me twice...haha hope you enjoyed your meal asshole
@100lithium Restaurants should just raise the price for the food, pay the waitresses more, and then make tipping ACTUALLY optional.
You pay the same, and the waitresses get paid decent wages....so simple. If waitress works hard they keep a good stable job, if not fire her. Works for every other job out there.
Fuck you dog i don't have no tip to give ya i'm already busy with all this pasta falling out of my jeans goddammit it's a fucking mess auuugh

...delivery. I mean how lame.
mikedd56 2 weeks ago
@mikedd56 In the UK nobody tips for pizza delivery, I've never even thought of it. Nor in a Pub, Bar, or in a Cafe. The only time people really tip is a restaurant. Taxi's are optional and most don't.
ojideagu 2 weeks ago
@ojideagu Cant say I disagree, but when its the social norm you cant get out of it w/o looking like a cheap skate b/c thats just the way it is here. That said I agree the UK way makes much more sense. I mean even I have to agree its ridiculous to tip a pizza man, its like tipping a mail man. Same with taxis. The only people I can think of that really deserve tips are waiters, b/c the quality of their work shows by their amount of effort
mikedd56 2 weeks ago
@mikedd56 Sure, that's our exact mentality here. Waiters and waitresses in restaurants are the norm for tipping. Cafe is a grey area, but far from expected.
Some minicabs (not black cabs) here try tricks to change the pre-agreed fee if they claim the distance is longer than expected. So I don't think anyone even bothers tipping them. Black London cabs if tips are ever given it's more a case of "keep the change" rather than any considered tip.
ojideagu 2 weeks ago
@ojideagu Yea funny you mention that about taxis, b/c I rarely use them but once I went to New Orleans with some friends & by the last night we were all convinced we'd been cheated a bunch. B/c every time we got in a cab they'd jack their meter up. It was like a 10-15min drive for something like $45 and its like fuck we're supposed to tip these assholes too. Still even at the most honest level taxis are a rip-off.
mikedd56 2 weeks ago
Tipping sorta annoys me sometimes but still I cant stand people who dont tip. I feel like it says a lot about someone who is too cheap to tip.
I remember hearing once that black people dont tip & I didnt think much of it but after working as a pizza delivery & as a waiter, holy shit I cant believe how fucking true that is. I mean like 90% of the time. I evened worked with 2 black waitresses & I would hear them complaining about it.
I remember this one time that stuck out. It was a pizza...
mikedd56 2 weeks ago
@mikedd56 Tipping seems so expected in the US, but here in the UK it's much more of choice. Generally you only tip when you want. A lot of people actually tip on Mr. Pink's grounds, although most people are at least a bit kinder than this. Do waiters/waitresses earn less than minimum wage in the US?

For the Birds is a general expression, as well as most of the Pixar shorts were made long before the films they featured in were made. So it may just be sheer coincidence. If not however, you may have just discovered the most well hidden little nod ever put onto film. Not bad.

Moonchylde210 3 weeks ago
Most restaurants pay their staff UNDER minimum wage because they are expected to make it up with tips. If they don't, the restaurant has to make up the amount. It's a fucked up system, that's America for you. Don't act like some hardcore, ideological rebel by not tipping.

@stonesourbonez20 No. The people hiring the waitresses should make minimum wage by law, but minimum wage the law doesn't apply to them.
The law should change to encompass waitresses. I feel people should not be obligated to bail out waitresses because their bosses are cheap fuckers.

PippaTSF 4 weeks ago
Waiters and waitresses actually make less than minimun. Thats why you tip
ghostbuster323 1 month ago

FalseBuddha 4 weeks ago
@FalseBuddha That's not my problem. Take it up with Congress or the Government. I'm not supporting the U.S government screwing over it's citizens by offsetting the price onto consumers. I don't support Tipping in any way or fashion unless someone goes way out of there way for me. Tipping is not an obligation, minimum wage is, they should fight for their rights to a minimum wage. U.S are people who feel entitled, why should I pay extra for good service? The business is supposed to provide that.

The majority do not work for the minority. I say down with the 'tipping' it is the biggest BS in American society. Professions that receives / expects / demands tips in return is a small fragment of the American workforce, why should we tip them for bringing food to our table? It is part of their JOB! Taxi drivers? Rip-off!!!!
Do not try to justify the importance of earning tips for people in this profession; they are a small percentage of the pie and do not deserve special treatment.

I usually tip very well. I used to be a waitress, and some people are freaking horrible.... I mean it is an ass busting job, and more often then not even when you think you're doing an awesome job, some people are never happy with the service they receive. However that being said... if the waitress is terrible i will not give her one red cent. If i'm eating dinner at a restaurant, and i have an empty glass for more than 10 minutes, she doesn't get a tip... thats inexcusable
xXShrinkWrapXx 2 months ago
@xXShrinkWrapXx very true. I've served and bartended for a number of years and I'd have to say that good service deserves good tips, but bad service does not necessarily deserve any tip. I have no problem not tipping at all if the service was bad but I usually tip lots (20-25%) if the service was good. If they're obviously slammed and very busy and the food or w/e takes longer thats somewhat forgivable, but if the waitress is dogfucking around or chatting then theres no excuse
Heaugerkerkerk1 1 month ago
@xXShrinkWrapXx You think waitressing is hard? heh, maybe don't get pregnant and drop out of school.

But people have different opinions on this matter, as we see in this clip.

Although why is Mr. Pink so wrong? You got like, what, 6-7 guys tipping this waitress, why are they busting his balls about not tipping if he doesn't want to, she's already got a pretty big bonus. I think Mr. Pink's got a point.
