  • todays athletes would destroy these guys, especially the slow white ones and the fat ones of either color...

  • its always fun to see these 70's videos so i can laugh my ass off at all the old farts crying and whining and talking all their old fart bullshitabout how good it was then and bad it is today-HAHAHAHA! suuuure...sucks being old huh guys?

  • Hey The Browns were good!

  • The part where all the helmets appear, up until this season the first helmet was always the Oakland Raiders. MNF changed it to the Steelers since they won the Super Bowl. I prefered seeing the Raider logo appear first. They were not my team, but there was something about those Oakland teams in that era.

  • Back when football was still real, not like the steroid filled showoffs that we have today.

  • I remember this intro very well. All the team helmets filling the screen, followed by the two team helmets playing that night. Fun times.

  • Why better than Hank Williams theme

  • back when MNF was relevant

  • back when football uniforms had sleeves. with proper stripes

  • @TheWheels777 That's right. Nowadays, they might as well just play in tank tops. They're most of the way there anyway. There was a time when the NFL was very concerned about their image, and cutoff sleeves would not have been allowed. But now we have so many 'roid boys flexing their muscles for the cameras like a bunch of egotistical bastards. Football has lost its class.

  • @TheWheels777 Agreed. Football uniforms back then were like classical music elegant. Today, the uniforms are like rap: in you face and loud. Uniforms today are really ugly.

  • The first 20 seconds is actually a preview of Windows 8.

  • The Dolphins and Oilers played each other several times in the late 70s

  • Awesome! This was when being on MNF was such an event. Thanks for posting.

  • This was a great game

  • This is when Houston HAD a football team. Not like the Texans!!! Luv ya Blue!!!

  • Turn out lights the party's over

  • Where the fuck is the Lions logo in this opening?

  • @moedanyou it's on the left side of the screen, second row from the bottom in a red box

  • Thanks.

  • The Orange Bowl was something special. The energy was unbelievable. Miss it!

  • Tirico is no Gifford or Michaels! He's so gotta go!!!!!!

  • this song sucks compared too today

  • Does anyone have this whole game they can post? I would love to see it!

  • Wow. To now imagine how back then you didn't have all those cute and potent editing and graphics applications we have today... From 0:43 to 0:58... that might have been edited by HAND... EVERY FRAME... ouch... the green from the field could easily be eliminated with the technology available then, but they still had to black out the rest of the frames' backgrounds...

  • Has over 300 + games on dvd quality of the games back in 70's 80's 90's 7 to 9 love watching those old school games... has access to them online alot of super bowls playoffs and classic games, regular including college, mlb, nba,nhl etc

  • SO long Don, football hasn't been the same with you. Go bless hope you're playing for the All God team.

  • BTW, big thanks for posting this, made my day and my day sucked.

  • Damn this brings back some memories, especially the Lowenbrau. RIP Dandy Don. My favorite intro, even before Hank Williams Jr. MNF was a BIG DEAL back then, nowadays, it's a sick joke.

  • RIP Dandy Don

  • this was bigger than life when your a young boy.

  • Back when I was younger watching this during the original broadcasts, my favorite part of the intro was when all of the teams' helmets gradually appeared starting at 0:29 along with the great music. Man...Monday Night Football was so exciting back then!! It just gives me goose bumps seeing this again for the first time in many years and thinking about how great it really was.

  • by far my favorite intro for monday night football, miss this like i miss the 70's.

  • The Oilers came away with a 9-6 win in this game.

  • This was 1979 not the epic Earl Campbell game in the Astrodome in 1978. Oilers still won though.

  • @ 0:21 take tape.

  • @musicguy550 - I get your point and it is a good one. I'd also add that the NFL and not the broadcasters so much are responsible for in your face charitible organizations. During the MNF broadcasts up to and including the Michaels, Gifford and Dierdorf era, it was the United Way that was promoted during commercials by the NFL. Although the NFL still promotes the United Way, it never got near the exposure that breast cancer awareness receives. As a United Way donor, this has really annoyed me.

  • I remember this game when I was a kid. Earl was amazing in this game. Hard to believe it was 31 years ago!

  • I am 39, this is a MNF intro I remeber.

  • Earl kicked ass man

  • ya Earl kicked ass man

  • This theme I remember. What ever happened to the adage 'keep it simple, stupid'? There was a sense of relaxed excitement about MNF in those days. A lot of people must tire of us 40 plus guys saying how much better it was. That's just the nostalgia talking I think. You have to admit, the openers for MNF since the 90s have become very garish and overload your sense with a lot of nonsense. Yet today's stuff will probably become the good old days in the future.

  • Wow! That opening sequence really takes me back.

  • the good ole days

  • Pretty good opening for a game especially for the Late 70's

  • repeat of the 1978 meeting they had at the Astrodome

  • This was a classic game..Earl Campbell ran for 199 yds. on this night!

  • @depaolajr Your thinking of the 1978 game in the astrodome. This was a pretty boring game Oilers 9 Dolphins 6. But ur rite, that 1978 game was a classic. : p

  • @depaolajr by the way, couldn't help notice ur handle on here. my last name is depaola also, if thats what urs means. Weird, never see anybody with that name ever. bdog

  • I think the pregame show was more entertaning than the game

  • MAN,.....the opening was just PURE MAGIC!! I VIVIDLY remember feeling "sky high" as this intro would play!! I mean,....there was such a MAGICAL almost fantasy like aspect to MNF back then. It was almost like it was about something other then football because of how,...I dont know,.....how exciting and SPECIAL MNF was back then! Again,...that intro was what was so special and good about it!

  • Ahhh the late 70's....

  • I know this is stupid but I got goosebumps when I saw this lol.

  • This is before they became the Tennessee Titans in 1999.

  • I agree. Monday night football is horrible now. Cosell, Merideth and Gifford. As good as it gets

  • @rd062080

No its not, Gruden, trico,Jaws are some of the best commentary I have ever heard. MNF is amazing

  • Totally agree. These guys are faster and stronger, but overall not better. And ESPN should be ashamed of themselves for the shit they put on the air now.

  • @rd062080 Hey! I was there and Dandy Don was NOT!!! He hated Houston!!!

  • back when Monday Night Football was a big deal, not the joke that it is today.

  • @crcracker1 : Yep, Roger Goodell has completely pussified the league to the point I am no longer the big time fan I was back in my younger days.

  • @JoeGriego1 That's why he needs to go bye bye and get someone that will end all the **** that has made the NFL look horrible now a days.

  • Yeah, those were the days! Yeah man! Go Oilers!

Do you have rest of the game?

  • tennessee titans great team ever better than the oilers

  • Uh, not exactly. True, the Titans reached the Super Bowl which the Oilers never did. But YouTube the Oilers homecoming in the late seventies when the Oilers TWICE lost the AFC championship games against the Steelers and were STILL met by adoring crowds of 50000 + people at the Astrodome upon their homecoming. The Titans have a long way to go to equal that type of bond.

  • it was the same team just different location and name.....just like the LA-Oakland-LA raiders etc

  • As far as I'm concerned, it's the same team. The Titans will always be the Oilers to me. Want proof? Once they got to the Super Bowl, what happened? They came up ONE YARD SHORT. Classic Oilers! Always breaking our hearts, but God bless 'em, we loved 'em anyway.

  • @ratmaslove

    ahh not really

  • @blacksabbath21641 yes they were titans rock oilers never really did

  • Some of you may be old enough, like me, to be fortunate enough to have absorbed this rich history. I was first turned onto Monday Night Football in 1976 when I was eleven. I don't watch it to much these day's. Life changes and we move on I guess. However, there was nothing more exciting than viewing in to listen to Howard Cosell & Company on ABC's Monday Night Football! The Best Ever!

  • definitely very old school.. the Oilers are now the Titans right?

  • Yes. They are now known as the Tennessee Titans.

  • Turn out the lights. The party's over

  • who won this game? i don't remember.

  • The Oilers did. The Dolphins were Houston's bitch back then

  • i remember the game the year before at the astrodome when earl campbell ran wild. my team was the oilers and my brother's team was the dolphins. so naturally, i had bragging rights.

  • uh, no. miami wins the next 3 in a row and since this loss, they go 11-6 including up to this years loss. Check the history. As for houston, very talented, but could never get over the steelers hurdle every year, always got bitch slapped by them in the playoffs. Too bad, Bum was cool and campbell was really awesome back then, very underrated player. bdog

  • @09rockmusic Your attempt at portraying Houston as dominant is just a wee bit overblown, there, Professor. The Dolphins actually took three of the first six games from the Oilers when Miami was a mere expansion team. This video intro led to a game in which the Oilers won by the whopping score of 9-6, hardly a steamroll performance. Dolphins-Oilers was a great rivalry, but neither team has ever enjoyed dominance over the other. Miami now narrowly leads the series with Houston/Tennessee, 17-15.

  • @09rockmusic They were. And Houston was Pittsburgh's bitch as well (along with the Raiders bitch).

  • @09rockmusic DOLPHINS WERE HOUSTON'S BITCH? ARE YOU HIGH OR RETARDED?

  • @DoesNotExist305

It's true. Houston was 4-1 versus Miami during Bum Phillips' tenure.

  • @MntrTodd Don Shula > Bum Phillips

  • @09rockmusic the Dolphins are still Houstons bitch.. 0-6

  • @revlooshin The Oilers won, this was the game rookie Earl Campbell ran for 201 yards and 4 touchdowns and became a household name, including Earl's famous 80 yard + touchdown down the sideline which is in all his highlight reels.

  • The Oilers might have won this game also, but the game you're thinking of was November 20, 1978 at the Astrodome. Look up "Earl Campbell's 81-yard TD run" here on YouTube and you'll find it. Cosell even refers to that game at the beginning of this one. Look at it again and you'll see what I mean. By the way, LUV YA BLUE!!!

  • @revlooshin Houston Oilers 9 Miami Dolphins 6

  • Back in the days when football was football !

  • totally awesome!!! btw he's nuts

  • @MadisonRvrGurl1 More cushion for the pushin ' !

  • @MadisonRvrGurl1 I wanna peak!

  • @MadisonRvrGurl1

    I think you're a spamming whore. How's that?

  • November 5, 1979

  • it is the 79 season,, ur probably thinking of the 78 season game in houston where campbell went nuts. bdog

  • the best announcers! True

  • lowenbrau

  • "Here's to good friends, tonight is kind of special..."
