  • GNOME 3 ROCKS. I'm tired of bullshit classic Windows imitations. GNOME team actually did some serious and competent design work and gave us this superb software, and now using Windows feels weird and clunky to me. Linux is a PLEASURE to use now, and I don't have to give up my lovely command line either. Rock solid foundation and functionality. I hope to see developers of other applications integrating with this interface, because the results can be truly sweet.

  • It isn't that funny if you understand german <.<

  • This sucks if you're german...:D

  • Gnome3 is amazing

  • LOL @ "All important X-eyes applet"

  • haha, at first I was like "not another gnome3 rant...", but then it got really interesting =3

  • Fantastic genuis!

  • I like Gnome3 :D

  • This is FRIGGIN HILARIOUS...

  • This is GREEEAT!!!

  • He calls them Nazis! LOL

  • looool. funniest part was when dat girl was crying n she was told "you can still use fallback mode". hillarious!

  • Hahaha! I recently attended a big free software conference, and no one, not even the Gnome developers had anything even REMOTELY positive to say about Gnome 3. It's sutch utter crap that my garbage bin blushes, so full of shit it makes my suage system jealous... I'm truly baffeled how anything like Gnome 3 and Unity ever came into existance. If they made it as a smartphone VERSION, i might be less suprized, but as a PC desktop environment? Ludacris. Xfce here i come!

  • @CalyptratusTZM Microsoft did it as well with vista, let's not forget. The definitely _most_ user unfrendly OS ever made. Everything else, even GNOME3 or Unity is better than vista. And Ubuntu is still free, windows costs money.

I agree though I think GNOME2 is perfect, and I don't see any reason to change it for the desk top. Better spent some time fixing bugs instead. Make it faster and less memory consuming. That would have fitted my only needs with GNOME.

  • @MsPwain Not only is Ubuntu free, but all other Linux distros are too, some of which have been around a lot longer than Ubuntu.

  • @sullivan912 I know... but Ubuntu is one of the few distros which could appeal to the usual windows or mac user.

  • my exact reaction when i woke up, turned on my laptop, and gnome 3 was installed by an automatic update

  • I had to mute the video, because i cant concentrate on the english subtitles, when they are speaking some bullshit in german ( iam german)

  • @xXUsEr313131Xx hahahahaha that's so funny X'D That's because you understand both languages haha For someone who doesn't understand German it's legit and great X'D

  • @KingGR no shit sherlock xD

  • 3:13 rocks! Of all things he is worried about clocks

  • Gnome 3 and Unity are unusable for me. the developers must take in mind that functionality is just as important as flashy 'Mac OS' Appearances

  • HAha. Nice point, but sounds wrong... "Freedom" coming from Hitler :S

  • Less preference is good. Newbies don't get confused, they get a okay desktop that work without trouble. And us, programmers and experimented users still get to use gconf-editor and edit the config file. I don't see the problem... oh, you mean you are a newbie that can't use gconf? Well why do you care about preference anyway. I am sure someone will make a easy script that will install and setup the matrix xscreensaver on your root window so you can continue to look like a real hacker.

  • @newtubetubetube I don't completely agree. Many people switch to Linux because the desktop environments are extremely easy to customize - but Gnome 3 is not.

Anyway, it is probably easier to install xfce and piece together a new environment from that (installing compiz, alternative panels, etc) than to try to do it all from Gnome 3.

But obviously gconf-editor cannot be used for that.

  • OMG this is so boring like all the other Hitler subtitlings - because I am a native German speaker and so I understand everything and it kind of overrides the undertitles I read... -_-° But sometimes I still need to smile. :D

  • @lihamakaroniperunaso LOL. This is one of the rare case where knowing more spoil the fun. :)

  • "But sir, you said the same things when gnome2 was released"

    Priceless!

And I kinda like gnome3, to be honest. I didn't try it, but the previews of gnome 3.2 really made me want to try it.

  • Gnome 3 is the product of:

    1. Sacrificing Gnome HIG to satisfy people migrating from OSX/Windows at the expense of existing principles. If you dare argue for HIG and accessibility, they accuse you of being against change.

    2. They want some written from scratch shell to fight off Ubuntu by paving the way for Gnome OS.

  • Ha! This is good.....

  • "Not to mention the all-important XEyes GNOME applet" hahahah

  • This is a **pro**-GNOME Shell video. If you haven't disliked it you're simply a Stallmanist retard that actually likes GNOME 3 (how is that possible). You can fuck off to Mount Everest!

  • Well, Hitler and i share the same point of view!! O_o

  • The final word from Der Fuhrer says it all ;)

  • GNOME 3 is a tablet like mac wannabe android app filled abomination!

  • GNOME Shell may not be very customisble yet, but come on, it's just the first release. The full support for themes and GNOME Shell extensions is probably to be implemented in the following release. I like the look GNOME Shell and am looking forward to the these new features. It just takes some time for the new UI to fully evolve. KDE 4 is the most customisable DE now but remember when KDE4 was released and was considered utter crap by many, now it's very nice, stable and efficient.

  • @Isamu715 This is true. I remember everyone saying they'd stick with 3.5 but now they all love 4.6

  • I use KDE, Gnome 2.6 and Gnome 3 all on different distros, and Gnome 3 is cool! Okay, it's not very customisable, but I still enjoy using it. Things can only get better, like the song goes lol

  • ok first off going into gnome classic mode makes it look and act just like gnome 2 and second off gnome 3 as far as i know is still incomplete

  • i like Gnome shell. that's why now i left ubuntu and am using opensuse. but i agree with some of hitlers points.

  • Oh my I had a good laugh! Was just reading some gnome 3 "reviews" (really confusing stuff out there), before luckily stumbled here. I have only to say this: gnome 3 works better for me on my laptop than any other desktop before, love to do my work with it!

  • The problem for me as a german is: i can understand wat hes realy saying so the subtitles arnt funny anymore :/

  • Comment removed

  • @V1TAS

    Oh, that's... kinda sad actually.

Like watching orangina commercials if you speak french.

  • In reality, both the Win 95 paradigm that Gnome *was* imitating, AND the OS X paradigm that Gnome now *is* is imitating, are of course utter shit.

And @noobtards: don’t mod me down just because you haven’t got the mental capacity to imagine something *way* better. Hint: VIM-style power and OS-X-style simplicity are NOT mutually exclusive. There’s a little concept called “emergence” that lets you have them both at the same time.

  • I seriously said the same things when I first tried Gnome 3. XD

  • Look! It's just like Torvalds!

  • @X3MLinux

I hear he's actually kind of a KDE fanboy. What does he like about KDE?

  • @dfr343 no, not a KDE fanboy, he prefer gtk-based desktops. Actually he's using xfce.

  • I really like GNOME3 and this video.

  • Downfall's Law > Godwin's Law

  • Funny vid, but I switched to XFCE anyway. GNOME3 really is a big step back.

  • 0:18 -> 1:10

    very very fun!!

    "those freedom hater nazis!" lol!!!!

  • bad translation!!!

  • 9 people don't like GNOME 3

  • @csaavedra 9 people LIKE Gnome 3. This video is all about hating it xD I totally agree with "Hitler".

  • @Ubuntu3011 Am I strange if I find GNOME2 "good enough"? And if I rather want good apps than more shiny things on the WM?

What's so good about GNOME3/Shell if there are no apps to run for it? Where is for example the good and EASY TO USE video editor?

  • @MsPwain Gnome 2 apps work fine in Gnome 3.

As for video editors, check out Kdenlive, Kino, LiVES, Kdenlive is probably the easiest of those.

  • @totakeke I think I was trying to be ironic, but it didn't work that well :) My point is - spent your time on making apps, not on the OS itself. That is, maybe I rather want a working KDENlive with more functions - than I want a GNOME3/Shell. Last time I used KDENlive it had bugs. And I do not like the UI - here OpenShot is much better. So spent your time on making the apps better & fixing bugs rather than on the OS. Don't fix the OS, when it ain't broken.

  • @Ubuntu3011 Sorry I answered you it hould have been a generel answer to the video instead.

  • It's only funny if you don't know German. Still, it's a pretty good description of how users think who have been using GNOME 2 since 1991. About time people moved on.

  • Hahahahhaha!!!!

  • pretty spot on about gnome3.

  • It sounds wrong, I know, but I feel sympathetic with that guy Hitler there.

  • Ah. The universal humorous criticism of everything strikes again.

  • Getting defensive now?

  • I say you don't know how the Hitler reaction meme works.

  • Hilarious

  • Hilarious! I do find it sad at times that lots of people get so accustomed to one specific DE set up, then refuse to spend some time getting used to anything else. I've used GNOME 2, GNOME Shell and Unity, and GNOME Shell is still my favorite. :)
