i knew the eye patch one ahead of time. it's easy to do at home, too! at night, close one eye for a while, then turn off the lights. notice how you cannot see. then open your closed eye. like they said, it's like night and day
What they did wasn't to capsize a boat but rather to walk a boat into a pool while holding it over their heads, to see if there would be an air pocket that would allow them to walk across the ocean floor out to a ship undetected (as Depp did in the movie). The problem was that even though it was upside down, the boat was too buoyant to sink! So they were just left handing onto it while it floated on the surface, lol.
they found out that you would have to have about 2000 pounds strapped around you just to hold it down, they tried it with about the same amount of weight as a pirate would have on his belt counting the gold and the weapons (30 pounds) but that didn't work, and if you had 1 ton of weight around your hips you wouldnt be able to stand and the boat pulls up so hard it would rip your arms out of socket, the best thing to do is just float above the water so they just thinks it a runaway bot lol
this isn't just a pirate myth ^^ it's a handy trick. try this the next time you're walking in a dark house at night. close one eye before you turn a light on (or open the fridge door). keep it closed. then, once the light is off again. open the eye! pretty awesome effect. you'll see how bad your night vision is to start with ;)
