Creepy how the devil has gone and tied so many of the people around Morgan together. Hint there that Maya was who Ash was feeding on when Vampire Hunter GHB tried to do his thing.
@humanistheart I don't remember all the details, but his mom (and another woman - a reporter, I think?) were sucked into Hell when they realized (or were told) what Morgan really was (which happens to anyone who finds out Pym's true job). The "outside event" was that they died in a car crash (kind of tough to put "sucked into Hell" on an accident report, I guess). Then the aunt got custody, and the two tried to make a life together.
Those are the bare bones, but that's the gist of it.
@humanistheart The aunt met Maya when she went to go find Morgan to find out what Gabe's mother (Jerri Slate) was so obsessed about. Maya was in his apartment eating his food (as usual :P ) and she opened the door. They met up again after Jerri died in The Mother episode and have been getting closer since.

Maya was replaced in Season 2 episode 1 when she killed herself with an overdose.
