@ejp420 Skyline GTR coupe was first produced in 1971. 2nd came after one year. What he meant was since its first production it was a rival to porsches. However, he mentioned twin turbo porsches from that era. Twin Turbo was put first in 1993 on 911s. He obviously made a mistake there.
Nice car, but way too much big brothers on board. the more I read on the electronic controls, the more I wonder just how much driving the driver is actually doing?
I want to know how does Nissan build such a car at 70grand? They have their best tech in this car. Or are they willing to take the hit just to say they built a cheaper and better car than their rivals? I don't think the price is going to stay this low for long.
The only place the 911 has beaten the gtr is in the 1/4 and top speed but just by a smidge.
there has not been 1 test from anyone that I know of with EQUAL drivers where the 911turbo has posted a faster time around the race track. Don't think it will beat the new ZR1 but the average driver may be faster with the GTR unless you have the skill to get everything the vette has to offer. The Turbo 911 is probably the nicest to drive cross country at high rates of speed and may get ya laid.
What a Joke, if you know anything about road or track racing, you can't go as fast drifting as if you take the turns correctly - like he does. Any time you drift (friction) you slow down, it's pure physics. And to top it all off, you think he's killing the tires?!? What do you think drifting does? Give them more life?? hahaha
@jpsandberg Interestingly enough, there is only one all brands modified production car race. The winner was an MG and as for the footage went that car drifted its tail pretty much in every corner and as the documentary narrators comments confirmed that it passed Porsches Ferraris and all. Yes, what you say is correct in theory however this theory is proven wrong at least once in practice.
@Fussinated That proves nothing. You are ignoring one big factor in your example - WEIGHT. An MG weighs a LOT less than the rest of those cars you listed, so yes, it's going to run the track faster. Sure, it may have 'drifted' while doing so, but would have surely been beaten by another MG that wasn't drifting. You're comparing apples to oranges, and your point has very little 'point'. Compare exact same cars with equal skilled drivers and the drifter will most likely lose every time.
Well, it proves one thing I speak out of a real incident, you speak out of a theory. A lot of ifs and buts. You speak of same car being dirven by equally skilled drivers. This means the car will be driven the same way pretty much everytime.
Also I said that what you say is correct in theory, yet there is always an exception.
And, I suggest that you should calm down we are simply talking. I just said that what you say is not true all the time,
@Fussinated Are u really this dense? Have you ever taken a physics class or raced on a real road course in your life? I have. I speak from experience, not 'theory' like yourself
Bottom line - drifting causes friction, this is why it is slower. Maybe 'more fun' to some, but not as fast as if you take a turn correctly. That's why all race car drivers almost never drift, unless by accident
And what u are saying about the MG is no different than me saying an vette will beat a pinto at the track.
@Fussinated On another note, I am perfectly calm. You're not my father I don''t need your condescending tones. 'Specailly if you say we are just 'talking'.
What I am saying is true in the real world and is governed by laws of physics. Your 'example' does not prove the point that drifting is faster, or easier on the tires as thedaredevilhi is suggesting. All it proves is a lighter car can beat a heavier car, but doesn't prove drifing beats correct driving unless you compare apples to apples.
@jpsandberg "Bottom line - drifting causes friction, this is why it is slower. Maybe 'more fun' to some, but not as fast as if you take a turn correctly. That's why all race car drivers almost never drift, unless by accident"
See, this is not true. Drifting causes to lose traction causing the to be thrown away from the optimum tarjectory ending up losing time as well as speed. That's the theory. However if one can drift the car in a way to compansate this effect it is possible >
@Fussinated "Drifting causes to lose traction causing the to be thrown away from the optimum trajectory ending up losing time as well as speed"
thanks for proving my point. Abd somehow you still think it can still be faster? sorry, no amount of drivers skill can offset the laws of physics, regardless how many times u say it 'could be possible'. maybe in an alternate universe that defies laws of physics it could happen, but not in this reality.
@jpsandberg And you never answered my question: Have you EVER taken a physics class or EVER raced on a real road course in your life? I have. I speak directly from personal experience, not some 'theory' or some clip I watch of an MG, or the words of one narrator on said clip.
@jpsandberg "you can't, so, you have no leg to stand on, yet there you are, still wobbling around like you do. Really, it's pointless, you're obviously only here to argue."
It is you who is trying to argue I am not. I am simply stating facts. "Show me, this show me that, prove it etc" this is your approach. I fyou were smart enough instead of bickering you would start a serious research and really learn about physics.
@jpsandberg "On another note, I am perfectly calm. You're not my father I don''t need your condescending tones. 'Specailly if you say we are just 'talking'."
Well, I don't think I need to be your father to tell you to calm down, however, have it your way, it was a firendly suggestion, I am not responsible from you anyway.
@jpsandberg > not to lose time and speed, in theory. Since drift means to lose traction it's harder to adjust and maintain and adjsut speed. Therefore at best each time you drift you have at least one more variable to adjust. This makes driving more complicated and more difficult.
"And what u are saying about the MG is no different than me saying an vette will beat a pinto at the track"
No, not even close. What I am saying is the an MG beat (already happened) a vette as well as many others
@jpsandberg "All it proves is a lighter car can beat a heavier car, but doesn't prove drifing beats correct driving unless you compare apples to apples"
No, as I suggested, for every rule there is an exception. When the conditions satisfied drifting might well be an advantage.I will remind you again, I already stated that what you said about not drifting is correct, in theory. That is why drivers apply this technique widely.
Why are you desperately trying to defend as if I'm opposing you?
@Fussinated I'm not defending anything. I'm talking about laws of physics, you're talking about a single isolated case that proves nothing about the merits of drifting being 'faster' or 'easier on tires' as was the discussion. show the clip of this MG beating those cars. show me that the car is stock and that it won BECAUSE of drifting. you can't, so, you have no leg to stand on, yet there you are, still wobbling around like you do. Really, it's pointless, you're obviously only here to argue.
@jpsandberg "I'm not defending anything. I'm talking about laws of physics"
No you're not.
"you're talking about a single isolated case that proves nothing about the merits of drifting being 'faster' or 'easier on tires' as was the discussion."
Where did I defend such an idea please quote me.
"show the clip of this MG beating those cars. show me that the car is stock and that it won BECAUSE of drifting."
Why not? Explain why someone can't win a race due to drifting?
yea f the r8 the porsche 911 turbo the gt2 and the vette i have my respects for them but sorry theres a new sherif in town and he's wearing the red emblom (however u spell it) not to mention the v spec!

sorry, not true. The first time out it got 726, and that car doesnt exist, do some research, I love how there is always a newer gtr out thats faster, sorry.
One things for sure... this thing will be fast, fun and a bargain. It's not the hottest looking car (until you mod it up) and it's doesn't have the best interior quality (unless you pimp my ride)... but none the less it'll be as reliable as any other super car.
Nissan was given some rules by CEO... bring back the GT-R by keeping it under $70k and it must be profitable.
Imagine if they spent enough to make it an $120k car like the 911.
one guy said something similar, "...cars are for granny, real men ride horses"
TOP GEAR´s Jeremy Clarkson has 3 reviews of the GTR: his blog at timeonline site, topgear site and TG mag march08.
His own words:
"..I dare say that if Michael Schumacher were to find himself in the eye of an Arctic blizzard, escaping from an exploding volcano, he might discover 10% of this car's abilities. But you? Me? Here? Forget it. Nissan, then, has done something odd.."
hey i'm sure that F1 bolids only have 2 pedals, so there are no place for mistakes, no need of extra worry when you are on the limits and the machine know himself better than you. my first car was manual and now i have cvt( god bless that, i am not a granny) and nissan shift at .2s, are you faster?
Come on. You know Jezza isn't consistent on his view on the GT-R. When he went to Japan,he loved it so much. In his Thriller documentary,he hated it. His blog,a bit of both. I don't trust his reviews. Great entertainment, but if I want to get true to the heart opinions,I'll read from a more serious person/journalist.
BTW an RX7 or a Toyota Supra's value is irrelevant expecially with a blown motor. It all depend on the location, the year, orinality (matching numbers), the demand, condition, and how bad someone wants the car. I do understand your point though, but im sure people will be taking out house loans to buy this car...lol. So there already going to be upside down like 40 or 50 grand as soon as they drive it off the lot. Like I said before it's all in the eye of the boholder.
I think this topic is a pretty good debate...Everyone has the right to there opnion, but I just dont beleive in Nissan building a quality product. I had a very bad experience when I bought my Nissan Titan in 04. I've had Nissans in the past, and had tons of issues with them. Motors are great but everything else sucks IMO.
Who is they... the biased media. Im saying wait until someone real actually ownes one for a while, or the car gets released to the public to buy. You cant tell the reliabilty of this car just because they tested it for a couple days around the track. I have nothing against the new GT-R. I actually like it. I would say that about any newer model car. Usually when something newer hits the road you find out all its quirks. I hope it does well. Remember all the problems the Nissan Titan had.
Besides like I said the GT-R will sell for way more that 70,000 dollars. Its called delearship mark-up along with the price and demand. So in the end you mines well get the Porche. Unless of course the GT-R is your dream car and you loaded and dont care either way.
Its kind of like buying a Modified Evo, and calling it a supercar because its quicker than some Farraries on the track, and the 1/4mile. Even a hardcore import guy will tell you that. Its the quality not the price that matters to people with that kind of money.
You clearly just dont get it... buy your Porshe and quit spamming Nissan videos please. Oh, and if you think the depreciation rates on new Porshe's and the cost of repair is anything approaching a Nissan or the average Nissan mechanic rates/parts please show me your source. Any new Ferrari depreciates about 20-40 pct when the odometer reads 1 mile (my father owns 3). But that 20-40 pct is anywhere from 35-80k dollars. Do the math. Or.. and heres a novel idea.. wait a year and buy one used.
My Point is just what you said...people with that kind of money to spend on a car want quality and a brand name to match it. The Porche will hold its value much better. Also have you ever talked to a Porche owner, thats like trying to get a Chevy guy to buy a Mustang over a Corvette. Both cars are very nice and very fast, but im just saying wait until this car is around for a while to compare the G-TR to the high end supercars.
Also remember when they said the new Shelby GT500 was only going to be like 45,000 dollars then you go to the dealership and there would be red ropes around it...lol. Then you look at the price tag and laugh some more at the 80,000 dollar price tag. I bet the same thing will happen with this car. So nobody get excited about how much they down play the price so much. I bet you wont see this car for less then the cost of a new 2009 ZR1 Corvette. (My Dream car next to the Shelby GT500KR)
word on the street is its getting as high as $100,000. pretty crazy. i'll wait ten years when the price drops to $30,000 for a used one. like how fans of the NSX waited ten years to get a 1993 Acura NSX for 32 grand. haha.
Find me a used RX-7 with 100k miles and a blown up engine for less that 25k (0pct depreciation), or a Supra in the same condition for the same price. Not saying this car will hold it's value, in fact I am sure it will not, but a 70 pct drop in price from a limited produced car is extreme.
i can find you a pretty solid TT RX-7 for 22 grand. and i said wait 10 years. heck, if i have to wait 15 years, i will. the Honda NSX was a limited production car wasnt it? you can find a '93 NSX for around 30 grand or so. i'm sure in 10-15 years, the '08 GTR will drop to about 35-40 grands.
I would take a Porche anyday over a Nissan GT-R. In the end you only have a Nissan. Just because the performance is about the same I bet the quality of a hand built Porche is leaps and bounds over the GT-R. Evrything from the interior to the motor. Remember this car is somewhat new and no one knows the reliability issues the new GT-R may have. Porche, Farrari, Lambo, And the Corvette have proven themselves already. So I guess only time will tell. But on the other hand the GT-R is a beast.
Again, you fail to recognize the finer point of having "just a Nissan." I live in a city where labor cost on "just a Nissan" is 55 an hour. Porche? 115. My buddy has a Lotus Elise that he traded his Porche in for (not a daily driver) because a basic oil change would cost in excess of 350 dollars at a porche dealer (which he had to go to in order to keep the warranty), whereas the lotus costs 35-50 dollars at the local toyota dealer. There is no mystery here.
i turned the volume down so i didnt have to hear this guy scream through the whole video. besides arnt luxury cars supposed to be quiet inside regardless of power?
Seriously anyone can buy a porsche these days all u do is take out a loan rofls and really they all look the same LOL, so like its preety anoying when u see sumone pull up in a porsche, and u rarely see anyone in a gtr, and if u do its like OHH BRO FULLY SICK, porsche= meh, and now that nissan released this its like GWHEGAWHEDGAU! i bet u porsche cant do that. anyways if ur gona get a luxary car y buy a gay porsche buy something a little better than something that a 'cheap' nissan can beat lols
about the Porsche 911 Turbo at 1:30 - "i dont know how many people are gonna spend $50,000 dollars on a car that's probably slower, doesn't handle as well, doesn't have the response, etc... as the Nissan".
Well, those who buy a Porsche are those who cant stand the fact that a "cheap" Nissan is better than their luxurious Porsche dream machine. Yes, they are Loosers, haha
did he say the turbo doesn't have response like the GTR? i'll agree that the GTR is faster than the 911 turbo, but the turbo has about 450 pound feet of torque at 2000rpm. the GTR only has 440 at 3200rpm. he's a little of on that comment
I would of waited to get this car, but its geared more towards speed without the luxury. I wanted luxury and speed as well as all-wheel drive thus the reason why I bought the Audi RS4 and love the commute to school everyday!
Right, not same league as to speed, but class is the RS4 all the way. Go to a nice restaurant and you'll be better noticed as apposed to driving a GT-R.
Sure I do admit that the GT-R is an astounding car, but as far as class and luxury goes...its european all the way.
I think it was dubbed my an Australian car magazine as 'Godzilla' in 91'. But who cares huh?! Amazing car, lightning fast.. but I'm a liker of all cars... RS4, Z06, Turbo 911 and GTR all great cars for what they are.
Maybe I misheard, but Charlie implies that the Skyline GT-R was beating up on the 911 Turbo back in 1971. The 911 Turbo didn't exist until 1975.

hey i'm sure that F1 bolids only have 2 pedals, so there are no place for mistakes, no need of extra worry when you are on the limits and the machine know himself better than you. my first car was manual and now i have cvt( god bless that, i am not a granny) and nissan shift at .2s, are you faster?
luminaxster 3 years ago

Fasttws6 3 years ago
I think this topic is a pretty good debate...Everyone has the right to there opnion, but I just dont beleive in Nissan building a quality product. I had a very bad experience when I bought my Nissan Titan in 04. I've had Nissans in the past, and had tons of issues with them. Motors are great but everything else sucks IMO.
Fasttws6 3 years ago
Im almost willing to bet labor, and replacing parts on the GT-R will be very expensive also.
Fasttws6 3 years ago
Who is they... the biased media. Im saying wait until someone real actually ownes one for a while, or the car gets released to the public to buy. You cant tell the reliabilty of this car just because they tested it for a couple days around the track. I have nothing against the new GT-R. I actually like it. I would say that about any newer model car. Usually when something newer hits the road you find out all its quirks. I hope it does well. Remember all the problems the Nissan Titan had.
Fasttws6 3 years ago
this car is getting amazing unbiased reviews google it
davidradz 3 years ago
Besides like I said the GT-R will sell for way more that 70,000 dollars. Its called delearship mark-up along with the price and demand. So in the end you mines well get the Porche. Unless of course the GT-R is your dream car and you loaded and dont care either way.
Fasttws6 3 years ago
Its kind of like buying a Modified Evo, and calling it a supercar because its quicker than some Farraries on the track, and the 1/4mile. Even a hardcore import guy will tell you that. Its the quality not the price that matters to people with that kind of money.
Fasttws6 3 years ago
You clearly just dont get it... buy your Porshe and quit spamming Nissan videos please. Oh, and if you think the depreciation rates on new Porshe's and the cost of repair is anything approaching a Nissan or the average Nissan mechanic rates/parts please show me your source. Any new Ferrari depreciates about 20-40 pct when the odometer reads 1 mile (my father owns 3). But that 20-40 pct is anywhere from 35-80k dollars. Do the math. Or.. and heres a novel idea.. wait a year and buy one used.
faggator 3 years ago
My Point is just what you said...people with that kind of money to spend on a car want quality and a brand name to match it. The Porche will hold its value much better. Also have you ever talked to a Porche owner, thats like trying to get a Chevy guy to buy a Mustang over a Corvette. Both cars are very nice and very fast, but im just saying wait until this car is around for a while to compare the G-TR to the high end supercars.
Fasttws6 3 years ago
omg man .. theyve tested this thing everywhere in the world and it proved it self, and you are still waiting?
pavcon 3 years ago
You're idea of depreciation is seriously flawed. Clearly you dont know anyone who has bought a new porche or any new high end car.
faggator 3 years ago
Also remember when they said the new Shelby GT500 was only going to be like 45,000 dollars then you go to the dealership and there would be red ropes around it...lol. Then you look at the price tag and laugh some more at the 80,000 dollar price tag. I bet the same thing will happen with this car. So nobody get excited about how much they down play the price so much. I bet you wont see this car for less then the cost of a new 2009 ZR1 Corvette. (My Dream car next to the Shelby GT500KR)
Fasttws6 3 years ago
word on the street is its getting as high as $100,000. pretty crazy. i'll wait ten years when the price drops to $30,000 for a used one. like how fans of the NSX waited ten years to get a 1993 Acura NSX for 32 grand. haha.
VpY22 3 years ago
Find me a used RX-7 with 100k miles and a blown up engine for less that 25k (0pct depreciation), or a Supra in the same condition for the same price. Not saying this car will hold it's value, in fact I am sure it will not, but a 70 pct drop in price from a limited produced car is extreme.
faggator 3 years ago
i can find you a pretty solid TT RX-7 for 22 grand. and i said wait 10 years. heck, if i have to wait 15 years, i will. the Honda NSX was a limited production car wasnt it? you can find a '93 NSX for around 30 grand or so. i'm sure in 10-15 years, the '08 GTR will drop to about 35-40 grands.
VpY22 3 years ago
I would take a Porche anyday over a Nissan GT-R. In the end you only have a Nissan. Just because the performance is about the same I bet the quality of a hand built Porche is leaps and bounds over the GT-R. Evrything from the interior to the motor. Remember this car is somewhat new and no one knows the reliability issues the new GT-R may have. Porche, Farrari, Lambo, And the Corvette have proven themselves already. So I guess only time will tell. But on the other hand the GT-R is a beast.
Fasttws6 3 years ago
"in the end you only have a Nissan." and your point is??????
they could've thrown an Infinit badge on this car and call it a luxury as it is.
VpY22 3 years ago
Again, you fail to recognize the finer point of having "just a Nissan." I live in a city where labor cost on "just a Nissan" is 55 an hour. Porche? 115. My buddy has a Lotus Elise that he traded his Porche in for (not a daily driver) because a basic oil change would cost in excess of 350 dollars at a porche dealer (which he had to go to in order to keep the warranty), whereas the lotus costs 35-50 dollars at the local toyota dealer. There is no mystery here.

about the Porsche 911 Turbo at 1:30 - "i dont know how many people are gonna spend $50,000 dollars on a car that's probably slower, doesn't handle as well, doesn't have the response, etc... as the Nissan".

I wanted luxury and speed as well as all-wheel drive thus the reason why I bought the Audi RS4 and love the commute to school everyday!
mchamp3802 3 years ago
It does have luxury. More than most supercars. The RS4 is not in the same league.
kyskyline 3 years ago
Right, not same league as to speed, but class is the RS4 all the way. Go to a nice restaurant and you'll be better noticed as apposed to driving a GT-R.
Sure I do admit that the GT-R is an astounding car, but as far as class and luxury goes...its european all the way.
