@vexed334 The 04 Pistons broke a ton of all time NBA records. They might be the greatest defenisve team of all time. Numbers suppport that. Boston had more star power but they weren't Detroit. Plus they faced a much stronger Laker team, and beat them much easier. That's probably the biggest upset in Finals history, 8 to 1 odds, nobody slept on The Celtics.

The celtics beat the pistons to get to the finals. Rip Hamilton was a poor mans ray allen, sheed was a poor mans kg, and prince... well, was far inferior to pierce. 08 celtics would have beaten that 04 lakers team too.

Also, can u name the "ton or all time records" that the 04 pistons broke?

@Ivanchuckk Lowest Points Per Game Against in the Shot Clock Era (84.3). They held 6 straight teams under 70 points, also an NBA Record. They held the Nets to 56 points in a playoff game. That Laker team (with 4 hall of famers) averaged 98 points a game in the regular season, the Pistons held them to 75.

2008 Celtics: PPG 100.5 (11th out of 30) Opponent PPG: 90.3 (2nd out of 30) Def Rtg: 98.9 (1st out of 30)

So they were both great defensive teams, Detroit slightly better defensively. However, they didn't have a clutch, go to scorer, and sometimes were abbysmal on offense, while the Celtics could light you up if they had to. Clearly, 08 Celtics> 04 Pistons

@Ivanchuckk That's not true. Rip Hamilton was clutch, and thats back when Chauncey was dubbed Mr Big Shot. Rip averaged 30 in the finals, and outscored Shaq/Kobe combined in game 3. And comparing them statistically is pointless because the game changed. Defense is different. The NBA eliminated hand checking after the 04 season, the pace of the of the game has changed along with the physicality.

@IxCLuTcHxI Yes, they had players who hit big shots, but i mean they didnt have anyone who could create their own shots off the dribble when the offense broke down. Rip lived off screens, tayshaun really couldn't shoot, and billups was a good shooter but his game wasnt really driving to the bucket. They really floundered around sometimes when the their offense was out of sinc

@Ivanchuckk Well Chauncey actually was force attacking the rim back in those days, when he was aggressive. Didn't do it much past 2006. Yes they were a bad offensive team, but I don't see why that matters. The fact they won in 2004 shows how offense doesn't factor into who's a better team. The team that always wins is the one that defends the best.

@IxCLuTcHxI They locked up and shut down Kobe and Shaq in their primes. They would have problems with Garnett, Allen, and Pierce? All 3 of them into their 30's and past their prime? All 3 of them combined, at that stage of their careers, are not the same force that a 28 year old Kobe/31 year Old Shaq were.

@Ivanchuckk No, that isn't true. Ben Wallace wasn't there. And those guys were 5 years older. Sheed was in his prime in 2004, so was Rip and Chauncey had his best season. Ben Wallace was in his prime in 04 and was one of the best defenders off all time. Same names but years removed from their prime.

@IxCLuTcHxI lol yeah well the big 3 were past their prime, too. look i love that 04 pistons team, i love how they tore apart the lakers, im just a lifelong celtics fan, so im biased. I think they would have repeated in 09 and '10 if it wasnt for injuries (garnett, perkins). The pistons never repeated because they were prone to spurts of offensive futility which reallly hurt them against the spurs and heat. They were still a defensive force but couldn't get buckets when they really needed them

I remember when EVERYBODY thought the Pistons was gonna get slaughtered. And the opposite happened. Everybody was looking stupid. And Joe Dumars is a idiot for trading Chauncey. After that trade the Pistons began to fall off. They need to attempt to get Chauncey, Hamilton, Prince, Ben Wallace, and Rasheed Wallace to reunite. Those 5 ran the East.
