you dont have to become a vegetarian just cause food animals are mistreated, they have to die anyway for us to eat them but of course they dont have to suffer, so i prefer the animals to be raised well on a normal family type farm, and then when slaughter time comes they should be quickly killed, by a gunshot, a cut accross the arteries in the neck, or something that will kitll it quickly with out suffering.

I hate factory farming. This is why my dad and I don't eat red meat and try not to eat other factory farmed meat. I just drank some Soy dairy-free milk along with my cereal. I am now going to eat more veggie burgers and other vegan foods. Factory Farms suck !!!

Look up and watch Food Inc. It's a great documentary about the food industry. There is one particular eccentric farmer who I loved. He raises grass fed cattle, the way cows are supposed to live. It saves fuel, becaue you don't have to harvest or transport hay, it saves money, because you don't have to buy hay, and the cows do their own fertilizing. He raises happy, healthy pigs and chickens too. It's great!

I dont know why people wont spare a few more pennys just to get free range eggs. Free range egga actually taste better, bigger yokes in them. Thats because they chicken is happy and healthy, so she produces better eggs!

I don't think the solution is to stop eating meat, but to appreciate where everything comes from, to value lives of others, respecting our planet and everything it offers by supporting sustainability and farms that treat their animals well. If you think you are superior to an animal, prove it by making a moral decision not to live on a diet that creates unnecessary suffering for living beings. Plant based diets are more resource efficient too, so food production isn't a problem.
I eat meat because I don't have a problem with killing animals. I think that aspect is a normal part of our lives. However, factory farms are just pure evil. The idea that a living animal is treated the same way as a plastic toy coming off of a conveyor belt is repugnant. You can go vegetarian if you want, that's your choice. But if you do eat meat, you have to come to terms with the fact that you'll need to eat less, and that you MUST buy from small, local farms. There is no other choice.
I'm a hog buyer and those videos are from the 80's and the industry is no longer like that. we get checked monthy by big name buyers like mcdonalds, hardees, BK and so on plus we have USDA on sight constanly. Plus if we atempt to kill an animal and we dont kill it the first time, we are fired on the spot. and we are not allowed to use electric prods. If any truck driver is caught being inhumane when unloading animals they are banned from coming to ANY company plant. that video is outdated.
We need a massive international effort to research how to synthesize proteins without breeding whole animals. From personal experience, meat raised on a family farm, be it pork, beef, or poultry, tastes better than that from a grocery store. It probably has something to do with the stress in the lives of these animals. I know its not feasible for everyone, but it is something to think about.

I eat vegan burgers that are shaped like a meat burger ... thats funny i never thought about it ... i think it helped with the transitions .. i can only speak for myself . and it fits on the bun LOL.. it makes it easier to add to recipes that would otherwise call for meat ... tastes great ...

the reason that farms have grown in size is b/c the profit margins that we farmers have to deal with have gotten so small. when you are only talking about making 15-$20/ hog in the good times how do you expect to make a living. Would you try to live on a few thousand dollars a year. times and margins have pushed farms to become concentraited to basically become efficient. No decent farm operates with the conditions that you see in these movies. It has to be staged or seriouly dramaticised.

"gestation" crates or farrowing crates are for the protection of the piglets. If they were allowed in a small pen area, the sow would sit on them, crush and eat them. Not very pleasant. The crates are large enough for mom to lay down in as well.

if you so eat meat its ok, its just the animals shouldnt suffer its even proven that if the animal was happy and fed well and allowed to be itself, its tastes better if you get meat from these places they show it tastes horrible full of fat and all sorts of stuff you wouldnt normally see in meat, Im just a jumper one year I will eat meat the next I dont I cant decide personally

Look up and watch Food Inc. It's a great documentary about the food industry. There is one particular eccentric farmer who I loved. He raises grass fed cattle, the way cows are supposed to live. It saves fuel, becaue you don't have to harvest or transport hay, it saves money, because you don't have to buy hay, and the cows do their own fertilizing. He raises happy, healthy pigs and chickens too. It's great!

If this didn't make you vegan try watching Earthlings. I don't think the solution is to stop eating meat, but to appreciate where everything comes from, to value lives of others, respecting our planet and everything it offers by supporting sustainability and farms that treat their animals well. Meat even tastes better when the animal is healthy and well respected. *Don't waste food! I think of it this way, an animal gives its life, the least you could do is to eat it and utilize everything.

If you think you are superior to an animal, prove it by making a moral decision not to live on a diet that creates unnecessary suffering for living beings. Plant based diets are more resource efficient too, so food production isn't a problem.

I eat meat because I don't have a problem with killing animals. I think that aspect is a normal part of our lives. However, factory farms are just pure evil. The idea that a living animal is treated the same way as a plastic toy coming off of a conveyor belt is repugnant. You can go vegetarian if you want, that's your choice. But if you do eat meat, you have to come to terms with the fact that you'll need to eat less, and that you MUST buy from small, local farms. There is no other choice.

I'm a hog buyer and those videos are from the 80's and the industry is no longer like that. we get checked monthy by big name buyers like mcdonalds, hardees, BK and so on plus we have USDA on sight constanly. Plus if we atempt to kill an animal and we dont kill it the first time, we are fired on the spot. and we are not allowed to use electric prods. If any truck driver is caught being inhumane when unloading animals they are banned from coming to ANY company plant. that video is outdated.

We need a massive international effort to research how to synthesize proteins without breeding whole animals. That is the most practical biotechnological problem of our age, not some mamby-pamby yap-fest about god-vs-no-god that does absolutely NOTHING useful for society. Simultaneously, we need to outlaw breeding animals NOW. People can change their diet until we get the biotech to work.

And for starvig people, it would be better if we were all vegetarians, since veggies takes less resources than meat. 10kg veggies gives 1kg meat.. I'd rather give the other 9 kg veggies to starving people. But do you know how much food is rotting away because we won't share?

From personal experience, meat raised on a family farm, be it pork, beef, or poultry, tastes better than that from a grocery store. It probably has something to do with the stress in the lives of these animals. I know its not feasible for everyone, but it is something to think about.
And if people choose not to eat meat, why do they try to make their non-meat product look and taste like meat? Just curious.

I eat vegan burgers that are shaped like a meat burger ... thats funny i never thought about it ... i think it helped with the transitions .. i can only speak for myself . and it fits on the bun LOL.. it makes it easier to add to recipes that would otherwise call for meat ... tastes great ...

the reason that farms have grown in size is b/c the profit margins that we farmers have to deal with have gotten so small. when you are only talking about making 15-$20/ hog in the good times how do you expect to make a living. Would you try to live on a few thousand dollars a year. times and margins have pushed farms to become concentraited to basically become efficient. No decent farm operates with the conditions that you see in these movies. It has to be staged or seriouly dramaticised.

"gestation" crates or farrowing crates are for the protection of the piglets. If they were allowed in a small pen area, the sow would sit on them, crush and eat them. Not very pleasant. The crates are large enough for mom to lay down in as well.
If all meat is to be pasture-fed, is the HS going to provide the space that the government has taken away / bought from farmers who can't afford it? The housing developments are taking the animal's roaming space.

I love meat, and I completely agree with their slaughter for consumption. I am also Christian, and I believe God gave us these animals to survive. In the garden every being lived in peace, but after the fall of man, we were banished and forced to fend for ourselves in the fields. I believe God provided the animals so we could survive.

after reviewing this, as of 2009 I am going to do my part and not put meat in my cart at the supermarket. I am going vegitarian. I did not know to this extent how animals were being done. I had an idea, but no mental detail. These poor animals do not deserve this. And we as people feast in delight in eating these meats not knowing that these animals suffered and was tortured.
