There were two native species of elephants in TN until 11,000 years ago, which is pretty recent ecologically speaking. Do any paleobiologist ever come to your sanctuary to study the way the sanctuary's elephants interact with the landscape for clues to how mammoths may have fit into the ecosystem?
Just wanted to say good luck scott! Oh I love when you talk about all the "little things" in the updates...I want to know everything and anything and its so exciting read the updates, I love reading about where they wonder off too and the treats! its not trivial at all to me :)
@veggiewarriors The Sanctuary uses only licensed stock music, and it is fortunate that there are many talented composers out there who lend their libraries for use in videos, television and films.
Its nice to know that Tarra and co. (R.I.P Lottie) are still living the good life. I'm planning on taking a trip to Hohenwald sometime during the summer and volunteer.
Hi scary i saw cnn then i saw the webcam message , In like a emergency like a tornado do they just come back on their own? Also if you do have to get them back in a hurry how would you do that ? Would they follow you back on the 4 wheeler? They would know you are telling to come back to the barn in a hurry? Well OK be safe.
@sohcsarewicked During storms the elephants choose where they want to be. Most prefer to take cover in the woods. At the Sanctuary we do not "hurry" an elephant--she chooses her own pace. If caregivers want to encourage an elephant to come back to the barn (i.e. freezing temps in forecast) or lead them to another pasture, they will usually willingly follow a 4-wheeler with treats.
I love these videos! I proudly donate money to The Elephant Sanctuary every month and these videos let me know about the happiness I'm helping contribute to. It's a really great feeling to help these noble creatures.
Just had yet another look at this delightful video and thought, there's so much to love here. These sweet girls are just huge bundles of love. Bless their dear hearts. Long may they live in peace and dignity at TES.
Our dear Lizzie is not looking so good here... I hope her TB treatments progress and she feels better. She is my favorite, along with Frieda and Billie.
It is so good to see Dulary. I am glad she is happy and she has a nice big pool to splash in and that she and Misty are getting along so well. Thank you for taking such good care of her. (But I still wish she had never been sent away from the Philadelphia Zoo!) Happy New Year and I hope 2011 will be a good year for everyone there, including all the elephants.
Thank you TES for sharing these magnificent and beautiful girls with the rest of the world. It's such a privilege to be able to be part of their lives, albeit by video.
May 2011 be kind to all at the sanctuary, carers and elephants alike. Bless you.
@equarg We currently have 14 elephants living at the Sanctuary, with enough barn space to provide housing for at least 25 elephants. The Sanctuary would be able to care for 100 elephants on the current 2,700 acres, with additional barn space added.
I wish I could work with you guys with the elephants, elephants are so cool and very adorable. You guys take care of those elephants so much they really love it there!
I am VERY happy to see Flora. I loved the tv special & I hope she is doing well.

Funny how whenever Tarra appears in one of your videos, the little dog Bella can always be seen scampering around nearby if you look for her!
