@XxIluvParrotsxX Any parrot. See my video of Duke the Budgie doing the bat trick. Just some tricks are easier or harder depending on the parrot. For example Bat, Wave, and Fetch are very hard to teach a Cockatiel/Budgie but Target, Turn Around, and go through tube are easier.
Wow!!! I have a Sennie, too, and I've trained her to do a few tricks but nothing like what you've done with Kili. How did you teach her the "Bang!" trick? Did you start by clicking and treating when she happened to roll over onto her back of her own accord (which I know my Evie like to do quite frequently) or did you somehow use small approximations to get her to roll over on command?
Hi. I am really considering a senegal. I have had small birds but I really am in love with the medium size parrots. I love the senegals but I was wondering if you would recommend a cockatiel or a senegal?????
That's some great stuff and a bird able to fly adds a bit of excitement to the show. You must have some remarkable patience, although it almost looks like the result of an afternoon's work, you must ave put in dozens of hours training all of those behaviors.
how can you teach your bird to come to you? My bird is always getting distracted and flying up to the curtains, also, what do you feed kili to do the tricks because kili is larger than my bird and mine is a small budgie

@duncandonutsert They say African Grey Parrots are the smartest but hey, who knows? It depends how you define intelligence and on what criteria you compare it.
African greys are the best talkers and mimics, but Senegals are staggeringly intelligent and interpret body language amazingly.
My female (Hercules - she was bought as a male) can tell when I'm preparing to go out and imitates the burglar alarm setting. She knows when I'm preparing to go to bed (and she has to go into her cage) because she won't step up as normal, but distracts me by putting her head down for a scratch. And she rings her bell to ask for a treat.
@MrHistorian123 Sure, parrots become really good at imitating whatever they find to be routine. It's not necessarily intelligence though. They may not understand it or the consequence but just be imitating for the sake of it. Of course the Alex studies proved this otherwise for Grey parrots but this doesn't necessarily prove that Senegals are on the same level.
The stimulus doesn't have to be routine. I can prepare to go out or go to bed in a huge variety of different ways and she always produces the appropriate response. I've tried to fool her (and I have a lot of professional experience in Psychology in setting tests) and she never fails to select the appropriate action.
She responds at a much higher level than, say Pavlov's dogs. She is also amazing at solving puzzles to get food. None of my other birds are nearly as intelligent.
@MrHistorian123 What makes you so sure that you're the stimulus? The bird may have a sense of time and know it's time for bed. My duo gets antsy come 9PM cause they know it's time for their dinner and then bed. Furthermore your behavior pre-bed may cue them off. I know when cuing my parrots tricks that too many times to be purely coincidental I have thought of the next trick I want without yet saying it and they will jump on it and do it. I don't think they read minds, but face..
can your PLEASE tell me how to train a parrot to fetch, to put the ring on a stick, to do the puzzle, to put the coins in the piggy bank and to play basketball? will you please please please tell me how to teach my parrot to do these tricks i dont have money to buy any dvds. please tell me how to train them these tricks listed above?
Well let's see. It's only written ten times on this page. Twice in the title alone... Oh and "more info" mentions twenty five times that it is a she. Incredible reading comprehension skills.
Your bird is amazing! I wish my bird could do those tricks! But, now that she has Arthritis (I think that's the correct spelling?) there is no point in teaching her... :[
How did you teach Kili to come to your hand when called? And, I have a training area that I train my bird Logan at, but he will just fly away from me to his cage in the other room. How do I fix this?
I am very very impressed.. I have a Cockatiel and he's just turned 4 Month old and is talking already... but i`m gonna try to teach him a few tricks lol :) Way to go!!!
Thanks Rita. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Honestly, I am totally amazed she does all this. Seriously, I'll look at the video and be like "WOW! I can't believe my parrot could be this smart!" I don't want to sound like I'm conceited or anything but honestly I think it's the best trick trained parrot I've ever seen at this point (and I'm always checking youtube for cool parrot tricks) but I give all the credit to Kili for working with me. She's an amazing bird and I love her so much.
Can you teach any parrot do those tricks? Or.....only Senegal parrots?
because........................my tiel doesn't want to do bat trick.
