  • Cnt believe i never saw this, dang, wish i knew about atn foreal back then and wish i had a heads up, Never seen a csx ace & This is just rare for atn, I hope that happens again soon! Good spots, especially crossing the NS, I bet they fly through their, Great horn on that lovely ace too!

  • @JgordonAmtrak1 Thanks Jeff! It was really neat to come around the corner and see those engines sitting there.

  • thumbs up and favorite

  • I caught the run-through CSX units backing across Hwy 77 on the way to the feed mill about 6 months ago, so this happens periodically.

At the time the crossing signals were not working, so they had a flagman-not too impressed with ATN's maintance of this line(leased from CSX)

  • @WhoSaidTyler Absolutely right on the maintenance aspect. It's scary, really, how degraded the tracks are in many areas. I think Guntersville is the worst, but it has some stiff competition.

I know CSX dumped this line due, largely, to the fact that it needed so much work. In particular are the bridges on the North slope of the mountain near Guntersville.

  • Great catch! We need more ATN action.

  • @jackieman402 Thanks! I am working on some new ATN stuff. I just wish I were going to have more free time this summer. :-(

  • Very beautiful continuation of shots. Congratulations. 5*

  • Thank you.

  • Now I am really mad the grain train didnt make it to BHam Friday! LOL

  • LOL :-)

  • outstanding video great catch with that SD70ACe 5***** and favorite

  • Thank you!

  • Awesome CSX SD70ACe, not to mention the SD9043MAC!!! Totally 5*****!

  • Thanks! Yeah I was pleasantly surprised! :-)

  • good video. I like the far off shot

  • Thanks!

  • If anyone is wondering why the engineer didn't blow for the crossing at 5:24, it is because it has been, apparently, abandoned. Once leading to a farmer's field, the sign posted above the "to report an accident.." sign is to notify that the crossing would be removed as of 6/2008 unless the railroad was notified. The crossing remains today, but apparently not the whistle post for it.

  • @BamaRailfan

So the ATN runs mostly at nite?

  • Not exactly. I'm not sure what the scheduling is for the southern portions of the line, but up my way there are 2 jobs that run through. M715 and M716, M715 runs ti Guntersville pretty much daily M-F, and M716 is the nightly run that makes the turn in Albertville.

  • @BamaRailfan

And CSX only has 20 of the 70ACe's.
