I love these German streamliner locomotives! This is a good clip, clear, if sound not perfect.... Since you posted the video originally - has the loco been inspected or repaired, or is it even viewed as a static exhibit now?
maximum speed (licensed by German Federal Railway Authority) 150 km/h
after the second world war, the cleading was dismantled, and all 01.10 locomotives (54 exemplars) got a high duty boiler by Henschel in Kassel (in 1954-1956). In 1972 this loco was rejected.
The city ´´Bebra´´ (a railway junction) was buy this loco as memorial. After 22 Years, an investor from Austria was giving a lot of money to restore it.
the locomotive has two outer cylinders like any other steam locomotive and one inner cylinder (that one can´t see) that usually drives the third axle.
@F650Rcr When boilers were able to raise steam at higher pressures engineers built engines in which the steam gets into the first, smallest cylinder and expands there, driving the piston down, but is then led into a bigger cylinder where it expands further on and even into a third or fourth cylinder. In short: The steam pressure goes down and the volume of the cylinders ( surface of the piston)goes up so that all of them work with equal torque.
@Jeansschwimmer That was done so that the engine could run fast. Engines with only one huge cylinder could of course work too with high pressures, but it takes the steam time to fully expand and that made these monsters slow. Single cylinder engines were typical of factory engines ( mill engines) or paddle steamers ( paddle wheels seldomly made more than 45 revs per minute.)
@Jeansschwimmer The difficulty is to construct those "double, triple or quadruple compound engines" as they are called, to give each cylinder equal strengh ( torque on the crankshaft). If you do not do that you would have the same effect as if two cyclists sat on a tandem bicycle and the one would pedal harder than the other, in which case he would do all of the work because the other one would feel no pressure against his feet and be idle therefore, just moving his knees up and down.
Actually, it is not an original streamline, this is a rebuilt 01.10 steam loco, just like the 01 1066 and 01.1100 which can be seen on german tracks. Meiningen designed a new streamlining for this loco, which is looking like the old one, but it is not the same as this loco is different from the original dimensions due to the new boiler...
The loco did not run for the last few years, as it has some mechanical problems which are yet to be solved, and there were issues with the owner.
she is manufactured in 1940 in germany. has spended train duty until the 1970th.... then she was locked at bebra to be a monument.... in the 1990th has an "investor" the machine reactivatet, and in the "reichsbahnausbesserungswerk meiningen" becomes it the blue steel arodynamic design - like in original the 40th.
today, the "blue lady" stands in meiningen and its corrosive, because these "investor" have no more money, to set her under steam!!!
Nothing beats a three-cylinder. Thank God we have some nice German locos in the Netherlands (amongst which the stunning 01 1075) because the silly Dutch scrapped almost every Dutch steam loco. Thanks for sharing this great vid!
Cool Video! Look it very exactly! That´s the last streamline steam engine of it´s type.
It was built by the "Deutsche Reichsbahn".
If you have look at the front you can see (hardly but you can)an eagle with a wreath in it´s claws. In this wreath is the original swastika. It is only sticked over that you can not see it any more.
No, it hadn`t been removed. In Germany there is a law which does not allow showing signs of nazicisom in public. But it does not tell you to leave signs, so it was left at place.
Thanks for your reply, feuerwehrmannEN. Have you seen the new british A1 Peppercorn number 60163 'Tornado', built with German help? I think it may tour Germany... will be funny to see going through the Channel Tunnel!
Yes, it is good. But it is a bit older because the car livery is several years ago. Unfortunately I don't see a blue 110 anymore and todays InterCity cars are in white livery with red line. Some calls them the "lazaret waggons". My favourite livery was the one of TEE (white-red) or at least the one shown in this video of the InterCity. I don't like the current one...
Very good filming, nice to see some old steam locomotives. Suprised that there are streamlined loco's in Germany. Well done and thanks a lot. Keep the good work up.
To bad! :( I think that the government (taxes) should pay for the repair then, it's an important piece of engineering with a huge legacy tied to it. Worst thing that can happen to a mechanical device/machine (and humans also for that matter) is that it's prevented to operate, decay comes quickly when forced to stay still.
But i understand that it's not as easy as that because then other foundations, organizations will demand special money also.

@Paraffinmeister Still the pieces return very handsome sums of CASH! And NO QUESTIONS ASKED!
The day is quickly coming when parts will be removed & sold for their collectible value!
Then to everyone's delight, this steam locomotive will be scrapped, cut apart & melted!
Tough up & deal with it!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 And on that day, you might actually get laid.=P Like I said, never going to happen.=)

Junk the steam locomotives!

When it is all over, we will tap you on the tail feathers to let you know it is safe to pull your head above ground.
We will have a fresh dry crying towel for you!
These things are worth more as a whole! However, the parts are worth enough to pique the interest of those who need QUICK CASH!
Hey guys, you know where it is, you know the lax security system surrounding it, I would say it is time to help yourselves!

@Cockroach2008 Give it up, we all know it'll never happen so save yourself the bother of leaving these pointless comments and give give up.=P

It is no bother to me to tell the truth. These steam locomotives are high on the target list for parts thievery!
