This game was so badass I really loved the story and this RTS game had the best GUI no huge dashboard like Starcraft had.

I played KKND 1 and i remember that last levels was Insane hard!! level 13 on humans was impossbile.. level 14 dident make it.

On mutans i come to level 12 only to hard hehe..

@XzanderS1 You cant, atleast not on 64-bit one as it doesnt support it anymore. You can run KKnD Dos version via Dosbox but for KKnD Xtreme you'll need virtualbox, a virtual computer so to speak, have it with some earlier windows setup like windows 98 or some, and try run the game from there. I am getting to it myself to give it a try.

this version seems worse than the orginal?? i had the orginal kknf krossfire on ps1 and it was alot better than this... it had music and a minimap and looked a whole lot better..?

The main problem with this game is the grouping system..

and in the ps1 version there were mobile construction vehicles..

loved these games...just recently cleared all the missions in this oh and also, veteran soldiers DO heal themselves...but the veteran vehicles do not without a repair bay

Wow I remember this game. I got it for my 11th birthday. Along side Z, this was my favourite RTS. It's incredibly difficult however, like Z, especially for a stupid young kid.

But WTF are you trying to build an Outpost on the oil patch? You need oil derricks for that, that's why your build order should incorporate a machine shop first, then power. An 11 year old could have told you that.

If you have music or not, depends on your OS. Vista and Seven seem not to have the right codec to play the cutscenes or the music. The last MS-OS that runs music and cutscenes is XP. WinSeven users can be happy, their Virtual XP mode allows them to run the game with scenes and musik. Another thing: If someone downloaded the very small free kknd version, has access to all campaign missions but w/o music and scenes.

Update: Problem solved

Installed MS virtual PC 2007 and installed a copy of XP Pro.

Now have the best of both worlds - XP Pro and Win 7. A dual system with no rebooting.

I just got this game again on E-bay and it works in Win 7 64bit, but the menus are all messed up like it is running in 256 Color, but the video is fine.

I tried to us compatablity modes but it crashes.

Any thoughts or patches?

It's like an expansion pack, with new missions and skirmish (Kaos) mode. Hence my review is mostly based on that new feature.

@jeremysart Also, if I recall correctly, in addition to what scottishterrierdude said, it also works on Windows. Vanilla KKND worked in DOS. I also think it has the same missions as KKND.

KKND had background music, it's jus tnot in the pirated versions (most probably because there is no CD with those versions).

As for air units, there was the option, if I recall correctly, to build bomber wasps if you're evolved or aircraft if you're survivors.

But it is a fantastic game - just a shame the original was not rleased with skirmish mode - only Xtreme had that :(

...I think you have a crappy cheap version of the game mate, just to let you know - there is background music, infact, they're inventive by having diff music for diff sides :)

this game rules! but kknd krossfire sucked! it takes 50000 hours to build a unit, the graphics were even worse than kknd xtreme, the skirmish maps were mostly bland and the gameplay was so slow.... kknd xtreme was almost flawless.

i still miss this kinda upgrade system from the nowdays RTS, it was cool to have a proper science facility kinda stuff, where you could manage that.

Veteran infrantry CAN heal, Vehicles can't :). And for moving youre base you just have to build cheepest buildings making a patch, and then destroying them.

There are about 10 maps, so after a while you know whitch map looks like.
