To make the color transparent, first apply the Stripes filter go to Edit - Select Color. Choose your background color, click OK, then your image stripes should be selected. now hit the Delete key and presto! They're gone.

theres no way to get the secondary color to be transparent. :(

:< There is a problem with this effect now that Nucleus is out. You can't make the other stripes transparent anymore
