A popular urban legend that I've often heard is that religion has killed more people than anything else, so the world would be a lot more peaceful place were it not for religion. The top three largest examples are thought to be the Crusades of the Middle Ages, the Spanish Inquisition, and the burning of witches. Scholars estimate that the Crusades of the middle ages cost from 58,000 to 133,000 lives.
It's fitting a pro Christianity song uses the story of Cortez to support faith based dedication, seeing as though Christianity is responsible for a great deal of blood shed through out it's history.

It's fitting a pro Christianity song uses the story of Cortez to support faith based dedication, seing as though Christianity is responsible for a great deal of blood shed through out it's history.
@nak807 - a year ago, I addressed this by noting that the sermon I delivered to go with this video told the people that our "Hollywood hindsight" only remembers the "conquistador" as the pretty-sounding hero when indeed, they were a murdering band of mercenaries. Yes, so-called Christians have been responsible for a great deal of bloodshed throughout history. How sad that they set back the work of Jesus instead of fulfilling it.
@MISTYMOMMY1 Completely agree. It doesn't speak as a testament to Christianities divinity that it followed the same path of blood that other authoritarian monotheisms followed.
@MISTYMOMMY1 It's refreshing to hear a christian acknowledge the genocide of the new world without excuses. The message of this song endorses faith. Faith is believing in some thing with out evidence or in corroboration with overwhelming emotions that right? It's this very idea that makes organized religion dangerous. It creates a mechanism in the mind which tells believers as soon as they see some thing counter to their faith "Just skip over it" with out challenging what one believes.
@nak807 - Nice, blame Christians for what was done in the name of, for and by Spain. Jesus said "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you."Two million Christian Sudanese have been murdered by Hassan al-Bashir’s Wahhabi Jihad (Holy War) since 1989. Ah yes, Islam, the religion of peace. We aren't talking about something 500 years ago, this is today. FYI, in the past century (20th) atheism has put to death 100 million people.
@stephengiljum You realize Spain was a theocracy right? Jesus also said "I come not to bring peace but, a sword". Do you think other religions committing murder dulls Christians genocide? I'd like to know how atheism has killed that many people. I assume your talking about Stalling and Mao? We know from their doctors that both were schizophrenic, sadistic sociopaths but you seem to think their atheism was responsible instead of the traits I've just listed that produce contempt for other humans.
@nak807 - No, Spain of that period was a monarchy not a theocracy. While kings and queens of those periods often paid homage to the Pope/Catholic Church, they ruled their countries. The reference you made does not refer to physical violence by ideological, particularly since the following reference speaks to family and one of the last comments made by Jesus was "They that live by the sword, die by the sword." Yes, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot. They may have been sociopaths but please note (continued)
@nak807 that is the kind of leadership atheism tend to attract. If man is just an animal, we kill animals all the time, and if you can portray your enemy as something less than human, disposing of them is much easier. The dark a history of the Catholic church pails in comparison to atheism's efficiency. I am not a catholic, nor do I condone the crusades or Spanish Inquisition. But no where in scripture does it say to torture and burn heretics, pagans or Jews. Hunt them down and kill them.
@stephengiljum Nowhere does the bible say that? Well your right, stoning isn't the same as burning them. Deuteronomy 22:20-21, 17:2-5, 2. The European new world genocides shows Christians can be equally evil. "Sociopaths are the leaders atheists attract" Says who, you? Any evidence? You realize Scandinavia is 80% atheist right? If you believe that then what would you recommend be done with all the atheists in the world? 2 Chronicles 15:12-13 say's all the atheists should be put to death.
@nak807 That was old testament law. Can you point to any of the followers of Jesus who stoned or hurt anyone? Catholics certainly messed up Europe, I won't deny that. They also weren't following the teachings of Christ. Can you point to any Protestant groups who performed any genocide? As far as evidence, try the aforementioned Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot. They followed the teachings of Marx, who took one piece of Hegel's work - Whatever solves a problem at its fundamental level is moral.
@stephengiljum Are you saying the old testament isn't the word of god? The original sin that required Jesus sacrifice, was also in the old testament. Your picking and choosing. A minute ago you said "No where in scripture does it say to torture and burn heretics" Now when I provide you with evidence you claim it's invalid because it's in the old testament. Without the old testament why did Jesus need to be sacrificed? Now your saying Christians can commit atrocities but not Protestants.(continue
@nak807 - I personally don't think atheists are evil immoral psychopaths, but when you get a combination of a totalitarian state and atheism, you can get a real nasty combination as exhibited by Stalin, Pol Pot and Mao. Fundamentally, any group that devalues any other group because of race, religion or political belief is frightening and are capable of monstrous acts. And no I was not saying Christians can but not Protestants. Catholicism was responsible for the Inquisition and the Crusades.
@stephengiljum Are you saying the old testament isn't to be believed? If you don't believe in the old testament then why did Jesus need to be sacrificed? Protestant also commit atrocities. The thirty year war, Northern Ireland, genocide against the Irish. In each case they weren't protestants who happen to kill but killed because of their faith. Again, you seem to think that Atheism is more responsible for Stallin, Mao than psychopathy. Atheist is the lack of a belief in a god, that's it.
@nak807 I've posted last message twice by accident. But, you still haven't addressed the things you've said about atheists. If Atheists are bad people who prefer psychopath rulers why hasn't Japan, Denmark, Sweden, Norway ect committed atrocities?
@nak807 Religion and dictatorial psychopaths kill people for exactly the same reason: an intolerance for belief systems other than their own. Body count isn't probative of the existence of God; only that people use the proposed existence of God or lack of it for their own personal benefit.
@nak807 - With regard to the Irish and English, while religion was major contribution towards that conflict, there was underlying that the English control over the Irish. England was catholic until, if I recall correctly, King Henry the 8th broke with the Catholic church and moved to Protestantism because the Pope would not allow another divorce. That England became Protestant wasn't the primary reason for the conflict, it simply exacerbated the division between Ireland and England.
@stephengiljum I also notice you didn't touch the question of why the old testament can't be quoted to justify murder but can be used to justify the need for a human sacrifice to overcome original sin. Wanna have a go at it? I'd love to hear your reply.
Yes, atheism is a lack of belief in God but you neglect to see where atheism takes that belief. Man is simply an evolved animal. There is nothing special about him. Morality and what we do to each other is an artificial set of beliefs that have no real basis in reality. Fundamentally, if you are an atheist why would you ever complain about anything anyone has ever done against someone else? Its just what one animal does to another. I can account for my beliefs, you borrow from mine.
@stephengiljumd After reading this again, I want a second go if your up for it? Reading the post below this, I wonder if you believe what you've posted here. Do you think emotions of empathy, compassion weren't around until the bible? You said 'nothing special about [us]{without god}' These emotions are built into human beings as well as several other species. Why must morals come from god in order to be followed? If Atheists are as you say, why don't they commit more crime than believers?
@nak807 The point that stephen is making is that if man is simply an evolved animal, than morality is a purely human construction, to be followed or disregarded at man's whim. If there is no higher authority that created the universe and the laws governing it and human behavior, then there is no reason to be a moral person if it does not directly benefit you, and if it does not harm you to be immoral. I'm not saying atheists are immoral - what I am saying is that
@jimboa26 I understand what your saying. If some one does wrong their emotions are the penalty. Guilt and sympathy don't go away because you realize your god isn't real. These emotions are universal to all cultures because they are biological in origin. A sociopath is defined as a person who's brain is broken from birth or from a accident causing them not feel these emotions I've mentioned.
@nak807 (con'ted) if atheists are right and that our sense of justice and what is right or wrong is nothing more than social brainwashing, then there is no real reason to adhere to any kind of morality if it does not benefit you. for example, if tomorrow society were to break down and all law and order were null and void, an atheist would have no reason or excuse to be moral or have a moral code. Christians, however, would still be expected to moral, no matter what happens.
@nak807 I believe nothing should be done with all of the atheists in the world. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions about life, death, deity or lack of one. Christianity is about a relationship with God and choice. You can even be wrong in your own opinions, you just can't be wrong in your facts. The Bible tells us to be good citizens and obey the laws of the land except where they conflict with the laws of God, and considering we don't live in a theocracy, I would say live and let live.
@nak807 Now if you are an atheist, most Christians would be completely content to let you have your choice. As would probably most religions, probably with the exception of Islam. To the fundamentalist Muslim you would be an infidel, as would I and both of us would be killed for our lack of belief.
@nak807 How typical of a liberal (probably an atheist) to take what is purely an anecdote of one single moment in Cortez's story and make it seem like the song is glorifying everything Cortez did or what he stood for.
And actually, Christianity has had nothing to do with the bloodshed in history. Rather, in every instance where killing was done in the name of Christianity,it was actually done in the name of nationalistic pride or greed or racial hatred, and Christianity was evoked to excuse it.
@jimboa20 You've attempted to label me with terms I assume you think are universal. By "libral" did you mean Democrat? I've never voted for a Democrat but, have voted for Republicans and am an Atheist. Does that not make sense to you, How some one could not fit in to the little box definitions that have been added to your vocabulary from watching too much TV?
I'd like to reply to you but, I want an answer on this first. Do you want me to point out organized murder committed by Christianity?
@nak807 Voting republican has absolutely nothing to do with being liberal or conservative. there IS such a thing as a liberal republican. As for your question, I say bring it on. This should be interesting...also, this might come as a shock to you, but being an atheist does not automatically make you smarter than me (being a Christian).
this song is really great!! it goes really deep and i must confess, it is not as easy to really do it... but the song really helps to go on feeding the fire.

About 47 hours. Bear in mind that I was learning the software bit by bit too. The only other video I had ever made was Igreja da Irmandade and you can see from one to the next how much I learned.
Im mexican and my people really hate Hernan Cortez since he brought death and disease and destroyed the Aztec Empire wich was very young (in empire years) and still had ahead a lot of greatness to accomplish; we see him as a greedy-gold hunter-back stabber-filthy spaniard with a licence to kill and raid... but I must admit his ship burning thing was remarkably brave.. if something we christians should learn from that son of a whore is that, his great determination not to sail back.
I just want you to know that the sermon I preached with this video explained all that; how in "Hollywood hindsight" our rose colored glasses romanticize the murdering conquerer as the "conquistador,' the pretty sounding heroic character. Thanks for this video! I used to listen to this song when I was little with my dad, but I never understood the meaning till now and it almost brings me to tears!!
it is estimated Cortes killed 240,000 native americans during his conquest. food for thought.
