Ohio State can take our chants, but what they cant take is how great and better our programs have been forever. No matter what sport, even football, we kick their asses.
This is cool, but I long for the old days when they had a drum cadence that they would do during the 3rd period of a blowout, and the conductor would have a dance solo.
oh my, do we have the next gene krupa? I am from columbus and I can say that nothing beats the atmosphere at a michigan hockey game. Best time I ever had at a college sporting event. I wonder how many schools have copied playing this since michigan started it so many years ago.Ohio State has tried to steal it like they have stolen everything else they are known for.
This band's performance of this song represents a can't-miss guaranteed highlight of every Michigan hockey game. Congrats to the band for over and over giving us goosebumps. Thanks for the tremendous video. Now every day can be Friday night at Yost. Does anyone know how this all got started please -- when the hockey band first played it and how soon did they start doing it every game?
My understanding is that it started with a parent dancing to this song while the band played and one member of the horns(one sax, one trumpet, tuba, trombone..etc) they would perform a solo during the song and the parent started dancing and the students followed suit and then the band was moved closer to the students and it has grown to this...my understanding.. @JohnLowe86
@jlaff0316 The parent was Jack Johnson's dad. Prior to him, it was a dance by the water buffalo, a guy that use to wear a blue hat with horns. You can see a clip of his dad on youtube. Jack left for the pro's quite early (third overall pick in Crosby's draft class), and the dance was kept alive after he left. As for the band moving closer to the students, that was due to the administrations inability to keep the students from yelling the "See Ya Chant", and tried to drown out the cheer.
michigan hockey games are the greatest college sports experience their is, and this comes from someone from ohio. Everyone has stolen playing this song now it seems. Go anywhere and find someone who doesn't play it, not many . Three cheer to michigan for starting it.
The quad player is amazing. We went to high school. Keep up the great work JH. Miss playing along side of you in drumline and marching band back in our town. You guys sound awesome!!!!
I was only able to see one hockey game this year and it was ummm in the CCHA playoffs where they played Western Michigan University. My father kept saying you have to see the band play.. you have to see the song at the second intermission.. he was not mistaken. This song fricken rocks.. it took me a minute or two to get the beat but i joined in with the rest of the fans doing the dance. God Bless the Michigan Band
Good job Michigan band indeed. All season I danced at the south end of the student section, and this song never gets old. Even hearing it now I can feel the rush of adrenaline. Thank you band!!!!
Hahahaha, michigan hockey, never gets old does it??? If i had to chose, the maize rage at the basketball games or the student section at the hockey games, i think we have more fun at the hockey games lol. although basketball is fun too.

Watching this in Ireland. Absolutely love it. Really catches the exuberance which makes the US so special.

They play it every home game during the 2nd intermission, and it NEVER gets old. Yost is the best arena to see a hockey game at, PERIOD.
