  • Am I hearing correctly or did he say "black truth"????

  • How did your patina hold up after your testing? Did you find yourself having to force another patina on it?

  • because the Ka-Bar has a thin tang and weak for hard tasks, is there any knives with a thick strong tang with similar blade length as the ka-bar?

  • @jabames ,for 'hard tasks'I would use a hatchet. The Fiskars X7 or GB wildlife hatchet are born choppers and weigh not more than big knives anyway. Some carry a BK-2 or ESEE-5 .Why carry such weight when you can carry a hatchet with the same weight that is much more effective. And you can cut some wood with also.Just combine it with a small knife like the Bravo1 or a Mora. All the way

  • I REALLY want to buy this knife, but noss4 showed the edge rolling with some light batoning. Have you had an problems with rolling or warping of the edge?

  • @aTellerOfTruths That noss4 guy is a fucking idiot.

  • The handle ergo is definitely better than on the RAT knives.Patina compound ? :-P

  • we all seem to be commenting on deaf ears ,, blunt is nowhere to be seen .very disturbing ,,,,,,,, if anyone has heard of what he is up to ,,, please comment,,, steve use to be far and away the very very best knife reviewer around ,

  • @heettreet ,yeah he's a long time away now. What do you think is happening? Is he in prison...Or on duty ,Merc?or what. Some of these things..But what..

  • @555Nato i have no idea ,, the last time he left ,it seemed to be for the military ,, he had money when he got out ,to hike the appellation trail ,, i'd watch his vids in a heartbeat if he returned ,, i now watch ,,, vertuovice ,, he is in japan ,, very honest about his reviews ,, like blunt ,,,, ,,, if you can get by his accent ,,,i do not mind it at all ,,,, look him up ,, he has tons of knives ,, he's a doctor ,,,, good luck

  • @heettreet ,is viruoce a real doctor or do you mean a knife doctor.Yes I know about Blunt hiking on that trail. He had been already for quite a while away. Now it seems even longer. He has three daughters. He must keep contact with them ?Strange all this..He is a stranger in a way.But at the same time very familiar,i emailed a couple of times with him and he's a friendly guy.I find blunt's knife reviews one of the nicest to watch.Calm, down to earth explaining. No crap talk ,no hype.

  • @heettreet ,virtuoce is very knowledgable also.True.But I still like Steve(Blunt) a bit better.I have seen many videos of this man and asked and commented things on his videos. He's definitely a good thing on the internet too.

He's a guy that goes to work with a microscope on his knfe edges.Hence the name you gave doctor?

  • @heettreet ,do you know for sure it was the military or is it guessing like i do?

  • @555Nato im only guessing , he had money to hike the appellation trail ,,, i don't think he would have if it was a jail tern ,,, military is my guess ,,, if he came back , he would be my number one vid again for sure

  • @heettreet ,he was saying 'shit happens' somewhere, about his situation coming up.So i thought he had to do time or something. He is definitely one of the best on youtube reviewing knives. No doubt about that. What's the card in the video in the background"with the text "Mike juggles"mean?

  • @555Nato im guessing ,,,, it is ever someone he knows or a channel name ,,, forgot what it means to him

  • @555Nato shit happens could very well mean he got called to Afghanistan or the like

  • @heettreet ,he says on his channel that he is a dockworker. He's 45 years old.Dont know but most of these guys tend to be younger. And why hiding?I think he said something about some guy(s) he knew in the Recon. But that doesnt man he's in it.It's all very vague and his way of doing makes it that way.Actually..

  • You can order a Bravo-1 without the thumb ramp and also with Matt finish on the handle. It currently comes in A-2 and CPM154 and the 2011 production schedule shows CPM3V and CPMS35VN.

  • DUDE...They're having a sale at webs(dot)knivesnstuff(dot)com...really good customer service too...another place you can get them for a little more money is Crystall falls

Hoped this hellped a fellow knife dude find a great knife knife!!!

  • @selfmadeboy88 Yeah...it takes a great edge...I have a Fox River and I just sharpen it with a mouse pad and wet/dry sandpaper and it comes out razor sharp... Can't go wrong with a Barkie.

  • you want to sell your master hunter?

  • if you have time you should make a good fallkniven f1 and bark river bravo 1 comparison video

  • sounds like they will be making the bravo 1 with CPM 3v in the near future. CPM 3V has better edge retention, better corrosion resistance, and has more impact toughness than A2. It's actually similar to A2 in composition but it's a particle metal with added vanadium. should make the blade awesome!

  • You can now order them without the thumb ramp.

  • I really like this knife and want to get one but have you seen Noss destruction on this knife? It totally failed and did much worst than many other knives. What are your thoughts on this? The one he used chipped just going through a 4x4. Your knife seemed to be the opposite. Perhaps he tested on a lemon? I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this. I don't plan to chop concrete but I do want a tough knife that won't chip in the woods.

  • I'm concerned about this too. I'm looking at the Bravo 1 vs Fallkniven F1. Noss destroyed his Bravo, but had good things to say about Fallkniven.

  • You say the Bravo has much better edge retention than the Fallkniven F1, yet they both have the same edge hardness (59 RC). Are your sure it's not just in your imagination? ;) (I know there are other factors but there shouldn't really be a noticeable difference)

  • i finally have to say it ,,, how come some major knife company hasn't grabbed you up as a design consultant ? ,,,, the info you pass along is by far the best in function ive ever seen ,,, ,, of course . commercial productivity may get in the way of some of your suggestions ,, but ,, it still seem you woulld have very valuable contributions to knife companies that cater to the everyday knife user ,,,,, oh well , its a mystery to me ,, thanks al the pal

  • oh boy post your comments on NOSS4 test here he will tell you whats right i have not talk to him about it yet! Com on blunt man

  • HI MAN, IVE HEARD FROM YOU THAT YOU WAS LOOKING FOR A 'CPM 3 V' STEEL BLADE KNIFE : IN YOUR OPINION A KNIFE WITH THIS KIND OF STEEL, IS BETTER THAN THE BARK RIVER BRAVO ONE IN A2 STEEL ? I MEAN, HAVE YOU EVER TESTED THIS 'FAMOUS' CPM 3V STEEL ( NOW ALL THE PEOPLE TALKS OF THIS CPM 3V...CPM 3V... BLA BLA...) ?

  • @xTUNGSTENOx

No, I haven't had a chance to use a knife made with CPM 3V, yet. I've heard great things, as well. But experience has taught me not to believe everything I hear - even if it's from the majority. I'll find out someday for myself.

  • @xTUNGSTENOx I do not own any knife with the A2 steel, yet I do own a Bravo 1 with CPM-154 steel, not the A2 steel. I also own a Zero Toerance 0100 knife with the CPM-3V steel, and I gotta tell you that CPM-3V is tougher than the CPM-154. Therefore, I'd automatically assume that CPM-3V is much better steel than the A2 steel. Check out the videos in "KnifeDealPlus" channel. There are just 6 videos of Zero Tolerance blade toughness tests. You'll just have to see for yourself how tough CPM-3V stee

  • @xTUNGSTENOx ...steel is. Let me know what you think of the steel after watching those videos. I hope this helps.

  • @xTUNGSTENOx Bark River is making the Bravo 1 and the new Bravo 1.5 in 3V this year. You can preorder one from any dealer.

  • Ok thanks I just got it today and it's the strongest knife that I've ever had in my hand

  • Good video...you've convinced me...I'll be buying one! In regards to the patina, I'll bite - MUSTARD???

  • @applevalleyjoe

Yes. But anything with vinegar in it would work. Some people use katchup, mayo, vinegar in a rag, etc.

  • would a gatco coarse double diamond pocket hone work for my bravo 1 or should i just get the gatco hone sharpening system with the six different hones. What strop should i get the one in your sharpening video?

  • @L1TTLEPrObLeM

The big strop that I show in the "newer" stropping video is the one I use for the Bravo1.

  • Alright thanks I'll be looking up those vids when the time comes

  • i just ordered this knife and im pumped to get it because ive read nothing but good reviews and i know the history behind it. I think the A2 steel will be extremely strong and stay razor sharp longer. I'm also going to probably put a forced patina on it to protect the blade. What do you use to sharpen your knives?

  • @L1TTLEPrObLeM

You'll be happy with your Bravo1.

I have several vids on how I sharpen both bevel ("V") edges and convex edges.

  • HI MAN, IN YOUR OPINION WHICH IS STRONGER , HARD WEARING, TOUGH AND BETTER, FOR SURVIVAL POURPOSE : BARK RIVER BRAVO 1 OR ZERO TOLERANCE STRIDER 121

  • @xTUNGSTENOx

I never owned a 121, and probably never will because I HATE recurve blades. Aside from that and the oversized thumb-ramp, the knife looks very good for bushcraft. I know that it is well made, as is all Zero Tolerance blades. But the design does not beat the Bravo1 for bushcraft, IMO.

  • @BLUNTRUTH4U

hey blunt hows the convex on this ?

  • @renagade12

It holds and edge very well and is very resistant to deforming. When you let it get VERY dull it does take some time and patients to bring it back to perfect.

  • @BLUNTRUTH4U

ohh is that so? good advice blunt!

  • Blunt, you mentioned the patina. What is that, what is the product and how is it applied? Is this the same as oiling a 1095 knife like my Tops Smoke Jumper?

  • @MyPhotog

A "forced patina" is a type of rusting that you put on the blade to form a kind of shield against the destroying kind of rust (red rust). You simply apply a very thin layer or anything with vinegar (mustard, mayo, ketchup, vinegar, etc.) and let it set for 15-20 minutes then wash it off. There are many YT vids about forced patinas.

  • @BLUNTRUTH4U Man your videos are on point! From one computer friend to another, you have got to get your hands on a fehrman. I have owned Beckers, ESEE knives and both BRKT Bravos and I now use a Fehrman First Strike and the CPM 3V is absolutely unreal in toughness and edge holding ability. It makes A2 seem like iron, no joke. If you like the Bravo 1 the fehrman last chance would be the last knife you would ever take with you if your life really depends on it. Excellent work man.

  • @KNIFEABILITY

I've been eyeing the Last Chance for some time now. Kind of hard to find and kind of expensive. I'll eventually pick one up, though.

  • @BLUNTRUTH4U All the Fehrman knives take two weeks to get off their website. They are more expensive but with your knowledge you deserve the best knife u can get. Please do a woods test and tabletop when you pick one up, I have learned so much from your videos and would love to see your reaction after beating on this knife. If you put a convex on this knife I can't even imagine! Your vids are also hilarious, keeps me laughing and learning-Thank you!

  • This video resulted in me getting one of these blades. This guy is right about nearly everything.

  • The kydex sheath sucks balls! For 200 bucks the knife should have a better sheath. I still like my RC-3. It is light, is cheaper, and the sheath is nice. Remember the sheath is part of the package too. I love my bravo though. it is blue glow G-10 handle!

  • I was trying to implie that the becker knifes are heavy. And i know that the barkie will out perform any knife. I just got a bk-9 and was suggesting to get one,but thee sheath is trash. My bravo 1 is coming in the mail. So i will tell you how it goes.

  • Pump some weights and try a becker knife! They are really nice blades!

  • @killkill120

I've been lifting for 15 years off and on (best bench: 375lbs. competition form).

I like the BK2 and plan to get one. But 1095 steel is not comparable to A2 - so there is no way the BK2 will out last the Bravo1 in edge retention or durability.

  • Sorry to be late to the party, but thanks for the great series of reviews. One question: how did you grind down the firesteel striker ramp? What did you use and how long did it take? Thanks!

  • @hilldm

I used a high-power (the highest) Dremel tool with the gray grinding head.

It took about half an hour.

  • hey blunt how do you sharpen that edge i need advise? can you use Japanese water stones or no?

  • @renagade12

Some people seem to be able to sharpen convex with stones, but it takes a special technique. I haven't tried it, so I can't advise you. I sharpen convexes with fine chromium sandpaper and then strop the hell out of them.

  • @BLUNTRUTH4U

THANKS BLUNT TAKE IT EASY MAN CHECK OUT MY PAGE AS WELL

  • Who is Mike Juggles?

  • ObamaJugglesKittens is a now closed YT account of a friend of mine. It's an inside joke to him.

  • whats the name of one of your sharpening video's called?

  • @MainzxLivewire oh i found ur convexing and stropping vids..good job!!

  • "Sharpening My Way, Part 1", there are three parts.

Stropping is now done the way I show in the stropping vid you already saw, not the way I did it in the sharpening series.

  • cold steel sucks!

  • what kind of oil do you sue for your knives ? I have a large bottle of oil for hair trimmer blades, I wonder if I can use it for my knives for a maintenance ?

  • does the thicness of the blade get in the way? in say skinning small game battoning and fileting fish if any one could answer thank you

  • I only found one place that has it without the fire striker and they want alot may I ask what site you got yours from.

  • apparently this is a popular model because I cant seem to find it in stock anywhere. any suggestions?

  • knifesupply looks like they have em

  • Thanks

  • Many thanks for the video I have being try to get the bravo 1 here in the UK for some time they are as rare as hens teeth, but finally found a supplier looking forward to putting it to good use.

  • I did the same for my cs trailmaster. Had a sheet without a knife with same beltloop I attached with zip ties. Works great for me. next I'd add a pouch to the leather sheet on front to hold a shaprner etc.

  • Although a patina is a very good idea, it doesn't not provide much protection from pitting, and other rust. A patina is no excuse not to maintain your knives. Keep a thin coating of oil on all of your non-stainless blades. Easy to do and will do wonders.

  • what is a great oil to prevent rust?? thanks man...

  • Mineral oil. You can find it in the laxative section of CVS or any drug store.

  • thanks man!

  • cool, mustard

  • That kydex bracket is not designed to be put on a belt. It's actually designed to be put on equipment such as vests and backpacks.

  • Thats not what the guy that designed the knife says. He calls it a belt loop.

  • shut up little bitch

  • Thank you BLUNTRUTH4U! Your excellent vids helped me decide on getting the Bravo1.

I don't think that striker ramp is going to work for me either.

Looking forward to watching your future videos.

  • Awesome. Nice thorough review. Looks like a real nice little knife too!

  • hey im just wondering, do you have any suggestions on how i could notch the bolts so i could unscrew them and remove the handles?

  • Go to a store that sells the attachements for a Dremel tool and get a disk-shaped grinding wheel, or maybe the heavy-duty cut-off wheel (there is also light duty cut-off wheels). Then put it on a drill if you don't have a Dremel. Just be very careful or you'll screw up your scales. It should need to be a very deep groove.

  • I meant to type "It SHOULDN'T need to be a very deep groove."

  • thanks for the quick response

  • Great review. Keep up the good work bro.

  • Excellent video , thanks.

  • Great review. What tool did you use to take the thumb ramp / fire steel striker off with?

    Keep up the good work.

  • I used my Dremel (highest speed model) with an orange grinding head.

You could do it with just the head put on a drill.

  • You share good info. Based mostly on your videos I bought the next size smaller than the Bravo-1, the Bark River Gunny.

    Ooops!

I thought I'd be clever and save some size and weight. Nope, it is just not the same knife. The balance is different, the smaller handle is too small for me. It just doesn't fill my hand securely.

So, next time If Bluntruth likes the Brave-1 model, I'm buying the same darn model!

  • Cool comment!

I saw Kyley's (knivesandstuff) recent vids on his new Gunny. I like it, but - as you said - it's not much lighter and the Bravo1 is plenty light enough (7.5 ounces) and is much more capable, IMO.

You may be able to trade up. BRKT is very customer friendly.

  • Thanks for the reply. It worked out just right, and the heads up on the edge oxidizing probably saved me some hassle. The bark river knives really do feel fantastic, can't wait to put it to work.

  • Thanks for the review. I'm waiting for delivery of my first BRKT hopefully today! I picked the Canadian Special, something about it seemed appealing. This whole review series really makes me wish I'd chosen the bravo 1. Your review was an eye opener for me how versatile the bravo is. About the protective patina, how long should the 'special compound' stay on to take properly? I'm certainly going to be interested in getting that going, but I've never tried it.

  • If you haven't done it before, experiment with an area of the tang. Applying a thinner layer of mustard will work faster than a thick layer. Sounds backwards, but it's because the affect requires oxygen. So, apply a thin layer and watch it for 15-20 minutes. You should see dark spots forming on the metal - they will lighten when you wash off the mustard. You might want to wash it off at that point. You can always do more, but not less.

  • When I say "thin layer", I mean you should still be able to see the metal under the mustard.

You will need to sharpen after the treatment if you get it on the edge - because you don't want patina on the edge.

  • Hey, have you touched up that convex edge yet?

  • Yes, I've stropped it a few times. I did lot's more stuff than that shelter, I enjoy using it and have practiced all kinds of bushcraft with it.

It strops up very easily. I'll be doing a vid on how I "strop sharpen". I do it a little different from others.

  • nice review, tnks

  • Great stuff!

You have the only videos I would pay to see.

You mentioned the Bravo 1 handle is much more comfortable than Rat Cutlery handles. Would you compare the blade toughness and edge retention of A2 Vs 1095 steel?

Can you compare to Infi, I don't remember you ever talkiing about it in any of your videos.

Thanks for the survival videos, I hope the kids that need it are watching.

  • Thanks! I'll PM you an address where you can send a check or money order;)

Infi steel is used on many Busse knives. I hear great things about it, I never used it. Someday I hope to get a Battle Mistress. Just love the look of that beast.

A2 is superior to 1095 in every way except price, IMO. Also considered superior in most other knowledgeable peoples opinion. But my opinion is based solely on my experiences with both.

  • try a FERHMAN final judgment first. you wont be let down. just as big as a busse. and its just as tough. the ferhman to me feels a little bit better( I have both).

  • I had seen the Last Chance. But after your comment I went to their site and saw several great looking blades.

What do you think of CPM3V?

I know it's HYPED as great steel, but what's your experience with it?

  • my thoughts on cpm3v vs. infi-

both carbon type steels, they feel the same when sharpening. to me they act the same. seem to bear the same amount of "scars" after use. a BIG difference in the handels, ferhmans are lined with a shock absorbing material where busse's arnt. satin finish for the ferhman while busse is the crinkle finish. I feel that its more or less a toss-up, but the winner is the ferhman . even though ferhman has a satin finish they are not that touchy on corrosion in so. calif

  • My Opinion is don't get a busse BM. They are expensive and the only thing you are ever going to do with it is cutting down trees and breaking concrete. If you want to cut down trees, get an axe. If you want to break concrete, get a jack hammer.

  • I agree! I wouldn't be using the BM much, I don't like big heavy knives (as you said, just get a hatchet or axe). It's just one of those cool knives that you just want anyway. I always say I'm not a collector - I'm a user - but their are a few exceptions.

But, as I said, I agree with you 100%.

  • nice

  • cant wait to see what color you will duricote the knife. lol lol lol

  • Solid vid, Man...

That's a beast of a knife... seriously thick blade stock... wouldn't have many worries at all about failure even before seeing the rest of the series.... Good stuff!

  • Ah by the way, if you really need some grip just use some skateboard tape, stuff is tough as nails!

  • btw, i know that guy mikejuggleskittens...he's insane

  • this series was awesome...makes me want to drive 2 hours out of town just so i can find some trees...last time i got lost was on a NYC subway

  • great knife. whos mike juggles lol??

  • mikejuggleskittens, he knows who he is. It's a little inside digger at a YT guy.

  • great review blunt please tell me were you got it peace man.

  • What are your thoughts on the Master Hunter compared to the Bravo-1?

  • The MH is made of VG-1 laminate steel (stainless). If you watch my review of it, you'll see that I think it's a little over rated and over-priced. It dulls easy on the pine.

Plus the "rubbery" handle will not hold up in dirty, wet environments, IMO.

  • First, it's not a thumb-stud. Second, it weighed about a tenth of an ounce, and it was almost at the center of balance.

So, our comment is completely unfounded.

  • RC-5! RC-5!

     :)

  • been waiting for this..., good as ever,

    like the mods

  • Yet... another great vid...

  • lmfao he said I lost the fire starter ramp thing cant find it anywhere. That's some funny shit right there. I seriously want both the brovo 1 and 2 thanks for the review.

  • Hi,

What about patina? Why did you put it on and how? Probably due to my poor English I didn't quite get that part. Could you explain once again. Great review as always.

As I mentioned earlier you made me buy this one, it is on its way and I am looking forward to that.

    Thanks

  • The patina is a light layer of discoloration on the metal (a form of corrosion, actually). By "forcing" a patina you prevent the metal from getting the bad "red" rust later. All you do is cover the blade with yellow mustard and let it set for about 20-30 minutes. Keep an eye on it, if it appears to be getting dark spots, wash it off sooner.

If you need more help I can help you in PMs.

  • Thanks a lot.
