hi. i would just like to ask if do you know some tricks for the hp dm1z like shortcuts and other stuff like that? and on 3:55 how did you do that? and on the 4:10 was that a downloaded media thing or does hp dm1z have that already?
Got the DM1Z-3000. Don't forget the $30 coupon you can get online for HP Direct. Sound is great. Speed is just fine. Quiet as heck. 3 USB's. HDMI. 7200rpm hard drive. Web camera and sound is just fine. Upgraded to 8GB of RAM from Crucial for about $54. Stream Youtube and Netflix with no problems. No regrets. Sucky track pad though. Get one.
I'm about to order mine. Do you think it's smart to just go without virus protection and throw in a recovery disk just in case something did happen? I never use virus protection since I've switched over to windows 7, and I generally know how to prevent myself from getting them.
Nice review! After waiting for netbooks to get powerful enough to be worth buying I'm really considering this one. I was set on an Asus Eee like the 1215 series but I've heard too many negatives like the flimsy ac jack, flexible KB, etc so I finally started looking at other brands. Problem is it's not sold in Canada so I may have to go to the US to buy it.
@diufygisudfy Actually, that's just an error that happened shortly after we'd been capturing other footage and the screen resolution hadn't been readjusted. Our camera man was getting a closeup at the time, and that was the shot that he used. The time/date stamp works fine on the dm1z.
@advonspaandc5 Hey, good to know that you've been following my work at previous sites. Hope you liked the video review, and hopefully you'll subscribe to the channel to check out future video reviews and unboxings of products. We've also got more reviews and deals over at our main site as well, so make sure you check that site out too!
I appreciate your -- thorough review. I hope it's accurate, too.
Please compare the DM1Z's processing performance to budget ultraportables running CULV processors like the Toshiba T235-S1350 / Sony VPCY216 / Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 13", and so on. If its processing performance is within the range of last year's CULV CORE 2 DUO (or whatever it's called), then I might consider purchasing it. MIGHT.
If you search hp dm1z on youtube, you'll find a lot of videotest of HD video playback for this machine. That includes Flash (YouTube), HTML5 and mkv files. It should be able to play 1080P without frame drops.
Could you please update the drivers and check again? Second, according to those tests it also depends on the browser you use. Chrome performs better than Firefox or IE
We had all of the drivers updated before we tested it out, and we still ran into problems. Some tests you've seen may have used non-public release optimized versions of Flash 10.2 for Brazos powered machines, which we didn't use. The video issues may be fixed with future updates, but this was our experience with the machine. Additionally, we were using Hulu and YouTube within the video as an example of our experience, not the sole testing method.

Thank you for the review. If I understood correct that the only method for testing 1080p video playback was video streaming (Hulu and Youtube), as such those are flash based, so I suppose the frame skipping you experienced will be fixed with apu drivers and flash updates later. Though I would've expected external BR drive and .mkv file included for 1080p testing.

Sorry, ran out of space...
Regarding the missing keys you mentioned, I found this from another customer review:
FN+UP = Page Up
FN+DOWN = Page Down
FN+LEFT = HOME
FN+RIGHT = END
CTRL+FN+LEFT = Top of manuscript or list
CTRL+FN+RIGHT = Bottom of manuscript of list

Hi, in your review, the colors appear to be washed off. This is due to the recording and not on the hp dm1z itself, right?

at 4:50, why is part of the screen cut off?????? You can't see the time or the date! Is this actually what happens with the dm1z?

hows the mousepad?
beenthere888 11 months ago
@beenthere888 It sucks. Hardcore. You'll have to have an external mouse for usability.

Wait, the same Jeff Haynes that used to be at IGN? Man I used to watch your PS3 reviews.

@velfar
I heard it take a lot more effort (dunno how technically) to show 1080p from youtube or from a .mkv than from a blu ray disk....
