  • Cool video. Very informative.

  • i dont know what ur smoking but just get an hd theme, like the bf3 theme on ps3 then set it to 1080i....... now look at the theme...... now set it to 720p.......look at the screen........and now switch it back to 1080i....you will see that 1080i has alot more sharp feel to is and a better display when is comes to color and bitrate

  • ironic that this is in 380

  • @SAMAHAWK251 This is 240, NOT EVEN 380!! This guy time traveled from the 1990s!

  • This is so fake. The real story is that they couldn't manage to use 1080i, their computers were too slow. But have you EVER looked at REAL 1880i or even 720i video (Youtube does not support it)? The smoothness is amazing! I would advise to check out a real interlaced video and/or if you have an interlaced available camera ([resolution][60 fps/Hz]), record outside your window, and then o the same thing with progressive. You will see the smoothness of Interlaced

  • 1080i suks... U can really see the difference from 720p

  • only old crts use interlaced but most newer ones 1990's- are progressive

  • my friend has a sister who thinks 1080i is better cause she went to college so she told my friend that 1080i is better but i know 720p and 1080p is better and im 11 and im tryin to explain this to a 17 yo

  • not 240i, not bad notbad..

  • LOL he's talking about HD an its in 240p?

  • 240p we meet again

  • Stay with 720p keep interlaced signals off your set.

  • Comment removed

  • Do what I do, 720p for sport and action movies, 1080i for other movies.

  • @JohnWoo no 720p for everything

  • @XboxGamerKidd Fail. It's simple math really. Even if 1080i only has 540 lines it still has a higher resolution than 720p.

    1920 x 540 = 1 036 800

    1280 x 720 =921 600

  • That makes perfect sense thank you, especially the bit about the interlaced content on a progressive monitor.lol

  • say that 2 my boss, good luck

  • Makes the image look like poo, i see . . .

  • so 720p is the way to go

  • I have a question. I'm looking on buying a 32" TV for my xbox 360. Will there be a noticable difference in terms of quality 1080p vs 720p if I'm sitting about 6 feet away?

  • @craigyt1 1080p HD is apprently true HD. 720p which is the setting I play on because that is the maximum my TV can handle runs fine. There is a very small difference almost not even noticeable. People honestly just get 1080p for movies for the extra boost because they want to get the most out of their blue ray/dvd players. Most games still run on 720p max, they will work with 1080p but 720p is base for now. I can see 1080p becoming needed for games soon, just not now. In conclusion, no

  • @bamazudi

So as a long term investment 1080p is the way to go?

  • @craigyt1 Yes, because games are starting to utilize the use of 1080p. If you plan to use the TV for a long time, 1080p is the way to go.

  • LOL I HAVE SNOW FLAKES ON MY VIDEO WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

    XD

  • I've got a TV that only goes to 1080i. Should I get a Blu-ray player? How will the picture look?

  • @hpotter103 MUCH BETTER

  • @gil12gamepro1 Will it look better than the HD channels that I get over cable?

  • and now in 2011 we have the familiar digital noise of YouTube

  • yup i understand wat hes talking about 720p dominates 1080i

  • i hate shopping for technology I was within 15 seconds of leaving home to go buy the sony cybershot wx9 with 1080i.....i guess i will stick with the canon elph100, I had it before and it worked great...

  • 1. more pixels doesn't have to mean: more sharpness (chroma subsampling, bayering, sampleresolution, as well as MTF play an important role in sharpness as well)

    2. When you make a frame really sharp, the movement becomes less fluid.

If you compare 720p in let's say 25fps to 1080i in 50 fields per second, the two aren't that different. But if you're upping the framerate to 50 frames per second, it becomes a whole different ballgame. I'd say: shoot 5K in 48 frames per second (Hobbit...)

  • bullshit... More pixels = better resolution!

    1920x540 frame (1080i)

    = 1,036,800 pixels/sample

    1280x720 frame (720p)

    = 921,600 pixels / sample

  • @funkstidious more is not always better. for example more megapixels in a camera does not necessarily mean better image. it depends on the size of the pixels, lenses, etc. the same is with tv. and actually having more pixels can hinder the quality of the image especially with cable only outputting in 720p. if you have a bigger tv the image has to be stretched across more distance to fill the screen resulting in a lower quality picture. don't fall for the marketing hype that more is always better

  • Would 240p be above or below 480i?

  • I call this like sort of aneye exam for they had all four formatts on thescreen and I take a camcorder and record in the diffferent speeds and see if I can tell the differances

  • cheeeeeeeers mate

  • Yet, the resolution to this video is 240p.

  • Good video... the whole time I was wondering why do you make video by the river.

  • I want to see 1080/24p compared to 720/60p compared to 1080/30p

  • 1440p now

  • Once upon a time old man says to the viewed" screan ",but ir says nothing 2 Him -just what U see it;s not a true just illusion of pictures.let's enjoy real life best result 2 see differences!Thx a lot 4 real lesson on.

  • 4K FTW

  • 1080p vs 1080i. At P cams need to record and compress 24(or 25)x1920x1080 pixel per second. They can do that, but cant compress twice as many if I want to record at 50fps. So they just record the even rows in even frames and odd rows from odd frames, this way the Megapixel per sec compression wont change. Ofc u must deinterlace it properly (not by blending) to reach 1080p 50fs sharp progressive-like animation while moving sideway and without the annoying horizontal lines. There are algorythms...

  • Great video!

  • Ironic how 240p is filmed by hightech potato

  • its hard to bleive you can get such a goog picture woth 480i for this is a system that goes back to l941 then TVwas put on hold after the war it was alittle fuzzy black and white and ten inch sscreen was uge but I can not undwerstand can you get 1080p over the air or bable it is confusing maybee they say its better you will believe it

  • Quality wise, there is no reduction when using 1080i over 720p in my eyes.

One of my TVs can't display standard DVDs on my Blu ray player using 1080p or 1080p/24fps upscaling without continuous flickering being present. The 1080i setting is the total cure for this situation, you see it must be because this TV can't quite display standard DVDs correctly at that progressive resolution. However, the TV can display Blu ray Discs at that progressive resolution without flickering, it's very odd.

  • Well he's OK this chap, but I personally find 1080i to still be an excellent setting on a Blu ray player when watching standard DVDs. This is because standard DVDs are not progressive, and selecting 1080p or 1080p/24fps on a Blu ray player when watching standard DVDs on one of my HD Ready TVs causes a flickering issue. The 1080i setting completely resolves this issue, without any noticable picture quality reduction. That's the interesting situation with 1080i. I choose it over 720p for DVDs

  • 1080i than 720p in terms of quality... and the reason why the video is 240p is because the video is from 2007 ^_^

  • can u tell me how is dvd ? ill rate and subscribe

  • "interlaced garbage makes stuff look like poo"

    gotcha

  • no no no its

ur video is (negative ) -10i

    240p

    360p

    480i

    480p

    1080i

    720p

    1080p

  • @techguru54321

360p is higher quality than 480i

  • @Robrob2315 stop being a smart ass :P

  • @techguru54321 Lol my bad...

  • Thanks for the info!!!

  • wow very good

  • So... why is he talking in the middle of an ocean?

  • why 240? it takes the same amount of bandwidth as 288p

  • Was that stupid mic necessary?

  • 720i?

  • 240 HD FTW

  • @ThatsGoodKnowedge

I was just going to say! LOL

To low of a budget. ;)

You cant broadcast 1080p, but you can broadcast 240p. ;)

  • @ThatsGoodKnowedge

I was just going to say! LOL

To low of a budget. ;)

  • Its ironic that this video was uploaded in crappy 240 resolution

  • its a shame.. your talkin about HD but your video is only 240p.... ;(

  • @Kalec2011

How many times do I have to tell people that youtube videos were only 240p until 2008?

  • @Kalec2011 LMAO...give him some slack its from 2007 1080p cameras weren't on cellphones hahahaha

  • @Kalec2011 at least hes using 240p and not 240i

  • @Kalec2011 This video was posted in 2007... HD Youtube didn't start till 2009, so that explains your answer...

  • @Kalec2011 XD

  • @Kalec2011 THE IRONY!

  • How can you explain a 1080i HD in 240p .. ??

  • @XXXGarvitXXX

    By talking about resolutions..........

  • wow great vid

  • wait... what the hell happens when you watch 1080p on CRT monitor =_=;

  • @Eric858

CRT monitors probably don't support 1080p......they have health risks too.

  • @Usul573 HEALTH RISKS i always watch 1080p on the crt monitor on youtube, thought what I meant was, if crt monitors display INTERLACED, what's going on when it's displaying 1080P

  • @Eric858

CRT can do interlaced or progressive.

I have no idea what the size of the CRT monitor is and resolutions it supports, but it might not really support 1080p.

I think CRTs mostly suck compared to quality LCD or LED screens. I'm not a plasma fan.

    Four main types out there.

Just the thought of that ray being fired shooting radiation at you makes me never want to look at one again.

  • @usul5739 you're scaring me with radiation facts

well, anyways, mine's running 1280x 1024 resolution. and, huh i never new it has interlaced AND progressive capabilties....

the quality DOES seem to be better when playing in 1080p then the other resolutions, but also do you know if i'm running 1280 by 1024, it means the highest resolution that will be displayed is 1280 by 1024 or will pixels go smaller for 4:3 1080p?

  • @Eric858

Sorry It took a while to get back to you.

CRT is PROBABLY harmless they think, but don't break it or open it up, be careful.

I guess a 1280x1024 screen will play a 1280x720 video probably, but higher resolutions it won't do any better.

  • problem with 1080p is it kills performance and ruins fps games compared to 720p

1080p has good low speed motion quality but when at high speed action it makes really choppy frames which kills the lifelike motion

but the reason interlacing is overrated is cause its hard to process. but in my opinion if it was done correct you get 400% performance

    1080-540 60fps to 30fps and thats half , half .

surprisingly it takes more then 400% to process it on the xbox 360 so i stick to 720p

  • @ClutchCoin

The Xbox should only intelligently upscale to 1080p, it's not going to wreck the performance, games can run actually at 1080p on pc no problem without killing the performance.

  • interlacing helps you play a smooth video at an efficient framerate like 26fps at really high speed motions but end ups looking smudgy at low speed motions.

interlacing was meant to make transparent frames to make it possible to play HQ video. but its not really transparent cause you either get lines or low q smudging.

i assumed that if i played 1080i on my 360 i would get 540p performance.

instead i got really sluggish input lag cause of the way its processed

  • I'm watchin' 240p video that explain about 720p and 1080p. 2 of these are 'HD resolution' but this video is '3G resolution'. What is goin' on? This is a joke or not?

  • It's all clear to me now!!!

  • so im watching a 240p video talking about hd video ??

  • @jamiesissons

Please my people!!! Youtube only supported 240p video until 2008!!!

  • I'm glad I'm only borrowing this 1080i camera. I'm getting a canon HV40, which is tapes and 1080p, two personal upsides for me.

  • 240p, we meet again!

  • @Gamma4855 It's not often I see a genuine retard commenting. Welcome!

  • Wow thanks for the xplanation- much respect.

  • So this will fix the jaggedness I see on my screen all the time. Awesome

  • This guy's a dumb shit 1080i > 720p just because 1080i is technically only 540 lines at a time it's unnoticable to the human eye and also 1080i is much sharper than 720p

  • @J03ispr0 try watching sports on 1080i and then 720p...

    better results with 720p ofcourse

  • So on my 19 inch display I should switch to 720p because is much better display, than my 1080i. Also will that look better if I am playing black ops

  • LOL the irony!!

  • Thanks for the explanation!

  • 5:06 laughed so hard

    such a formal video

  • @themashypotato Me too, lmao. Was not expecting that.

  • thank you for the very informative video!!

  • I love how he is talking about HD and his video quality sucks haha

  • Thanks for the quick explanation!

  • 240p .. we meet again

  • Thank you very much I needed this!!! - great job!!!

  • Ha. You people are retards. All the "HD" Videos from 2008 and back, were made to Standard definition, like this one.

  • A 240p video.

  • we need our taxation to be progressive

  • 1080i is a PILE OF SHITTTTTTTT....DO NOT USE IT FOR SPORTS or fast paced recording

  • Thanks a lot. This is very helpful.

  • 1080i is best ever.Makes you proud to have a good TV. Hollywood type movies made for cinema look bad on TV, the motion and colors are not natural, but digital stuff looks incredible.720p looks good also but 1080i is best by far, especially motion fluidity

  • @Ojmartin940 there is 4096x2304 resolution ( 4k HD or quad HD) not sure if these are the right numbers but it exists I believe 4k HD is what is shown in theaters

  • @OJmartian940 there is 4096x2304 resolution you know ( 4k HD or quad HD)

  • Its a pedantic point, it's not the human eye that can't perceive the field changes in interlace. It's the human brain that can't perceive it.

  • This guy is awesome he got straight to the point

  • And if 480i is really only 240 lines at one time, does that mean that this video is 480i?

  • @bassboi666

    Youtube has......

    400x240

    640x360

    854x480

    1280x720

    1920x1080

  • Another question. Why is the picture in 480p usually smaller (with black bars at the side)? Is is just the camera, or is it because the lines are just smaller length-wise.

  • So wait... 720p is only 720 lines on the screen? Wouldn't that make it a smaller image than 1080i? Because in 1080i there IS room for 1080 lines, just only 540 of them are on the screen in each 60th of a second.

  • "...that makes the image look like POO!" lmao...

  • if 720p is better than 1080i why does the PS3 choose 1080i (in automatic) even when 720p is available??? I mean... when I go to screen setting and I put in automatic the PS3 puts 1080i! But why?

  • @allandmarques same happeso me

  • @allandmarques On ps3, 1080i DOES look better than 720p :) just because it's got virtual lines doesn't mean it looks bad....the "quality" he is talking about is when watching fast moving pictures(action scenes, football) 720p will not look as blurry. Still, 1080i looks nicer on the ps3....the text gets all blurry with 720p

  • I love when he describes picture as looking like poo :3

  • Very well explained!

  • 576p anyone? lol

  • Alchemist. It's Boolean. Not binary.

  • Your like smart and knows much about HD stuff and u upload a video in 240..

  • actually, interlaced makes the moment smoother, and it takes less space, since the human eye cannot perceive it. It's like your computer keyboard,it sends as much zeroes as the number of keys you have, but if you press one button, the zero corresponding to your key turns to one. This thing happens so many times per second that it is impossible to notice. So no need to store binary information for every key, to make things more difficult, to take more space. Same thing with interlaced, it's better

  • i like how this is a shitty 240p home video

  • WTF? 3-d tv's have 3000p!!! So 1080 isn't as high as you can go. This guys on meth

  • "1080p is as high as u can go"

    wasn't 1200p and 1600p monitors avalible 2007?

  • So basically 240p is equal to 480i...

Meaning this Youtube video is equal to Wii's quality if you're using a composite cable! You hear that all you composite - using Wii players?! You're playing Mario in 240p! Switch to Component cables! NAO!

Unless of course you're playing on an SD CRT with a native resolution of 480i.

THEN YOU NEED TO BUY A NEW TV!!!!!

  • @Ninjadude973 no don't swithc to components since you'll see jaggies in every single line due to the higher resolution.

wii graphics looks best with composite cables on a SD TV

  • @MrEvol94 I actually do agree with that.

  • @MrEvol94 But it also works with Gamecube games... which for some reason seem to be more anti -aliased than Wii... that's just sad. But anyway most Gamecube Games look good in 480p, along with the newer Wii games.

  • nice vid, although i wouldn't agree with the "rank positions" , i'm pretty sure 1080i is higher than 720p. with programs like sony vegas (and many others) u can convert 1080i to 1080p and the quality is definitely higher than 720p. my cam shoots 1080i (60) which can be watched without any problem on full HD TVs , the problem is that my laptop can't handle it, so that's y i convert my vids to 1080p (30fps) , so basicly i'm not losing any quality comparing to cams that shoot directly 1080p (30) :)

  • But i heard the 720p is better than 1080p? is that TRUE

  • @randomguy21295 no it's not, it goes like this: 1080p > 720p > 1080i. Higher number with the same letter is always better.

  • great video, i have learnt a lot from this one cheers :-)

  • Comment removed

  • i agreed !

  • BITCH I HAVE 4K VIDEO !

  • Wait why can't you broadcast 1080p???

  • @Crowz

Because our wonderful FCC (in this case the ATSC) failed to set a standard for doing so. That's the only reason.

Meanwhile, they allowed things that should never exist in a modern system, like interlacing and the idiotic 29.97 FPS frame rate.

They didn't even define what "HD" means; our "advanced" TV standard is a mess of 18 different picture formats, with no quality or even resolution requirement for "HD".

  • lol this video is in 240p

  • @MrGamingUnleashed read the most liked post ...

  • DATA BUNDLE ABSORBED.

    Thank you very much indeed.

  • screw 1080p. 4320p is on its way.

  • Thank you SOOO much. I just bought a new HD TV and it has the option to set the screen to 720p or 1080i and I was confused on which setting to keep it on. I could not tell the difference. I'll stick to 720 Progressive! Thanks!

  • funny this is in 240p:)

  • @HammerEditorPro well there is 8000p they call it 8kp

  • @slice0001 Just 8k, they don't put a p on the end.

  • @Ciaran500 ok

  • so what does 1080/30p mean?

  • @HammerEditorPro no 8000p is the best

  • Hey I have that shirt. (random fact of the day)

  • @That1GuysAccount Nice comment it made me laugh :D

  • yes you are talking about hd and you have got 240p

  • How do I have 114 likes but not on top comments? lol

  • 1080p > 1080i > 720p

  • And I'm watching

that video at 240p. I got it.

  • I like how this video about high quality videos is low ass quality

  • so am watching a 240p video talking about 720p and 1080p on a 720p laptop using a 1080p TV ...... INCEPTION :O

  • @sirusthevirus004 720p and 1080i !

  • @sirusthevirus004 I saw this same lame joke in another video. But though I should bash you and not him since he had more thumbs up.

  • @sirusthevirus004 hey dumbass you missed the i

  • @badgerkillerJR hey fucktard..nobody cares !

  • @sirusthevirus004 you call me a tard when you cant even tell the difference between i and p? Fail. Im not even sure you know what inception means

  • @sirusthevirus004 no comeback? yeah thats wat i thought

  • @badgerkillerJR is ur life based on youtube comments...

  • @sirusthevirus004 wat kinda question is dat?

  • lol. talking about HD quality and upload the video as 240p
