We are so fortunate. After being forced for 40 years to listen to hirsute male finalists battering undefended pianos into submission, we now have Mrs. Avdeeva. What a mercy. Her musicality is so massively beyond that of most participants, it must have shamed the male chauvinist judges so much that they let one, count them, just one lady be recognized for what is obvious to nearly all experienced pianists. Godspeed Yulianna !

[Her handling of these Mazurkas shows] She definitely has a musical bent rather than technical. Which is actually a good thing, especially when Chopin's music is involved. Her performance of Sonata #2 and Etude 10 Op. 10 showed she has at least adequate technique to pull it off.
