Call me crazy, but I think I like the sound of Josh Groban's voice better in this rough cut than in the final version. His pronunciation isn't very spot-on, though, so they didn't keep this one. I would like to hear the rough cut in its entirety.

It's a shame that Josh mispronounced a few words and no-one corrected him before the final release of this song: "sal" instead of "sol", "exige" instead of "existe". Other than that, we could not ask for a better match: Josh Groban and Banda Dida' + Carlinhos Brown.

@Elvisfan2k I wasn't doubting you! I was just surprised. Usually Josh Groban's pronunciation is spot-on. But then, Portuguese is considerably more difficult than Spanish and Italian.

@Elvisfan2k Really? I thought that "sao" was the correct way to pronounce "sol" in Portuguese. In this early version of the vocal track, he says "sol (like in Spanish)" and instead of saying "ate durar", he says "atanturar" or something. Also, he doesn't say "esh-kla-reh-see" like in the final; he says "ess-kla-reh-see". Which version is closer to the correct pronunciation?

@TorturedXeno the correct way to pronounce "Sol" is like "saw" (past of see). Esclarecer is little bit harder to explain. The "e" of "es" has not a strong sound like the e in "melt" but the sound of the a in "day". The s of "es" is pronounced like "ess". The only thing that is a big mistake is when he sings: "Você existe em mim". He always put a "h" before existe, so it sounds like the h of "hospital" making the word sound like "resiste" in portuguese. But "resiste" in port. is "resist" in eng.

@TorturedXeno Good catch. The "e" of "espero" is not pronounced "ish" but, again, like the "a" in "day". About his pronunciation overall... it's just OK. Portuguese is really difficult for english and german speakers to learn. Example: in english, a verb has only a few variations. In portuguese, each verb has 72 variations. e.g.: I love, You love, He/She loves, We love, You love, They love. In portuguese it is: Eu amo, Tu amas, Ele/Ela ama, Nós amamos, Vós amais, Eles amam. Josh is forgiven!!

@cbanogueira Yes, it is the same way in Spanish. There are about 96 ways to conjugate a single verb. For instance, "amar" would be "amo, amamos, amas, amáis, ama, aman" just for the present-tense, and then you'd have the past tense, future tense, compound tenses, etc. I would probably have a much harder time pronouncing Portuguese than actually learning the grammar. If Josh can't get it perfect, I guess there's no hope for the rest of us Americans. XD

@cbanogueira Well, it actually depends on which Portuguese you are talking about. Cariocas and Portuguese people would pronounce that "e" in "espero" just like Josh did. I don't think I've ever heard an American speaking my own language so perfect and beautifully!
