I have been living with my 3-lead ICD for 2 years now (am 48yo) and actually forget it's there for most of the time. I can occasionally feel it pacing me and have been defibrillated 5 times since it was implanted but I am so grateful that I have it. I would not be here today without it. It's like having my own private paramedic team on board 24/7. To think of not having it is terrifying.
I wonder why Dr. Leslie Saxon is not identified anywhere on this page. She's the Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine at USC Keck School of Medicine. What an omission! She's also a thought leader and a great proponent of patient access to data collected via remote monitoring. And to Dr. Saxon, thank you for not saying that the ICD "is the guardian angel on our shoulder."
