A few items make this LeMans particularly rare. The fact it is a GT model, the 4 speed, and the rear half landau top which was more commonly found on the Luxury LeMans and after '75 the Grand LeMans. Exceptionally clean and accurately detailed throughout. Apparently the front seat was reupholstered because the pattern doesn't match the rear seats which are original.
@68prescott I appreciate the detailed information you've given! It's always nice to have verification for a particular model. I think reupholstered front seats are very common...especially when you consider rear seats may have little use..it's the front seats that get the brunt of wear and tear. Thanks! :) Jack
your camera work is making me feel sick. less movement next time please. I had a 74 as well but with the window louvers, not like this with the vinyl top, 400 blue block American engine. Man I wish I still owned that car...
@Xtremecookiesncream You must understand that I am videoing these cars in a dynamic environment, jockeying with other spectators for a chance to video. I've worked on decreasing camera swings, but I don't want to "hog" the stage while others must wait on me. Thanks! :) Jack
I have the exact same car/ model. My 74 GT is original GM Aquamarine blue with white racing stripes, chocolate chip interior with buckets from a 74 sport. I don't have the in-dash tach but have the same 4-speed trannie, naca hood scoops, original rally II wheels with trim rings and all original trunk hardware to include spare mount and bumper jack. I have never seen another one of these outside of the net and believe this car was recently sold?
@asdmocasystemscom That's great! This isn't my car, but I decided to video it at a recent show. I can't remember seeing such a car before this one. I had seen that body style, but not as a GT! Sorry, I don't know the history of this car. Thanks! :) Jack
WOW, the '74 LeMans is one of my favourite cars of all time, Jack! I have a very rare original press publicity picture of the GT (I collect sales brochures, original publicity pictures & things like that) so I knew there was a 'GT' trim level for this car but I've never actually seen one! it's a very beautiful car, no wonder it won the best in class trophy, it'll surely win many more! Great find, Jack :D
@drewerz01 Hey, Mike! Glad to hear you have a collection of brochures...I have one too, but not very well organized...one of those things that I'll eventually attend to! This was a new show for me, and I was very interested in this car...it's the first time I ever remember seeing one. Thanks! :) Jack
Jack, What a rare car. I'm not sure about the 1 of 12 or 1 of16, unless the owner was qualifying it with the specific options and color combination on this car. It appears extremely original, even has the correct battery with the "Delco eye", that yellow cap on the right had a tube that reacted to the acid in the battery and would glow green when properly charged. The wheels are 'Rally II" wheels - no chrome trim rings, first seen on the '69 GTO Judge. Notice the 5MPH front and rear bumper.
@jferg7159 Hey, Joe! It is really nice to see an original car...the temptation is great to use non-original parts, especially with such mundane things as batteries. The owner evidently made a concerted effort to maintain originality...and that's an extra bonus on a rare car! Thanks! :) Jack
From what I can remember, the GT was more-or-less a performance package.. It consisted of the special hood, and those stripes.. The 4-speed really sets the car on fire though!!! I'd say it's probably worth what they're asking; looks to have had a top-notch restoration!
@Sarcasticscum Hey, Nathan! Yeah, I believe the high performance aspect of GT is correct...before they days when it was just a cosmetic package. For such a rare car, I agree about the price! Thanks! :) Jack
Nice looking car. The 70s (in my opinion) weren't the best time for GM in terms of style and performance. With emissions catching American car companies off guard, they spent more money and time on styling than they did on performance. Some of them looked awesome, while others just looked awful! For the cars of GM, it's a little of both. Some looked very nice whilst others looked ugly as hell.
@Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! Yeah...there was "anti-racing" provisions at all the car companies, I believe..and the engineers were stressed out trying to control emissions by tinkering with carburetors. Engine management was in its infancy...and mistakes would definitely be made! I'll admit that styling was much less spectacular at this point...but the companies chugged along! Thanks! :) Jack
@raconter1 So I've heard. At least they didn't give up and hand the reigns to the Japanese or the Germans. They made ok cars at that point, but for American driving, I'd still go for American cars.
@gene978 Hey, Gene! I think so too, considering the rarity and condition! I'm thinking that aqua car is a full sized 63 or 64 Chevy from what I can see in the video.....certainly a great car too! Thanks! :) Jack
This is a nice little car, and thanks much for taking the time to document it. Very much appreciated.

@raconter1 "Anti-Racing" provisions? Was racing banned in the USA? Why would they do that?
