Words cannot describe how much this theme means to me. I replayed just about every night from Novemebr 2010-January 2011, and hearing it right now autimatically takes me back to last year and makes me want to re-live every moment, which I will never do, due to how all the anger & frustration I had during that time. I just love this theme and movie.
Leonard Rosenman is one of my favorite composers of all time! His music is hauntingly beautiful, yet it carries a childlike innocence! His themes speak James Dean's life story!
I love this movie. I watched it 3 times today. I'm really surprised this score wasn't nominated for an oscar or something. It's incredible. I swear when I watched the movie I left the title screen on (it is a DVD) because they were playing the theme to it. I just listened to it for about an hour (but then when I turned it off the image was burned into my TV. Oh well, it was worth it) I wish they had this on iTunes. :)
@RogueRotting360 It is STILL on youtube. Maybe by another name. Look for the image of him playing the piano in this huge list of youtube tributes. A jazz guy posted it. :)
@sacpelicancom I ADORE this bittersweet music. It is so much late 40s and 50s romantic classical music. For similar genre music, listen to Ned Rorem's Symphony #3 (awesome), which has a New York City at night and on foggy days motifs. And then David Diamon 4th Symphony. And also Leonard Bernstein's "On the Waterfront" suite from the film. :)
Forgot to say thanks so much, openring, for uploading these Rosenman performances, I would have loved so much to have been there myself but couldn't, sadly.

Great performance, but who the hell deleted the 'Leonard Rosenman playing Rebel without a Cause on the piano' video? Man that was a gem.

@RogueRotting360 It's still there. Just look up Rebel Without a cause music and it's there

I love Leonard Rosenman's music. Thank you so much for this and the "East of Eden" score, too.

One of the great Hollywood scores, in my opinion, and ahead of it's time.
