No one can sing the National Anthem like Wayne. I get the goosebumps every time, and it was even more exciting at the Hawks game with the "Roar" behind it.
baseball crowds are much more subdued....if this were the staidum..the place would have been rocking...oh i forgot...can't get too loud at wrigley...it might fall down LOl..
Anyone see yesterday when he sang the anthem & his microphone went dead? All we heard on TV was Gary Pressy playing the organ, but no vocal. That was funny!
He is the best - gives me goose bumps everytime. Was this the game where the eagle flew off the score board and the Iraq war vet thew the first pitch? Memorial day 07?
Very moving. I remember the vet (missing both legs and an arm) walking out to the pitchers mound, kissing the ground and firing a strike right down the middle. The crowd went nuts. It was great.

The only way you'll see me at that run down stadium is if a real team like the Cardinals, White Sox , or Blackhawks are playing there.........Celebrating 100 years of futillity......and still the fans say"wait till next year....wonder who's fault it'll be this year? a goat, an innocent fan? how about the team, they we're just born to be "the lovable losers"
FYI I would have never looked at this video if it was titled "Wayne Messmer singing the anthem at Wrigley Field" I miss Wayne singing in the stadium....nothing like it, and nobody can duplicate it.......So,I'll just leave it at this ....Wrigley Field still sucks, but not nearly as much as the Cubs............
Harry Caray has been honorably recognized with the unveiling of a statue outside Wrigley Field in April, 1999 for his enthusiastic & entertaining singing of the 7th inning stretch, I wonder if someday, will Wayne Messmer also be so honorably recognized for his renditions of the Nat'l Anthem?
New drainage, old drainage, the cubs will fulfill 100 years without a world championship, proving forever that the thing sitting on addison and clark is hopeless....
Right now Wrigley Field is being torn up & re-done for a new drainage system. Wonder if Mr. Messmer might have come to Wrigley to sing the anthem, before the crews got started??? LOL
Bring the roar back to the UC. The only roaring you can hear at Wrigley is from the bellies of all the drunk loser fans who half the time are more worried about who's watching them talking on their cell phones, and the roar of the crumbling building....
I've seen plenty of people talking on their cell phones at White Sox, Cardinals, Brewers, Rays, and other team in professional sports for that matter all the time!
I've also seen plenty of drunk asses at football (Bears), basketball (Bulls), White Sox, and hockey (Hawks) games too!
If its such a crappy stadium, then why does it have 40,000 people in attendance every single game?! Must be doing something right!
Also, want to give Wayne Messmer a lot of credit on the superb job he does in singing the anthem...."what a great voice he has"!! He also does a great job in singing "America, The Beautiful"...I have a few recordings of him singing that along with Gary Pressy's talent at the organ, particularly on Sept. 27, 2001, the pregame ceremonies after the terrorist attacks, "I've got it all here"!!
I can remember as young kid when Jack Kearney used to play the National Anthem at Wrigley, back in the late 60s til 1970.....I thought his rendition was awesome. I've got a copy of Gary Pressy's CD, which includes the Star Spangled Banner, right off the bat. That one is just "organ only", no voice accompaniment. Sounds really good, but it's played quite faster than what you hear at Wrigley. Wish sometime Gary would play the anthem (without the singing), nice & slow.
The organist playing the music during the singing of "The Star-Spangled Banner" is heard in the background...I think that's how Wayne Messmer wanted it.
thats how he did it for years for the blackhawks, with the big organ. although the crowd got so loud every time you could barely hear the largest pipe organ ever made! Wayne Messmer is awesome. its too bad he sings for that......that............horrible baseball team.
Hes the best at this song. Ive heard some that can break glass and you cant wait till their done. Women are terrible at this song.

Wrigley is a classic, but nevertheless the amenities and practicality sucks.

This is how its supposed to be sung. The right words, the right tune, no pointless or needless trilling of the notes. Sing on Wayne, sing on!
